Still not 100% sold on Garrett but I am no longer calling for his head. Making him a walk around coach was the best thing for him and there is nothing wrong with being a walk around coach. I just wonder if he would have made all the game / clock management mistakes that cost us the playoffs three years in a row if he was a walk around coach from the beginning??? He was in over his head pulling double duty for his first three years (and please don't say Callahan was OC last year, he had the title but everyone knows who ran the offense).

Lets not turn the discussion absurd. It's about balance. 7+ losses due to clock management is not balanced and that is what I objected to. It doesn't mean anyone claims that Garrett walks on water. There is a little bit of ground in between those extremes wouldn't you say?

Here's the thing. You had the Garrett sux crowd. And you have had some extreme pro Garrett supporters who have made excuses for every mishap along the way and NOTHING that Red did was ever wrong. They posted as if he could walk on water. So yes, there are two extremes and a very small number who are parked in the middle of those extremes.

Balance, or being in the middle isnt always right either. Whats reality is whats right. And the reality is, a good case can be made that Garrett's game management at times did cost us some games. That isnt being extreme. Its not being overly critical. Its simply recognizing what actually transpired. Was it 7 games? Its debatable and certain that all wont agree on the number, but there is a number of games.

The pro Garrett Kool Aid drunks wont like that after 12-4 this season. But its not unreasonable IMO. After all, we do have 3 1/2 years of history vs. 12-4 this year. The arrow certainly seems to be pointing up so there is much reason for optimism. But in the back of your mind is that 8-8, 8-8, 8-8 . . . . . . . .

What if we go 8-8 next year? Will the wheels of the Red BandWagon fall completely off? My guess would be we would have a bunch of Salome's wanting Red's head on a platter.

Balance is a helpful tool when there is less than definitive proof one way or the other.

But apparently there is little doubt in your mind as to what is reality in this case. Good for you.

Whether it is 7 or not there is a common perception that he cost us games with his less than stellar game management. Anybody that doesnt recognize that he at least had some shortcomings in that dept. are simply in denial.

You think we lose that GB game with a huge 2nd half lead with a better coach? Or what about the Detroit game everybody likes to bring up? We could bring up others, but the point is we lost games in historical fashion that teams in the league had never lost.

was it worth it to be here now

And just what exactly is definitive proof when it comes to game management in a football game?

Nobody is complaining about this year. Its the 3 years before.

As far as it being worth it, only time will tell on that one. But if we just take the last 4 years, nah, once in a 4 yr span isnt worth 3 years of missing. Ive been watching this team for 40 years and I have higher expectations. Its in my fan DNA as a Cowboys fan.

I respect everyone who is still not 100% sold on Jason Garrett. That may come as a surprise to some people. It shouldn't. There is little doubt in my mind that those who are still not sold 100% are nevertheless behind him and hoping for the best. The reason for the dissatisfaction is entirely due to a lack of early results.

My only issue with those who are not 100% sold on him is why you would still insult him, if you do. That I don't get. It isn't about one year of proving it either. It is about the way he handles his role as Head Coach of the Dallas Cowboys with dignity and respect for the past. What part of that isn't admirable and exactly what we've all been screaming for for years? The one thing some of us disliked about Parcells was that he brought in his Giants and eschewed our Cowboys. I want to emphasize those two words. OUR COWBOYS.

This is not Jerry Jones' team except in ownership. This is our team, our history, our heritage, our legacy, and our passion. No one has respected Tom Landry and the great teams of our past more than Jason Garrett. No one has done more to bring back a pride in our glory days and do things the right way, the Cowboy way. No one.

I do not understand why people would still insult him after we see that with our own eyes. The players do the Landry shift wrong, only one other person has noticed that so far and mentioned it to me, but they do it to honor what being a Dallas Cowboy is supposed to mean. And anyone who does not think the fight in this team is directly due to this man's vision is blind as a bat.

You can have your doubts. Others can too. I respect that, because I know you guys have them because you want what everyone is trying to build here, a champion. Doubts don't bother me. The insults do. Because frankly, the guy no longer deserves them. We got jobbed or we'd be in the Super Bowl next week. Yeah, I said it. We'd have destroyed Seattle in their house again. They could not pull off that comeback against this team. It took a referee with a bogus rule interpretation to stop your Dallas Cowboys. No one respects that rule any more after how badly they see it can be manipulated to steal away a fantastic performance. Like I said, the only people who believe he did not catch the ball are a couple of referees, some trolls, and idiots. The only thing standing between us and a championship now, is a productive off season and another mountain to climb.

I said it, a Champion. We're capable of it, and wouldn't need to deflate footballs to get there. We're going to insult that? We're going to tolerate insults of that? That's what I don't get.

Awesome post. Yes I have to admit I wanted him gone from the beginning and that he got to his position on a silver platter. Im absolutely against him calling plays and the more he stays away from that dept. the better for OUR team.

I have had a bunch of disagreements and heated debates about Garrett. Especially when he got the head coaching position. Now I think about it, its nothing more than hot air and my fears about him was ill conceived. Its not that I don't like him. I think he's a good man. I think its just me wanting to protect my team from harm and I did not like the idea of a so called head coach who never coached before given the full reigns to the Cowboys.

But what you mentioned is correct about Garrett bringing back the tradition of the Cowboys. You can see that when they play its so reminiscent of the Cowboys of the past. They are so well coached like the Landry and Jimmy teams of old. This Cowboys team is the real deal and its vintage Cowboys football.

I have to give it up to Garrett for being able to keep Marinelli and bringing in Linehan to the fold. Here is what Marinelli said about this team:

"I just love it here. I love football and this place, it just reeks with tradition and winning and wanting to win, wanting to be the very, very best. I think that's as exciting as anything."

The word tradition stood out when I read that. Bringing back tradition and the culture is all on Garrett and thus the reason why we got Linehan in here and bought into a run oriented system - and why Marinelli didn't bolt to Tampa - because we have a tradition thats all about winning.

So in conclusion, gotta give it up to Garrett. He was what the Cowboys needed in a coach. He leans onto the tradition and brought back what made us successful in the first place. He's the first coach that can sell the dream to the team, but also to Jerry. That means a lot to us fans because we all know Jerry is not the sharpest GM out there despite him winning some award.

Lastly, I find it ironic that teams like the Niners and the Broncos are in such disarray with their coaching. While the Cowboys look like they have a staff full very good coaches. Who would have imagined that in one year.

I have a ton of respect for this response. That is all I really need to say. Awesome.

Why is that? Because I picked us winning a play-off game at the beginning of the season because of the change in play-calling, because Garrett sucked at it and I was right?

How do you explain how good our offense has been ever since JG was OC?

Just talent?

I look around the league at a lot of teams with talent who aren't getting it done. Chicago and Detroit spring to mind.

I've always thought Garrett's play-calling lacked imagination. He was easy to read as an OC (not that running on first down wasn't easy to read this season). There are things he did well with his scheme, but I didn't see us being able to have the kind of offense we could potentially have with Romo at QB with Garrett's predictabiliy/lack of creativity.

Some of the problems I attributed to him might have been due to the offensive line and lack of running game, but I think he was a contributing factor in that and he's much better as an overseer coach than coordinator.

The weird thing is I still am reading Garrett resentment and grudge holding?
Its pathological if someone can't see an sense the upward trend on this
Garrett led team. Very odd.
