Did you find a job yet, and he would say not yet. (because he was smoking weed) and then it said, weed will make you do nothing too. That is exactly what it does.

That's really not true for everyone. Lots of successful people get their business done during the days and relax at night. It doesn't affect their day-to-day business. Lawyers, doctors, people in all walks of life.

That was the same reason for my initial reply to him (blanket statement that he made).

Sorry for piling on, Sam :)

Sure, I know successful people who smoke weed. It comes down to about the persons inner drive. If they have a strong inner drive, they can continue to be successful.

That doesn't change the facts of what it's affects are on the user. As I said, nothing I said is not true. It's all 100% true.

You said weed makes people do nothing. That isn't, true, Sam. It's an old, antiquated narrative.

No it's not. You are looking at what I said with one eye shut. When a man / woman smokes weed. They become lethargic. What are they usually doing during this time? That's right. Nothing constructive.

EDIT:
It's just like drinkers of sort. There are those that drink lightly nightly and those that drink nightly heavily and go to work every day with a hangover.

Not true. I have battles that smoke weed daily, and perform their jobs with the utmost professionalism. Jobs that you would be (I assume) appalled to know that allow it (or turn a blind eye) to happen. VARO raters, Border Patrol, LAPD.

Because it makes some lethargic (like myself) doesn't make it an end-all-be-all side effect. Like other medications that offer various side effects, depending on the user.

You're still missing the point. If you're not high, nothing stops you from doing your job. Hell, some people can work and be high at the same time. Look at the most successful airline (really you don't even need to specify airline) CEO in history, Herb Kelleher. Dude drinks ALL THE TIME! Yet, Southwest airline was making money hand-over-fist while all the other airlines where floundering and losing billions!

The point is, that adding chemicals to your body, changes you. Drinking changes a man. Smoking weed changes a man. To sit here and deny that fact tells me you either A) do not understand chemistry and biology, or B) your are carrying an extreme bias and just refuse to admit the truth like global warming detractors.

First, I am not a global warming detractor.

Second, the points you just made were very different than your original argument. Of course weed, or any medication changes brain chemistry. That's why they're used, Sam.

Yes, but I'm not just talking about when they are in use. They change the overall biological makeup of the person. If you met someone that has never drank in his entire life. He will be one man. If you introduce him to alcohol and he starts drinking often. When you meet him again in two years. The characteristics of his personality will have changed quite a bit. He will still be the same person, but will have different outlooks, opinions on some things, and of course. Different habits that will affect his drive and interests.

So will a depressed man that hasn't been introduced to antidepressants or a person with clinical anxiety that hasn't been introduced to anxiolytics. They all change brain chemistry. They all offer change.

The interesting thing is that depression while caused many times by a dramatic event.. The event itself usually causes the body to produce a chemical imbalance (releases higher amounts of specific chemicals kind if like how adrenaline works) that has a negative affect (ie, continued depression) on the brain. While there are idiots out there that claim otherwise (like global warming), it is very much true.

The body is a biological entity which means everything it does comes from chemical reactions. Like a food recipe, if you increase, decrease an ingredient, it will change it's attributes. Add or remove ingredients, it too will change it's attributes. No yeast, a bread will not rise. In fermentation, sugar is converted to alcohol, but if you add too much sugar, the yeast will die once too much alcohol is created. This is why beer / wine doesn't get that much alcohol while spirits require distillation to reach higher levels of alcohol.

All chemicals cause changes. Not just while they are present, but over the long haul. Causing an evolution of sort within the body.

Nothing to argue with here, Sam. :) Now, where are my damn beer nuts!? :D

every year, I can count on one hand the amount of days I go without a drink

I'm the same as you in terms of, I have a pretty good paying job, I have a home, I'm always in control of myself, and I have a lovely wife and daughter etc etc

I just freaking love drinking, is all. hahah...

I don't think it's THAT excessive though... I have 1 a night during the week, and about 8-10 a night on Friday and Saturday (includes a couple during the day on Sat), and then about 4 on Sunday nights (and about 3 during the day if the Cowboys are playing a noon/3pm game)

when I was in my early 20's (I'm 32 now), my weekend pattern was my EVERYDAY pattern... so I know that I'm able and responsible enough to cut it back wherever and whenever necessary

it's Friday!!!! hnnnnnnnnnnngggggggggg
