If I happened to be in Japan and a Tsunami was on the way, you better believe I'd wanna know asap. It wouldn't do me a bit of good to wait and read about it in the newspapers.

I guess the unfortunate people killed in Japan didn't have twitter. ;)

More power to you if you choose to get your news through traditional outlets at a slower rate than everyone else. I just choose to know whats going on in real time, and the technology available makes it very easy to do so.

I happened to see the message alert scroll across the TV screen Sunday night that the President was going to make an announcement. So my wife and I sat up until 1:00 watching.

Many other people that I have spoken with were already in bed Sunday evening and didn't find out until Monday when they got up.

It didn't change a thing if you found out Sunday night or Monday morning.
That is the way it is with most things. Not all I guess, but most.

I'll find out when I find out, and that will be good enough for me.

As opposed to our fore fathers who googled "Cowboys free agent rumors" and sifted through the results the old fashioned way.

Or waited for the Dallas Cowboys Weekly to come each Friday, ... and actually lived to tell about it. ;)

We survived.

I think you're going to extremes here. Obviously, the advancement of technology has forced individuals to keep up with the latest and greatest gadgets and resources. And the example about tragedies, disasters, etc. may not have been a good one to debate whether or not there is a need to receive information faster.

My point is that it's amazing that my parents and grandparents made it without these things.

And I agree with tupperware...everyone wants instant gratification. Not saying that's good or bad, it's just how it is.

I will tell you that through my job and different experiences I have had, the instant information has turned laymens into "experts" on a variety of topics.
Again, these tools are not for everyone. My grandparents survived without cell phones and the internet and their grandparents survived without televisions, air conditioning and microwaves. That doesn't mean that I should throw out my laptop, cell phone, TV, microwave, and AC just because I can live without it. My point is simple: I, and the keyword is I, choose to take advantage of the technologies that we have available. You may not desire to do so, and that is perfectly fine with me.

I think the fact that we're all using the internet is enough proof that all of us don't mind taking advantage of the technologies provided to us. I live and let live and could care less what the next guy uses. I've read twitters before, I don't usually follow them, but that's beside the point.

My main interest and concern is, is there a point where information and the rate at which you receive it, become too much? If it does, what are some of the drawbacks and challenges of losing those updates? Obviously, we would all adapt fine to not getting a twitter update from Martellus Bennett, but what about in the cases where the reliance is much more important. The same for the Internet, do we depend on it too much?

I couldn't imagine a world without the Internet (And many businesses couldn't, either, some even make their revenue from it and depend on it, such as Netflix)

It is what it is. I agree with you have said...everyone adapts and chooses their own way to do so.

I just think it's getting a little crazy.

So youre saying when it it too much of a good thing?

If for some reason twitter goes away?.......Then I guess I would just have to wait for Schefter to appear on ESPN w/ the bookshelf behind him. Or wait for jokes from comedians on their specials.

It got "a little crazy" a while ago, .. it is now foolish.

The media, or the advertisers, or whomover, continually tell us that we HAVE TO HAVE every new gidget and gadget that they manufacture.

And the truth is we don't.

But there is a segment of society that jump all over every new thing that comes along like they can't go on without it.

Twitter is the third worst thing to happen to humanity in the last century, right behind World War II and the films of Kevin Smith

I agree that things are gone to an extreme now. But your issue is not with me. I don't care what shenanigans Bennett is currently up to, I don't care to know what MarionBarberThe4th had for lunch, etc. I use twitter because it is a convenient way to get instant news on tho go. I'm not always in a place where I can jump on the internet or stare at the bottom line of a news broadcast. I would rather not wait until late that night when I can sit down and do those things, so I take advantage of the technology that twitter offers so that I can keep in tune with what's going on, and there's no crime in that.

So how long before Twitter goes the way of my space?

If anything, Facebook will go the way of My Space before Twitter.

Nope, no crime at all. If it works for you, do it.

I just can't find anything worth following for myself, personally. My main interest as I posted above, lies in when is too much, too much.

Honestly I only follow the top headline news sources such as CNN, political figures, Dallas Cowboys news sources and writers, NFL network, and some NFL players. Everything else to me is a waste.
