CFZ Options for moving on from Dak?

If you want to replace him or want him gone, who do you replace him with?? He's not a top tier QB but he's also not Danny Hogeboom, Steve Pelluer, Quincy Carter, Chad Hutchinson. He is what he is at this point. We need to use him as such and not think he's Dan Marino. Use the running game and play action off that.

I am not a Dak fan ... and a quick look at my posting history will back this up. That being said... I am a realist, and accept he is our QB at least for another season. Any discussions or threads around him not being here are a waste of time. Our FO and coaching staff needs to figure out how do we get the most from him and cut down on the situations he is put in that will lead to turn overs.

Playoff everyone starts 0-0 and records don't matter.

First off, Jerry loves him, so he’s not going anywhere… There’s also that nasty no trade clause…But what if…

Impossible
Cut this offseason, pre June 1. 89m in dead money.

Not impossible,
Cut this offseason, post June 1. There is no point to do this as his P5 is guaranteed. Literally no reason to do this…

Possible but kills our 23 offseason.
Trade this offseason, pre June 1. A little cheaper than Outright cutting him as his guaranteed p5 would move with him. Still 58m in dead money.

Plausible
Trade this off-season, post June 1. This is the sweet spot. We would save 31m in cap space for 2023. We would still have 40 million in Dead money, but it would be spread over future years 2024 - 2026.

Trade - You ask why would anybody trade for him? The answer is that since we would eat his remaining signing bonus, the acquiring team would get him on a two year 65m non guaranteed contract. There is actually value in that… Still that no trade clause though.

So there you have it. The only realistic option for 2023 is a post June 1 trade, that Dak agrees to. I think we could get a first round pick for for him… Maybe something like the Carson Wentz deal between Philly and Indy - a 23 third rounder and conditional 24 first rounder. .

Is the new QB going to play defense?

Your better off just rooting for another team. Our top 10 QB leading the #1 offense in football isnt goinig anywhere.

Jerry Jones isn't keeping Dak because he loves him. Jerry cut Emmitt Smith, Troy Aikman, and Tony Romo at different points. I'm not sure there is anyone Jerry likes more than one of these 3 (probably Romo).

Really hope a decent QB prospect falls to the 20s where we will be picking. This is the perfect time to draft a QB and let him sit for a few years while Dak finishes out his contract. If they still have not advanced far in the playoffs after 2024, are they really going to re-sign Dak to another big contract at age 32? I think even Jerry has more sense than that.

Why wouldnt they resign their top 10 QB?

Jerry is keeping Dak because he is one of the best in the NFL. Simple as that. Sadly he is smarter than many on here.

They will restructure his contract this offseason, which means adding years to lessen his annual cap hit.

Some folks won't like that but if you think Jerry's looking to move on and draft a QB, prepare yourselves.
Extension!

Yeah...I saw a defense force a fumble near the end of regulation...and I saw a defense force a 3 and out on Jax's initial possession in OT. However, the offense went 3 and out and INT on both of those respectively. Complimentary football...like when the defense carried the offense for five games. The 3rd and 10 call/formation in regulation was some bonehead crap that only Moore could serve up. He just won't eat his vegetables or stay between the lines. Too many times some cute crap at the most inopportune time. It will cost McCarthy his job if he doesn't get a handle on these types of situations. Delegation is going to get him fired.

I think McCarthy is a dead man walking at this point. Jerry will fire him and elevate Kellen because he is such a believer that Kellen Moore is the next coming of Chuck Noll.

Dak is here the next two years, not even a question.

We have no one to replace him with.
I agree that he is here for the next 2 years unless he asks for a trade and restructures his contract to facilitate such move like a Jimmy G did in San Francisco. Can’t see it happening here unless Dak sees his replacement standing right behind him. Dallas is a big market with tax exempts and nobody to push him. We need to prepare to take a QB in the this years draft to replace Rush or Dak once his contract expires. Start the preparations now. We have some decisions to make in the next few years for pending contracts: Lamb, Diggs, and Parsons. The QB market for contracts is out of control and Dak will ask for possibly 50. Kansas City had a let say, better than average QB when they decided to take a chance on Patrick. They prepared themselves for that move and it gave them savings and a guy that could take you to the big game.

And that is why the Dallas Cowboys will continue to never win anything. Just good enough to stay as a mediocre team.
Lol, no, we’ll just continue to have a bunch of shrill screaming and vigorous stomping of wittle feet from those that don’t comprehend what they’re watching!

Replacing the OC makes way more sense logically and financially. Dak is not perfect as we all know, but I’d be more willing to accept moving on after at least trying to change the offensive scheme he’s been running since his rookie year. KM is a part of the JG lineage, and until this team fully moves on, we’ll continue to be handcuffed

Oh I'm watching an overrated overhyped team that has the best PR department in the country. Outside of that the Dallas Cowboys are paper champions every offseason.

Lol, overhyped, paper champion? This team entered the season with massive question marks at multiple positions…OT, LG, LB, WR etc.. Most people here were predicting 8 wins at best. They’re currently at 10 wins…. Regardless of what happens this team overachieved most peoples expectations. But hey, paper champions!

The problem is that having a bonafide elite QB is a rare thing, this team needs to build itself in such a way that it can win with a "good" QB. That means the Jones' have to build/invest heavily into the defense and OL which they've proven they are unwilling to do consistently. They also have to quit play-acting like Dak is an elite QB, they've set him up to fail by not building a top defense to support him. Yes, this current defense was much improved until the injuries hit, they need to keep building on it.
