***Official Draft Thread Day One***

Just to be clear, I liked Manziel but wasn't in love with him and never expected us to take him. But I do think some people have gone overboard with the smart/safe/trenches talk. There's more to good drafting than just taking an OL every year, especially at 16 and especially a G/RT. This guy isn't Tyron Smith.

I've advocated in the past for the 'O Line every year' approach' but it's not literal. You take them as high as you need to until you're set at Oline. Then you replenish and add depth through the lower rounds from then on until the core drops out. Granted that's an aggressive strategy but it isn't permanent. Now we have the core of a great O line and can ride these guys, hopefully, for at least several years to come.

Agree with this. Though I think Martin will work out I just don't think safe always equals better. I didn't want Manziel but I think safety fit better here.

In 2-3 years, we'll have the best offensive line in football... unfortunately, we'll still have the worst defense

That may be true, but it's completely irrelevant to what just happened. Zack Martin was the best player on the board and trade options failed in BOTH directions. This was still the right move, even if a lot of bad moves in the past created an impossible situation.

Now that Cleveland has Manziel perhaps they will cut Alex Tanney and Dallas can bring him back.
