Unfortunately, I bet his contract will be well over $10 million a year. He is probably the top defensive tackle in free agency and some team will over pay for his services. Would love to keep him with a contract around 4 year $50 with funny money built in but I don’t think that happens.
right Tennessee or someone will sign him early

What I would do and what the Jones clan will do are likely two different things. The way they undervalue that position I'm sure they are leaning on letting him walk and take the comp pick. But I would try to resign him. Just don't tag him.
If ever there was a position that we may have to slightly overpay to keep, it would be this one .

If Mazi ever plays to his perceived potential, it would be a decent 1,2 punch......not great but satisfactory

I would work something out with him. As long as he isn’t asking for the moon.
Just like Dak, Osa deserves to get paid. The best option is to get that compensatory pick and hope they draft someone that can replace him.

I would defiantly try to keep him he's a gamer for sure and home grown draft pic. Dump Mazi, Diggs, Steele D law, Martin along with the other players that are just collecting a game check. There will be enough to sign MP.....JJ has to start being a dam GM....not us in the forum who always state the obvious.

OTC has a value of around $10M. I will admit, I have no idea how close it is to his true value on the open market, but if he walks, you get a compensatory pick, and a new starter will be needed at DT.
Side note: As good as he's been our rush defense is still near the bottom. In other words, he hasn't helped our run defense as much as we'd like.

Honestly, I'm on the fence ...it's hard to build a team when you are letting solid drafted players walk but on the other side, he's just one piece of the puzzle. Tough call

he is the only consistent DT we have. we should bring him back on a reasonable contract.
but according to Joneses, a rookie is cheaper.
the 5th wave of FA you find contract bargains.

I love the kid but the truth is, he and Mazi have played together as starters for 2 years and our run defense is still near the bottom. How to reconcile that......

Yep absolutely. If the Cowboys resign Osa, Mazi keeps getting better and they spend a 1st on a war daddy DT the Cowboys would field the best interior DL that they had in a very very long time. And I would still advocate for drafting yet another DT.

Would love a tech 1 ( Deone Walker is a good start )

You sign him and Golston

You then have

End - Micah, Williams, Kneeland, Golston

Tackle - Osa, Mazi

They aren’t the purple people eaters or the fearsome foursome. But they’d be a legit 1T from being really good

You reconcile it my making him and offer that you would be happy to have him play on and you move on if someone else overvalues him.

Mazi sucks. he has one decent, not great, decent game and people celebrate. he is the weak link in all of it. Osa is a goot 3-tech DT and can generate pressure. he needs a strong 1-tech tackle next to him and when he has had some that at least is serviceable he has bene decent.

also, part of our run problems is our run defense to the outside, we tend to get gashed on outside runs often.

we shouldn't break the bank on Osa, but should bring him back.

It’s gonna be so funny watching the Joneses screw free agency up again. Our defensive tackle rotation next season will be Mazi, a washed up veteran, and one of our comp picks. You can’t make this stuff up. Then the Jones homers will blame Dak, Micah, and CeeDee for our mediocre record.

This is exactly what will happen, to the T.

In a normal organization, Odighizhua would be kept. Not here at the bargain basement bin. He will garner a nice payday next year and it won’t be here.

What I don’t understand is if this franchise is supposed to be all about “draft and develop”, when they draft and develop a player like Osa Odighizhua, then let him go, it makes the develop part Ring a little hollow.

Bottom line: You can’t build a great roster without spending some cap space on some upper mid-level FAs. Osa would be exactly what this team needs to keep but they wont pay for a guy who doesn’t sell a ton of jerseys.

Mazi has played ok the last 6 weeks. He actually has been solid for most of the season. He is 23 years old and will get better. Do you know Mazi played last season with a bum shoulder and missed all offseason activities. I can tell you know nothing about playing the 1 tech. Mazi is a reason Osa and defense has stepped up recently.

I wouldn't hesitate to bring OSA back, and fully expect him to have close value to a Christian Wilkins who signed for 4/$110M this past offseason. He would be extremely difficult to replace unless you can land a gift in Mason Graham in round 1.

Part of me wonders if OSA is impacting some of the rumors that Micah could be traded? It could be very difficult to keep both players and moving Micah and signing OSA saves you about $20-25M per year and is likely to net you two premium picks or more making it most likely a 4-5 player swing. Letting OSA walk nets you a 3rd round comp pick, but you keep a higher end player in Micah. It makes for an interesting debate for sure.

I think Osa will get more than $10 million from someone. I also think it will not be Jerry Jones. Osa will leave and Jerry will make no attempt to sign him. But I think he will re-sign Golston who will come cheaper.
This is exactly what I'm expecting to happen, but it leaves a massive hole on your DL that isnt easy to replace. I just hope they dont try to make Golston into a hybrid 3T/DE again...he seems to be much better playing outside.
