Osa hasn’t been real consistent. He’ll has some great games like last week then disappear for several games. However, I would like to keep him but he’ll likely get a pretty good free agent offer.

Bottom line: You can’t build a great roster without spending some cap space on some upper mid-level FAs. Osa would be exactly what this team needs to keep but they wont pay for a guy who doesn’t sell a ton of jerseys.
If jerry ever builds a balanced roster with a solid defense I'll know I'm dreaming.

OTC has a value of around $10M. I will admit, I have no idea how close it is to his true value on the open market, but if he walks, you get a compensatory pick, and a new starter will be needed at DT.
Side note: As good as he's been our rush defense is still near the bottom. In other words, he hasn't helped our run defense as much as we'd like.

Honestly, I'm on the fence ...it's hard to build a team when you are letting solid drafted players walk but on the other side, he's just one piece of the puzzle. Tough call

It would be asinine to lose a guy that we developed into a solid run stopper, who can get to the quarterback every once and again.

No chance. On the tag he would have to be paid like an elite player for one season. He hasn’t been good enough to tag him.
Maybe it all depends on what his actual market is. Last year the DT tag was $22m. Christian Wilkins got $27m per year in FA. Granted Wilkins is a bigger better run defender what teams are paying for is pass rush ability and OSAs metrics are mostly on par or ahead of Wilkins last year. I could see osa getting just under the Wilkins deal on the open market. Maybe 4 years 90-100m range? If so it could make sense to tag him just under $25m for one year but we will see. Next 3 games could be huge for the guys value.

It’s a safe bet we won’t be tagging anyone.

Could be, but I would think either OSA or Dowdle could be candidates if Jerry wants to avoid a long commitment to either player. Wouldn't surprise me if the Cowboys were content with the comp picks either though....

22M cap hit.

thats our entire free cap for 2025.
So far its our entire free cap. I'm not quite on the train that the Cowboys will restructure and cut enough players to open up $100M+ they do have some obvious moves to make to open up some additional space. It would be a lot cheaper for Jerry's wallet to tag a guy like OSA than lock him up to a 4/5 year extension that he probably commands in FA which is why I wouldn't doubt its a possibility.

The time to sign Osa was last offseason but another contract situation the Jones screwed up. What major contract given would be considered a win for this organization?
Oh my god. If we resigned him last off-season half the board would be complaining about how we extended a player who hasn't done anything. All I ever seem to read anymore is complaining. None of you are GMs. You don't know how any of the NFL works. You would all fail in the position. 100%

So? We would all mostly fail as pilots too, but its pretty obvious someone messed up when a plane crashes. I see no issues calling out obvious roster management flaws by this organization in the same way. If you think this team has done a great job handing contracts I'm just not sure that we would ever come to an agreement.

Its not unheard of for teams to resign their guys a year early. OSA would have actually been a great candidate to do so with as the analytic data suggested he out performed his stat line last year by a significant margin. Now we have no idea if OSA was open to negotiating early or not, but I think its still a reasonable thought from the poster.

If Osa's agent has a lick of sense he would go to market if those number are even in that ballpark for him. Dallas isn't paying that for a DT. Collect a 5th round comp (it's like maximum Dallas can receive) and carry on.

There's a nugget that suggests they generally offer young low-level free-agent players 2-year extension. I haven't looked it up but........Rico may be a candidate. I mean he's an ascending player but there is still not enough skin on the wall of what he could be worth in a couple of years.
