Only one problem....that pesky no-trade clause that Jerry forgot to take out of the contract. I'd trade for Zach Wilson in a heartbeat...if the Jets wanted to move on.
What a Great Leader Zach Wilson!

He can really Inspire a Diverse lockerroom.

Lacks the mental make to lead.....:lmao2:

First off, Jerry loves him, so he’s not going anywhere… There’s also that nasty no trade clause…But what if…

Impossible
Cut this offseason, pre June 1. 89m in dead money.

Not impossible,
Cut this offseason, post June 1. There is no point to do this as his P5 is guaranteed. Literally no reason to do this…

Possible but kills our 23 offseason.
Trade this offseason, pre June 1. A little cheaper than Outright cutting him as his guaranteed p5 would move with him. Still 58m in dead money.

Plausible
Trade this off-season, post June 1. This is the sweet spot. We would save 31m in cap space for 2023. We would still have 40 million in Dead money, but it would be spread over future years 2024 - 2026.

Trade - You ask why would anybody trade for him? The answer is that since we would eat his remaining signing bonus, the acquiring team would get him on a two year 65m non guaranteed contract. There is actually value in that… Still that no trade clause though.

So there you have it. The only realistic option for 2023 is a post June 1 trade, that Dak agrees to. I think we could get a first round pick for for him… Maybe something like the Carson Wentz deal between Philly and Indy - a 23 third rounder and conditional 24 first rounder. .
Well think about this dak is not going to get traded

Wow admit that Zach is the anti-deck but somebody up thread Said he simply not a leader and that’s important. There’s just something in his mood or attitude that’s not a leader. Jerry Jones will hold on to the bitter end

We are stuck with Dak until 2025. But I would due my home work on QBs coming out in this draft. If there is one in teh draft take him. Let's see what the Texans due with Davis Mills. If they move on from him, I would look at possibly signing him as Daks backup and eventual replacement in 2025. At least the kids has some brains.
Davis Mills??????.........how about getting rid of the OC in training this offense has been under? Simplest and obvious change. Davis Mills? Cooper Rush should get mad at that.

This team is not good enough to bring in a "Mr. Irrelevant." So as fans, let's ride on with what we have.

I’m not so sure about that. We’ve had a very productive high scoring offense while he’s been here. That’s not to say there hasn’t been some issues with the playcalling because there has. Since Dak suffered that serious ankle injury two years ago he’s lost some of his confidence. The last time we saw him play consistent football was early last season.

The scoring is based on talent. Situational football, is not his forte.

Dak still has two years remaining on his contract and I don’t see the Cowboys moving on from him but it’s possible they could take a QB within the first three rounds in April. They’re going to have to start preparing for life without him because they may not re-sign him.
I believe if the Cowboys wet the bed in the playoffs again, the Cowboys will have no choice but look at drafting a quarterback. 7 years and one playoff win does not cut it. With the money Dak is making there is no way the Cowboys extend him.

No trade clause. Unless you get him to wave it, which is unlikely. He will play out his contract then you let him walk.

Let us see how this season plays out then evaluate talent. If the playoff run is not productive as many posters here fear then I would suggest changing offensive coordinators and bringing in a good QB coach to work with Prescott. That may or may not help his game but it would certainly be worth a try. I fear another disappointing playoff could start to work on Prescott head and confidence. Something should be done to try and turn that around sooner rather than later. Cutting him or trading him is very likely out of the question giving his contract and how Jones and Son appear to be sold on him.

IMO he is not as bad as his detractors posting here believe BUT he is not as good as his supporters here believe either.

You gotta think beyond a quick fix.

So what I would do is keep him another year if possible but I am definitely looking QB in the 1st or 2nd round in this coming draft.

Now there is no way Jerry and Stephen would even consider this because:
  1. They are loyal to a fault with guys, not moving on from some until far too late.
  2. They are loathe to admit mistakes and cutting or trading Dak would mean they made an error in giving him that big contract and they simply don't like to look bad.
I agree…it sucks though. Look at the eagles, they traded Wentz after a big deal and now are super bowl favs two years later.

Dak is an enigma, he needs a change of scenery as well.

he could be traded…cap wise at least.

Wow. Zero understanding of cap dynamics.

"There is no point to do this as his P5 is guaranteed. Literally no reason to do this…"

Yeah. 45 million dead money in 13 and 14. Recipe for success.
It’s ok that you have zero understanding of cap dynamics…read my post again and maybe it helps. You could also Google ‘eagles colts wentz trade’ …they did essentially the same thing and are Super Bowl favourites two years later.

They will restructure his contract this offseason, which means adding years to lessen his annual cap hit.

Some folks won't like that but if you think Jerry's looking to move on and draft a QB, prepare yourselves.
Technically a restructure would mean moving p5 into signing bonus…that would free up at most 22.4m in 2023.

Draft is looking real good in 2024 but I'm a big believer you should be drafting a qb every 2 years in case you strike gold.

Tank the 2023 season - like absolutely tank the season and join the Caleb Williams sweepstakes. Dak is a known quantity and he is what he is at this point - a below average QB.

NOBODY is trading for Dak, the secret is out.
Option 1 : Draft a solid QB and let them compete next year.
Option 2: trade Parsons to the Saints for Payton and their #1and #2 picks and trade up to the top 3 for a blue chip QB and let him compete and learn from Payton. Cut Dak in 2024 post July.
Let's face it you cannot afford to pay Parsons and field a defense anyway.

Don't think you need to trade for Payton next season, he will be available.

We should have kept Mike White but Jason Garrett kept Carrot Topper II - Cooper Rush
