umm...it's the same thing on either site. a base RSS feed that allows you to show off your short attention span to the world and ensure we all know where you're eating.

while you can feed one to the other, it's the same thing in the end except twitter is JUST what you're eating. facebook allows me to see pics and get spammed by people wanting me to see their show.
Again, its all in how you use it. I don't get caught up in all that gibberish. Facebook and Twitter both have functions much like this site where you can either delete or block comments from people that you don't want to hear from, and just focus on the stuff that really matters to you. I understand however that it still isn't for everyone.

Twitter is a friend/companion to those who have no lives.
It is a excellent resource for elderly people. And out of work Gen Xers and Gen Yers.

If you're in the business, I understand, but I see it as just a huge waste of time. Just my opinion.

How in the world did people make it before the Internet? haha.

Now, you can get updates on things as they happen without having to log onto the internet or wait on any of the other news sources, which saves time.

For example, I knew of the Japan earthquakes and tsunamis, the Alabama tornadoes, and the killing of OBL and subsequent press conference as quickly as most on the planet just by looking down on my phone. Not too shabby if you ask me.

How would your life have changed if you didn't find out about OBL until Monday, .. or even Tuesday?

Not at all.

Same with the tornadoes, or Japan earthquake.

Not at all.

That is all Aikmaniac is saying I think.

You have tied yourself to something very tightly that you don't actually even need.

If I have a choice between getting information and not getting information I will choose the former.

I dont care that that its a new thing and it sounds like its supposed to be for girls

You don't need the Zone either, but you come here quite a bit to get your Cowboys news...and discuss the latest goings ons.

What does it matter that he could've waited two days to find out about OBL through traditional news outlets. We don't live in that era anymore. Now news comes in a matter of seconds instead of days and the more tools that can deliver it, the better.

For regular users, I don't find twitter super useful unless you have a large circle of friends to socialize with, but I think it's a great business tool. Keeping up with artists and different media outlets allows me to get quite a bit of news fairly quickly.

Yes I do need the Zone! :laugh2:

Just kidding.

But seriously, checking the Zone occasionally, and carrying Twitter in your pocket with you at all times is two very different things.

There are a lot of guys here on the Zone that aren't the least bit interested in Twitter or FaceBook.

It's two different animals.

If my children/grandchildren, or my wife need my help right away, I want to know that as soon as possible, ... other than that I don't need to know anything immediately.

But remember, you are talking with someone who hasn't had his cell phone for a full year yet. :laugh2:

I actually do carry the Zone in my pocket. I can access it from my phone and I bet there are quite a few who do, as well.

It's all about what you're into. I'm into FB, because I can keep up with fam who live in different cities. I like twitter to keep up with certain media outlets. It saves time when gathering stuff to post here.

As opposed to our fore fathers who googled "Cowboys free agent rumors" and sifted through the results the old fashioned way.

You don't know that. Maybe it has no relevance to you, but to others who may have family in Alabama, or friends in Japan, or friends and family in the military, it is important to know what's going on in the world, and yes knowing about it quicker can change your life. If I happened to be in Japan and a Tsunami was on the way, you better believe I'd wanna know asap. It wouldn't do me a bit of good to wait and read about it in the newspapers.

It seems that you are just making fun about something that you don't fully understand. And no, I have not "tied myself to something very tightly that I don't actually even need." I am not on twitter or facebook all day. But getting news updates is as simple as reading a text message. This concept may be hard to understand for someone like yourself, who has only had a cell phone for less than a year. More power to you if you choose to get your news through traditional outlets at a slower rate than everyone else. I just choose to know whats going on in real time, and the technology available makes it very easy to do so.

I think you're going to extremes here. Obviously, the advancement of technology has forced individuals to keep up with the latest and greatest gadgets and resources. And the example about tragedies, disasters, etc. may not have been a good one to debate whether or not there is a need to receive information faster.

My point is that it's amazing that my parents and grandparents made it without these things.

And I agree with tupperware...everyone wants instant gratification. Not saying that's good or bad, it's just how it is.

I will tell you that through my job and different experiences I have had, the instant information has turned laymens into "experts" on a variety of topics.

In all seriousness though, I don't have one problem with the technology. It's a bit cryptic at times but why would I have a problem with it? It doesn't really affect me in any way not to use it or use it sparingly.

I just think that a side affect of it could be making people dependent on receiving news and information as it happens, relative to the quick updates you get on the internet as it is. I guess it's not a problem but I think in general, people have come to depend on technology in a lot of ways and it's funny to think that should the internet, or heck, even certain social communities of the internet were to disappear tomorrow, how far back it would set some people.
