I don't really have a problem with Tony holding, but I do wonder why he got the nod over Crayton, probably just more experience I guess.

Who the heck cares. Are you people actually listening to yourselves? Tony will be just fine, I prefer him back there if Folk can make kicks again.

If it adds 3 or 6 points to our games then it is more than worth it.

Chill the heck out

common sense don't go well around here man...you better be careful.

Shut up man, I love common sense.

Oh, you meant the mental quality, not the poster by that name.

what a ****ing joke. the guy has enough on his plate and now he's gotta hold cause our overrated punter can't even do that. all he can do is kick it far he can't even pin the other team inside the ten. morons everywhere when it comes to this team. smh
McBriar leads the league in placing punts inside the 20 yard line. Overrated? No. Isn't a very good holder? Possibly.

If Folk misses the ball and kicks Tony's hand injuring him, I will jump on the next plane to Dallas and personally kick the crap out of Nicole Folk.

If he kicks his hand it will be Tony's fault

What's wrong with having the starting QB hold? It's been done before. I always thought that was so stupid to blame Parcells for that.

Name me one team in the NFL that currently has their starting QB hold for FGs and XPs???

Name me just one starting QB in the league that currently holds.

GAC on Romo going back to holding on kicks
---------------------------

Next season we draft a holder.

35 specialists on one football team.

Brilliant!

A 3rd round LB who can't get on to the active roster. Not even as a special teams player.

Wade Phillips. One more year! One more year! One more year!

..Are you serious? Geeze guy.

This thread is officially bookmarked. I sincerely hope I don't have to return to it and bump it only to have it locked by a mod in record time. Good luck Tony. Godspeed.

Just make sure you return if Romo doesn't mess up a fieldgoal for the rest of the year.

I'm all for the best person for the job getting a chance to do the job. If it's Romo, that's fine by me.

This is just beyond stupid, letting your franchise QB hold for FGs and XPs:confused:

That would be like the Colts having Manning hold or the Pats having Brady hold......we would all be like What ?????

I cannot think of 1 single starting QB in the NFL that currently holds, there is a reason for that it is not just some big coincidence fellas. The fact that the franchise QB is the only guy on the roster that can apparently hold is freaking amazing. I just cant believe that it has gotten to this point with Folk that we have to do something this desperate to get him out of his slump.

So what do we do if Shankapotamus still cant kick with Romo holding???

Well, who are we going to get to hold for field goal attempts. Kitna cant do it, crayton has tried he cant, we have seen the results of mcbrair holding. I think some of this problem has been what was wrong with special lteams last year. I heard that some of the players basically didnt want to play special teams. I hear that McBrair really doesnt want to be the holder for field goal attempts.

You would think that out of 52 players on the roster, (I am not adding the kicker Folk because he kickes field goals attempts) that the coaches can find a holder for field goal attempts.

To me this shows how inept some of the players are and their lack of desire to help the team. With some of them not wanting to play on special teams. If you all remember, we had to draft some special teams players this year in the draft.

That also to me points to the head coach not being able to do his job by finding a field goal holder.

Thats just sad!

Dallas Cowboys' Romo to resume role as holder

10:34 PM CST on Wednesday, December 9, 2009

By BILL NICHOLS / The Dallas Morning News

IRVING – And the Cowboys' new holder is ... Tony Romo?

The Cowboys new holder may be its former holder. In an attempt to reverse the downward spiral of kicker Nick Folk, the Cowboys used Romo in Wednesday's practice. He replaced punter Mat McBriar, who has mishandled two recent field goal attempts.

"We feel like we need to do something, whether it's the whole operation itself or some of the parts," coach Wade Phillips said. "We've got to get more confidence from our kicker. We need to do better. There is a possibility that we'll make a change."

Romo served as the Cowboys' holder in 2005 and 2006. His bobble on Martin Gramatica's 19-yard field goal try with 1:19 left cost the Cowboys a playoff win against Seattle in January 2007. Backup quarterback Brad Johnson was the holder last season.

After making 20 of 22 field goal attempts last season, Folk has missed five of his last seven. McBriar blamed two of those on him placing the ball forward, away from Folk.

"In practice we're solid. We've been solid since training camp, and for whatever reason we haven't been getting it done lately," McBriar said before practice. "I'll get ready to be the holder this week, and if it comes to me I'll prepare the same way and if it goes to somebody else then so be it."

Folk said he has not lost confidence. Still, a change in the operation could spark better results.

"Tony is actually a better holder than Brad was," Phillips said. "I think something new for our kicker would maybe help him."

Special teams coach Joe DeCamillis said Romo "did a good job" in practice. "We will have a better feel tomorrow with some more reps. He definitely gives us some fake possibilities."

I challenge anyone to name the holders on five other NFL teams.

Holding isn't something that just anyone can do. Like any other skill it requires tons of practice to perfect.

People are saying that you don't use the starting QB. The only reason they typically don't is most starting QBs don't have experience, not holding in college and very few were low expectation backups for several years like Romo.

Holding is also one of the safest positions on the field. Somebody name how many holders have been injured over the years.
