OC Schottenheimer update on Trey Lance

Trey wasn't going to bench a 40M QB. He wasn't brought in to be the starter last year or this year but in 2025. Your GM was looking ahead.

Calm down people! First, who cares if the 49ers spent 3 first round picks for Lance? The Cowboys didn't - they spent a 4th round pick. The player should be treated as such.

Second, all of you who are piling on about Lance looking like garbage in TC right now...were you also freaking out in 2016 when another 4th rounder, Dak Prescott, was looking like garbage in TC practice before Romo got hurt?

Just take it down a notch and let's see what the kid does in the preseason. Then if he stinks, he stinks. Then you can whine and cry all you want.

1990 they forfeited the 1st overall pick. Since they took Walsh in the 1989 supplemental draft.
1991 they trade up with NE who had the #1 overall pick to take Maryland.

They wanted Rocket Ismail of Notre Dame but he decided that the money was too good in Canada and said No to the NFL draft. This really screwed the Cowboys as he would have been our pick. Maryland was kind of a consolation prize.

Who gives up a 4th round pick + $5M per yr salary to upgrade an emergency QB spot?

The front office hopes for the #3 pick in the 2021 draft to show some potential and upside to move up from Dak. If Trey Lance has a strong pre-season, Dak is not getting an extension in Dallas.

A 4th round pick is a lottery ticket. They traded back in the first and got an extra 3rd. Most 4th round picks don’t make it. I guess the way the Cowboys do business the 5 million dollar cap charge is the biggest issue. Again if Dak, Rush, and Lance leave next season, the Cowboys will get a replacement through the draft and half the board will be happy.

Not true.

Dak was not looking like garbage his rookie year in training camp. He was definitely performing much better than Lance has shown. Dak tore it up during preseason, then continued it into a franchise rookie record regular season.
