And people talking about Payton respecting Payton.. He abused Parcells 3-4 defense making it look like a hot mess and that set the blueprint for the trouncing Dallas defense then started to take. There was a reason Jerry also went Wade, because Jerry invested a lot of money in it. Payton never let the gas pedal down and totally embarrassed his former coach on live TV. We couldn't stop a basic screen to save our lives. He also exposed our slow MLB Bradie James and Ayodele in the passing game. Wade did a decent job of bandaging that hot mess.

Good God! I remember that game clearly!

And you just knew it was going to be the blueprint on how to beat their defense from there on out.
It was too glaring to ignore.

Don't get me wrong, I agree with everything you're saying. We're talking Garrett vs Wade at HC here. We're just picking our poison. The best D Wade mustered here was in 2009 when he was 2nd in points and 9th in yards. By 2010 we were 31st in points and 23rd in yards. Prior to 2009, we had some improvement on D but it was not enough to justify Wade or add to his status as defensive guru. Just my opinion, but Wade's inability to lead as a HC affected his ability to run the D. I just don't think we got the full benefits of Wade as a DC and we could have done much better.

Grant ham and Bowles also left after 2009. Campo returned and PP moved on up.

Embarrassing... Absolute joke if was so easy to beat this defense... Then Kitna came and talked about how he just targeted Bradie James, who was awful. Wade got the most out of him.

Finished 1-7 and the team quit on him. That SNF game was the end of it. The guy is too soft. Great defensive mind, like Norv, their ceiling is coordinator.

Players on that team liked Wade more than Garrett tbh.
Recent former players like Jesse Holley really dislike Garrett a good deal.
The offense was an issue and Holley has indicated Garrett sabotaged Wade from within.

Wade had us playing at a really high level but they also bottomed out. Too bad really that Garrett turned it around and didn't let that team get a top 3 pick.

I was all for it, and I was wrong. In hindsight he was a great coach for us, Garrett was the problem and is the problem now.

Phillips was an awful Head Coach. He could not even fix the defense. He was horrible. JG is horrible too!!

I liked Wade, but 1-7 was simply unacceptable. The team quit on him and it was extremely painful to watch. They would have gone 1-15 that year.

I am not sure what happened.

Wade won games with the team Bill Parcells built. The team benefited from Wades laid back style the first couple years, but eventually lost their way, along with what Parcells preached. Wade did accomplish more with the Cowboys than Garrett has so far, but even if he stayed I doubt we would be better off at this point.

You know things aren't going well for the Cowboys when you see a thread claiming firing Wade Phillips was a mistake.

so you prefer 8-8 three straight years over to championships and two playoff appearances in three years?

So you're saying firing a coach that had this team at 1-7 wasn't a mistake? 8-8 sounds a lot better than the 1-7 ride we were on. I see the Texans didn't make the mistake in hiring him.

I agree we could have done a lot better. He would have been better off just coaching the D and worry about team matter with a real coach. I swear, why can't we ever get a real coach in Dallas? Would have loved to have Andy Reid here.
