I still think there's a very real chance Romo doesn't wants to resign with the team.

I have the same feeling.

Also I found it interesting that he wore an nfl hat during alot of his locker room interviews during the season.

If I were him I'd play out this season and try to test the market.

IMO cowboy fans deserve a real "bum" out there at QB for a while to remind em what bad quarterback play really looks like.

There has been several articles and/or posts about it. I don't know if it's true or not. My point is that if he thinks he deserves that kind of money and is playing hardball, I let him walk. If he has a great year and proves he is worth it, then Dallas benefits from that. If he crashes and burns again with all that money on the line, then I'm glad to be done with him and extremely happy I didn't give him that extension. Meanwhile I would draft a QB this year and plan on looking for another one next year in free agency or via a trade after Romo leaves.
Those articles are much like your guess, all speculations, nothing from Romo's camp stating that they are looking for Flacco's money. All the posts on here are same, speaking out of their but you want to use those speculations to support your speculation? lol.

What QB would you draft this year and what QB would you draft next year?

What good deal would that be? Having the oline consistently getting ignored? The Fans treating him like crap? Maybe it's the getting blamed for everything. Yeah, pretty awesome deal he's got. :laugh2:

If he was playing in Cleveland no one would care about a QB with one playoff win.

How's that if he is a FA after this season? what is his cap hit this season if he plays out contract and what is his cap hit if we released him?

From what I read, when Romo restructured his deal in Sept of 2011 and converted 9m of salary into a signing bonus, the Cowboys added 3 voidable years onto the deal to spread out the cap hit into 2014-16. If Romo remains on the team through 2013 the last 3 years void. If he is traded or cut before then, the 3 years remain in tact and the remaining dead money would accelerate to 2013 as a lump sum. The number is hard to pin down, but it would be a substantial cap hit. Something like 25m. 11.5m in remaining guaranteed salary + 13.5m in remaining cap pro-rations).

If he becomes a FA after 2013, it appears that there will be 8.5m in dead money for 2014.

Romo is not a free agent at the end of the season, that is what everybody is saying. Romo has voidable years on his deal that he can void to become a free agent.

If we try to franchise him, he gets more than just the regular tender because of those voidable years. One of the beat writers was talking about this a week or two ago and said to franchise Romo after this season would be in the $25 to $30 million range.

This is way too prohibative, so the beat writer basically said that Dallas either extends Romo or lets him walk because we cant afford to franchise him and give new deals to Dez, Lee, ect...

I still don't know why everyone thinks Romo needs to be extended. Let him play out his contract and then franchise him after that if you absolutely need too. Dallas should be looking to replace him anyway and next year looks like great year to do that in draft.

I agree 100%.

It means getting rid of the aging veterans who have been apart of the "band" for long stretches of the Romo/Garrett era. The veteran "core group". I'm a believer in that theory IF we miss the playoffs this upcoming season, as I believe most franchises would go about it if they were in the middle of a 4 year playoff drought. You cut the fat, get young and build for the future. It's exactly what teams like the Niners and Seahawks did the past couple seasons before they found success, and business as usual in the NFL. You don't continue to hold on to an agingh core group of guys if they continue to lose, things need to be shaken up and the page needs to be turned.

But you're right that we have a strong group of young players, they should make for a fantastic core in a rebuilding effort.

I agree with your opinion on the topic. There are some good young players to build around. I think Jerry has stuck with the aging core a little too long and it is time to make these young guys the core players to build around.

I would absolutely trade Romo to the Cardinals for two #1's and a #2 (and they could absolutely get that). Yes, he is a franchise quarterback, but this team is going to choke to death if doesn't build get him to something significantly cap friendly for the next few years.

I would draft Warmack (even trade down from Arizona's #7), Richardson, Cyprien, Terron Armstead and the best available QB in the 3rd.

Then I'd ride into 2013 with a dominant defense, young but promising offensive line and try and "Trent Dilfer" a season with Kyle Orton.

Then, with two #1's in tow in a killer QB 2014 Draft, I'd go after the best QB there is. And, without Romo's huge contract there is room to re-sign Bryant, Carter, Lee, etc.

They would be lucky to get a #2. If they could, they should take it and run.

Please let this be true! Then we can move on from him and bring in someone who can lead this team back to the playoffs and actually win a few post season games!

We need to dump the season and let the chips fall... Orton should be able to win at least 1 game next season. A 1x15 season should get us close to a No 1 pick next year and then Lovie Smith can get us Johnny Football for the next evolution of players....

You think he's treated badly here? He is viewed a lot worse around the league.
Right...because he plays here. If he didn't, there's no reason why he wouldn't be treated like a Matt Ryan who also only has one playoff Win. That's exactly my point.

I said this same thing last year and people said I was nuts. Over the second half of the season, he mostly stopped wearing Cowboys gear and wore generic NFL Shield gear instead. Seemed pretty telling to me that it was a sign he was done with this team or at least highly frustrated.

He might not be far off. While Romo would likely be one of, if not the, highest paid player in the league if he was just a free agent, he only has one year left on his contract. It would be hard for a team to give up one or two 1sts for a guy who could bail the very next season. If he had more years on his contract, teams would be jumping to get to the phones, but not with only one year left on his contract.

And where would he go that would have even close to the cupporting cast on offense he has here?

NYJ where he can throw to Jeremy Kerley and Clyde Gates?

Arizona where he'd be exposed to the worst OL in the league?

Cleveland with Josh Gordon and Greg Little?

JAX? OAK? BUF?

Because those are the teams looking for a QB...

There are a lot of worse places to play QB than Dallas where he has a top 5 WR, another top 10-15 WR, a HOF TE and a young stud LT to protect his blindside

I'm sure he can find another team where the oline has him running for his life every snap and he has to tell at least one receiver where to line up. He'd get by I'm sure. :laugh2:

It was the "lucky to get a 2nd" rounder part.

Also, I think any trade would assume an extension. You're right, a team would not make that trade for a rental unless it was on the cheap.

Cleveland has a good oline and a ton of money and a great young RB. But...yuck...playing in Cleveland is probably not a QBs dream destination. Bad weather and another tough division. I do think upgrading WRs can be done. But still. I doubt Romo wants to play there.
Minnesota would be more like it.

Add a couple of WRs and put Romo in the mix...and boom. That is a decent team.
