Opinion: If we don't win out-we aren't getting in

Why is everyone thinking we win the tie breaker over SEA?

We don't own the tiebreaker over any of the teams competing for the Wild Card. SEA, ARZ and DET only have 2 conference losses, we already have 4. GB has 3.

We lose one of these next 3 games we need someone else to lose 2, pretty simple.

I think the reason people are looking for tie breaker over Seattle is because we beat them.

I personally don't understand how Seattle gets in if we're both 11-5. I know they have a better conference record but conference record should not trump or be more important than head to head. Dallas beat them in their place so if they finish with the same schedule then Dallas should beat them out.

It's my understanding, from yesterday and this thread, that this is not the case however because some how head to head has lost it's spot as the main tie breaker.

What's it going to be then, eh?

I do not believe it has.

TO BREAK A TIE FOR THE WILD-CARD TEAM
If it is necessary to break ties to determine the two Wild-Card clubs from each conference, the following steps will be taken.
  1. If the tied clubs are from the same division, apply division tie breaker.
  2. If the tied clubs are from different divisions, apply the following steps.
Two Clubs
  1. Head-to-head, if applicable.

The rub is where there is more than one other team for the tie breaker to be applied to. If it is a three way tie, then the conference record factors in. So that is why what Arizona and Detroit do the rest of the way has an impact. We just want to have the same record as Seattle and be the only two vying for the wild card.

Right there with the OP. Cows have to win Sunday in Philly to get into the post season. Lose and it's a done deal.

Well, it isn't likely, but the Cowboys could theoretically lose to the Eagles next week and win out, finishing 11-5 while the Eagles lose to the Commanders and Giants, finishing 10-6. In that scenario, we win the division.

When did this abbreviation/ nickname get started of calling the Dallas Cowboys the Cows?

I for one dislike it a lot.

It's meant to be derogatory. It's something our opposing fans like to call us because cows are passive food animals.

Some of our fans have adopted it and I'll just let you speculate as to why that is.

Randy Galloway started it.

It is completely possible the Lions lose to CHI or MIN. I think that's our best option.
I can't see the Eagles losing to WSH or NYG. They still could, though.

those division games are tricky at best. Who thought NY Giants would put up such a fight against Dallas in second game. And how about Washington...they looked like steel curtain in Dallas last game with them. You just have to wait and see. Three games is an eternity in NFL.

Exactly. It seems like we always worry about needing other teams to do X so we can make it in. This year we completely control our own destiny but having to beat 2 teams above .500 out of our next 3 seems impossible for this team. I mean how many teams over .500 have we beat in the last 2 years? 1? Seattle is the only game I can think of.

2014.................we have beat one team that is currently over 500 (Seattle)

2013................we beat one team that finished the season over 500 (1st game with Philly where Foles was throwing dirt balls all game until being knocked out of game with a concussion)

So in the past 2 seasons, we have exactly 2 wins against so called "good teams"........................our next two opponents will both finish the season over 500 and we have to beat both of them to realistically win the division.

I think that is why the general mood on this board is down.................based off past history, not too many people are confident we can beat both Philly and Indy.

Texans are 7-6. Why doesn't it count?

Do we focus on what teams finishing records are or what the records were when we played them?

Thing is when we win people on here have reservations about how we did it, but when we lose one game we lump Garrett's entire tenure with that one loss. I just can't believe there is more doubt than excitement on here for Sunday's game.

Past history might be playing a factor here....................the Cowboys have historically struggled in December, especially against our division rivals...............we have been eliminated in each of the past three seasons by every one of our rivals.

Its not week 17, but Sunday is basically an elimination game for us when it comes to the division title. If we lose, pretty much eliminates any realistic chance we have to win the division. Philly would have to lose out to both Washington and New York (a pair of sub 500 teams) and we would have to win out (including a win over the Colts).

Highly unlikely that Philly beats us and then loses back to back games against sub 500 teams and us win out all at the same time.............so this Sunday is like an elimination game for us and people remember how the last 3 seasons have ended.

And the Rams are no slouch either. Of course if we lost to them, it would be more of the "we can't beat winning teams" nonsense.

The Rams were playing their 3rd string QB when we played them, and even then we barely eked it out.
