Official officiating thread

What ticked me off the most was the hands to the face by Mo. I didn't see it at all on the replay. That would've been a punt by GB, but instead they went on to score a TD.
Wasn't that on their first possession of the game? because I remember on their first possession the D would have held them to a three and out but a penalty gave them a first and they went on to score.

The NFL is over officiated. That and too many commercials make the game nearly unwatchable. Blatant calls only & stop coddling the O (auto first downs for everything, etc.).
Agreed, they need to just do away with punt returns because there is a penalty on every one.

Third possession I believe. Stopped them at I think it was 5 plays to punt and then they score a TD after a phantom call keeps them going.

It was atrocious. Garrett needs to start standing up for the team and getting in their face. GB had what 2 flags?

Garrett was in the officials' faces all day long. I find it hard to believe Green Bay only committed 2 penalties, but many of the calls on Dallas were correct.

You need to play well enough to not have officials play a part in the outcome. The Cowboys didn't do that, especially in the first half.

The officiating wasn't the issue, they generally called a good game and let some things go if anything.

Dallas is a very young team and Rodgers played like an elite QB, plus GB got a lot of breaks. Its no consolation, but in the big picture a very young team starting a rookie QB did great to take this game down to last few seconds. And even then it took an absolute highlight reel catch to make it close at the end.

Agreed. The Cowboys lost because they allowed themselves to go down 21-3. If that doesn't happen, the game ends differently.

They lost because they put themselves in a big hole. They almost climbed out of it. If they don't put themselves in that hole, they win that games easily.

True and the refs helped put them in that hole 21-3

The difference in the Steelers-Chiefs game and the Dallas game is the refs had the testicular fortitude to call holding on the most important play of the game, KC 2 point conversion, and did not right here. Sucks.
Except that wasn't a hold. It's ironic that the Stealers get a bogus call to help them while the Boys have an obvious hold not called to go against them. I don't know which Chiefs player it was, but there was a video posted on Twitter of him being interviewed going on for about a minute about how disgusted he was with the refs on that play and how the refs were trying to be bigger than they're supposed to be.

It was a hold as an unbiased viewer. He hooked the DE's head with his left arm as he came around the edge and then fell on him as the DE lost his footing. They generally call that.

Was it offensive or not
Objectively, I thought both secondaries were mugging the WRs. I was watching the game with only Cowboys fans, but we were laughing sometimes at how much our CBs were holding their WRs. Shirts getting pulled out nearly a foot from the body for all to see and no flags...sweet!
It went the other way too....and in a big way.
It seemed like they were "letting them play" but maybe a bit too much at times.
jmo

We mismanaged the huddle early in the game. with both the weird 15 yard penalty for entering then leaving the huddle and the delay of game...both drive killers. When interviewed after the game, Dak admitted to not knowing that rule. That's really on the coaches as much or more than him.

That looks MUCH worse in freeze frame. At full speed the guy on his back didn't sustain the engagement and the next lineman over picked him up and was the one that made him a non-factor in the play.
No he didn't, #70 tackles Irving on that play. It was a more blatant hold than the 2point hold in the pitt kc game.

That penalty hasn't been called in 30 years. No bias here. Nope.

GOOD GAME??? Not sure if serious.

In my opinion college football officiating is much better and more consistent than the NFL.

Not saying they dont make mistakes or have controversy but I made an effort to watch a lot of college games this year to try to keep up with who was in the draft and very seldom did I think the refs decided games. Unlike the NFL where I watched 5 games a week and in at least 1/2 of them I felt like their was a bias or just ridiculous calls in critical parts of the game.

Of coarse college refs make around $250k a year and are full time.

So they let go at least 8 holding penalties on the Packers offensive line, but call Free for some BS.

They let go of 2 holds on our secondary, than also let them tackle Witten on the 1 yard line, but when the game is on the line, they decide now is the time to not let things go. Their job is to be consistent, if they are going to let things go, than let it go.

That is exactly why NFL games are so ridiculous, you can't pick and choose what to let go, it gives an appearance of favoritism. Especially when you finally decide to call something in a critical down, that you haven't called all game. Or like in this game when one team has 2 penalties and the other has 8 called. Yet both teams are committing penalties.

Have you watched the video (not a freeze frame) of the play? I just did. The center #63, who is totally hidden from view in that freeze frame people keep posting, is the guy who put Irving to the ground.

Lang still put an arm on him, but it was for a split second.

So you think the refs were out to get us by calling a player entering a huddle then leaving it.
Has it even happened before?

And what bias are you referring to? Assume you didn't mean me personally....but you never know around here.
My bias is for the Cowboys, obviously.
