Just asking because 1883 is a prequel to Yellowstone. They were showing a flashback in the last Yellowstone episode of Tim McGraw's character tying the series together.
I want to preface this by saying I'm a big fan of the first Matrix movie. Like most, I was disappointed with the sequels. The trailer for Matrix 4 promised to be more of what fans enjoyed in the first film. So Matrix 4.... wasn't horrible, wouldn't call it a classic either. I would compare it to the new Star Wars trilogies from JJ Abrams. A lot of references to the stuff a fan loved in the first movie. Surprisingly, a lot of references to 2 and 3 too which were tougher for me because haven't seen those in a looong time. Just enough to make you remember why you enjoyed the series, or maybe the first film. But like the new Star Wars movies, not original enough to be its own flick, and at times, somewhat boring. (Was almost 3 hours long!)
Could also be confusing in some parts. I'm still not sure if Neo & Trinity were supposed to be 80 years old in the non-Matrix world. Did any of the new end fight scenes match that same excitement from the first film when they broke into the federal building? Nah. Were any of the new actors as good as the ones they replaced? Some came close, but nothing like the original. Even the music was disappointing versus the first film, including the lame Rage Against the Machine remake in the end credits. I think I'm writing all of this out to see how I feel about the movie, and I'm leaning "thumbs down" after all of it. Okay film, but after all these years, I was hoping for more.
Curious what other fans thought?
I think you’re being far too kind. This was an uninspired mess of a film that did nothing but mine past success.
Again and again it did nothing but flashbacks to the past and ‘remember when you liked this?’ from the previous films.
It had no new story to tell and any changes made were for the worse.
My advice to any fans of the original? Take the blue pill and pretend this one never happened.
I won't disagree.
I know they tried to pass it off as making fun of how serious the Matrix took itself including the bullet time, but I think the filmmakers just didn't know how to awe us as much.
Some of those action scenes with Keanu Reeves, he didn't look like he could even fight anymore, which was another letdown because I just saw him do it in John Wick 3. LOL
Someone tried to write a clever script that meant well, but ugh.... Felt like I had to wash myself of it like I did after JJ Abrams Star Wars trash.
My suggestion to film studios who want to reboot sci-fi action machines: Go the same route Star Trek or Dune did. Just recast and do your own thing.
I think the acting is fine, for the most part. I think it's the dialogue at times that makes it seem like bad acting.
Cavill went after that role because he is a huge fan of the game but I think he's channeling the video game Geralt too closely and not really bringing him to life. He underplays the role but he is true to the original Witcher. You’re right, the dialogue is horrendous and the primary issue. Geralt is about as one-dimensional a character you can possibly have. I’m not expecting award winning stuff here but this is on par with Xena the Warrior Princess.
The way @stasheroo talks, maybe it'd be more enjoyable if you forget what happened in the first 3, and everything in the fourth will be like a new thing!I'm going to have to watch the new Matrix, despite the reviews in here. I just have to. I actually ruined a Christmas present last night from the wife. She was wanting to wait and re-watch the first 3 Matrix movies before we watched the forth. I was pressing her to start last night as I'm eager to see the forth movie. She was trying to talk me into waiting until the weekend. Finally she gave in and gave me my Matrix 4K trilogy she bought me. Whoops!
So hopefully I can report back in a few days and throw down my thoughts. Bummer to hear it wasn't great though.

Watching The Wheel Of Time: E7. The opening scene is ridiculously stupid. At first I thought it was some type of parody of the show, that's how idiotic it is. Brings a new low to the female empowerment agenda.
It really is. If you don't watch the show, it's worth skipping to E7, just to see how bad it is. lolWorse than this?
The hint is there, they get progressively worse,I am rewatching the first 3 and will watch the 4th. With the low expectations now set, I will probably enjoy as it may not be as bad as I now think it will be.
