It was the "lucky to get a 2nd" rounder part.

Also, I think any trade would assume an extension. You're right, a team would not make that trade for a rental unless it was on the cheap.
Pretty much. If Romo agreed to sign an extension on the spot with a new team, sure. What are the odds of that though?

I said this same thing last year and people said I was nuts. Over the second half of the season, he mostly stopped wearing Cowboys gear and wore generic NFL Shield gear instead. Seemed pretty telling to me that it was a sign he was done with this team or at least highly frustrated.

And this is how silly rumors are born. :laugh2:

I never has to be on the on-the-spot. But the team has to have the money and has to make it know to the player's agent the ballpark figures to start with. There would have to be assurances from both parties, or that trade would not happen.

Your missing the point. Your implying that Romo is frustrated with this team, hence the reason Romo is wearing generic NFL gear.

You can stop with this crazy talk, people who are around the facility all the time like Eatman & Broaddus are confident a contract extension for Romo is coming soon, probably this week.

Dallas cannot trade or release Romo because of the cap hit. It would be huge. They would have to cut 5-6 players just to get under the cap. And that would wreck next year's cap as well. We can come up this or that scenario, but it's not happening. Tony has helped the team out contract and cap wise numerous times since he has been the QB and there is no reason to believe he has suddenly turned on the team. Something will get done, probably more guaranteed money like Brady as opposed to top yearly money like Flacco.

If he wants Flacco money, then I draft a QB and tell him he has one more year as a Cowboy to convince some other team to give it to him. Results are what earn that money, not personal stats alone. I'd get my last year out of him and wish him good luck.

This I would not do. If we decide that he want's too much money, then it's unwise to let him play out his contract and leave. We end up paying 17 Million, waste another year and end up in a position where we get nothing for Romo. If we come to that conclusion, the wise thing to do, IMO, is to trade him now while we can get something for him. If we trade him, even at 17 Million, we could get a 1st round pick at a minimum and have cap space to boot. That, IMO, is the way we should work it if that's the conclusion we come to.

I would absolutely trade Romo to the Cardinals for two #1's and a #2 (and they could absolutely get that). Yes, he is a franchise quarterback, but this team is going to choke to death if doesn't build get him to something significantly cap friendly for the next few years.

I would draft Warmack (even trade down from Arizona's #7), Richardson, Cyprien, Terron Armstead and the best available QB in the 3rd.

Then I'd ride into 2013 with a dominant defense, young but promising offensive line and try and "Trent Dilfer" a season with Kyle Orton.

Then, with two #1's in tow in a killer QB 2014 Draft, I'd go after the best QB there is. And, without Romo's huge contract there is room to re-sign Bryant, Carter, Lee, etc.

I would go one better. I would trade Romo and get what I could, then I would trade Spencer and get more high picks. I would clear all of that cap space and I would try like the devil to get Clowney and a QB next year.

Then why not trade Ware and Witten while we're at it?

Dallas would save $$ in either scenario. Romo's Salary would be paid by another team (or not at all if released). The cap hit for the pro-rated signing bonus would apply to this year, yes. But that figure is already accounted for in the Cowboys current cap situation. This is Romo's last year under contract, so there is no acceleration of his old SB. It's ALL on this year, hence why getting a new deal done is so important.

I still think there's a very real chance Romo doesn't wants to resign with the team.

I wouldn't if I were him

who wants to work for anyone that has no sense of direction, horrible management skills, refuses to provide the tools needed to succeed, and indirectly (and sometimes directly) is the cause of getting crapped on on a regular basis for no reason?

There are 3 voidable years on his contract. Romo re-did his contract numerous times and has 5.5m in pro-rated money this year and at least 8m left after this year. And some of his 11.5m salary this year may be guaranteed, but I can't confirm this yet. If he is on the roster thru 2013, the last 3 years void and the pro-rated money left accelerates to 2014. So franchising him would cost at least 19m + 8m= 27m, cap wise.

You know, a team that could really benefit from Romo, IMO, and has the cap and picks to probably work a deal would be the Bucs. They need a QB, they have a lot of talent on that team and with a decent QB, they could contend for the playoffs pretty easily IMO. They have over 30 Million in cap space this year.

They in no way think they need a QB.

I agree that he'd be an upgrade, but they feel they have a franchise guy in Freeman.
Not much diff on paper between Freeman and Flacco.

Have to admit, on paper, Freeman and Flacco are clones.

I don't think so. I think Freeman has a longer windup and that's kinda saying something.

Maybe so.
Flacco's progress has been better too.

No way the Bucs would trade Freeman for Romo. He's 25, fits that vertical passing game, and still presents a good deal of upside. They've gotten younger and turned over the roster, bringing in Romo goes against Schiano's plan.

No one supports Tony as much as me, but after that mess of a season, he should be flexible.
