OFFICIAL-Bobby Carpenter #1 thread...

I will go on record and say this is exactly what we need. We need a voice on this defense. Carp brings that. We have so much talent and no clear motivator. Carp is the field general we need. Carp called the defensive huddles. Carp was the field general. Great great pick IMO. Jackson may have been a batter value pick, but I like that this was the guy BP had targeted and didn't screw around and lose him. Way to stick to the draft board!!!!

Carp is exactly what we need!!!!!!

But you'll luv to be wrong right ... or are you one of those?

I really hope that most of you guys are right about Carpenter. I'm just not excited about this pick.

The haters don't like this pick because it's not "sexy". The truth is....he is a NFL ready LB at a position that we have a glaring need for.

He is a very solid pick. I am pleased.
I would not have hated Lawson, but I think we made the right choice with Carpenter.

I  our defense right now.

Hey I couldve went to Stovalls draft party out here in Philly. His cousin (my frat brother is out there now). He said Philly, KC, NE, and Denver (one more team I forget) are the teams most interested in him.

This from Charle's Robinson from Yahoo sports:

#18 Dallas, Bobby Carpenter OLB: Whoa. Huge surprise. Huge. Carpenter will likely have to be moved to the inside for the Cowboys in the 3-4 scheme. He doesn't fit on the outside from that set. Carpenter ran in the 4.6 range at Ohio State's pro day despite not being totally healthy. He's a great pursuit guy, but not a big hitter. One of the big questions is whether he can handle having to drop into pass coverage. Playing on the inside, that's not so much of a concern. - 3:05 pm EDT

Any thoughts?

I like the pick, obviously there was just no one to trade down with. Carpenter will contribute early, and he and Ware should terrorize QBs for years to come.

Terrible analysis.

I worry that he is a two down player and we wasted last year second round pick. It will take me a couple of days to like this pick.

Here's a lil info on Carp...reads just like a BP guy.

Strengths:
Has excellent size...Is very fast and athletic...Has great instincts...Is very natural and does an excellent job in coverage...Does a nice job of filling against the run...Flies to the ball and makes plays sideline-to-sideline...Tremendous pass rusher and blitzer...Tough as nails and a true football player...Tenacious and has a great motor...Versatile player...Very productive and has a lot of experience.

Weaknesses:
Has some trouble shedding blocks...Is not the surest tackler...Was surrounded by a lot of talent which alleviated pressure and didn't allow the opposition to focus only on him...Can be too aggressive at times...Might not be quite as athletic as his computer numbers would lead you to believe...Needs to use his hands better.

Notes:
Father Rob played for the New York Giants...Saw some action at defensive end for the Buckeyes...Was overshadowed by A.J. Hawk but this guy is a top prospect in his own right...A great strongside linebacker who could also be an impact player in a 3-4 pass rushing role as well...One of the drafts most underrated players.

To be honest... I am not sure if I like it or not... It certainly is a need pick.. but I am a Rob Carpenter fan now... I hope he has a long successful career with the Cowboys..

If Carp is so bad, then why is the greatest defensive mind in the game, Bellichek(sp) feeling pissy right now. Because BP picked his guy.....

You guys must not have watched Carp play. I saw the Texas game, ND and Michigan.....

He is awesome. He is one heck of a linebacker. His nose is always on the ball!!!!!
