Parcells not happy with Henson's NFLE performance

Your style is played out and boring, go away.....please.
I'm not sure about played out and boring, but it's certainly the dumbest thing I've seen in a long time.

I've given up on trying to figure out Parcells and young players. But it does seem that if he praises a young player that's bad. If he puts them down that's good. Romo has been treated to some pretty harsh words from BP. When he was a rookie his play was called the antithesis of what he wanted. Even last year he said he had regressed or wasn't sharp about mid season. Bledsoe said he learned to tune him out sometimes. With Parcells and QB's actions speak louder than words. I also think Parcells deep down doesn't like QB's any QB all that much.

Parcell was not only motivating Henson, but also Romo and Mroz. He gives Henson a shot that tells him not to get comfortable because Parcells isn't impressed. At the same time it is telling Romo, you better watch out. This guy wants your job and he is getting better. He also let Mroz know that there is hope for him, since Parcells is not satisfied with what he has got.
No different than Skyler Green or Montavious Stanley being told they are too fat.

He doesn't want the players to be comfortable. He wants them to be pushing themselves.

Why that isn't obvious to everyone is beyond me.

I can see it as a motivation thing with Henson, not to mention a tool to see how reacts to public criticism from the coach. Remember even after a blow out Parcells still can find the negatives in the game.

It is a motivational ploy. That is what Coach Parcells does.

What you said, how Henson reacts is the true part of the test.

And per this slice of information, he doesn't do all that well with it:

Criticism surprises Henson

Quarterback Drew Henson said he had gotten nothing but positive reviews about his play in NFL Europe until he heard the comments from Bill Parcells on Friday.

"I was hoping for a little bit more, to tell you the truth," Parcells said of Henson's progress with the Rhein Fire.

Henson, who passed for 10 touchdowns and three interceptions, was surprised by Parcells' assessment but said he had a positive experience.

"I got to play in games week after week, which is what I needed most," Henson said.

I realize this was the reporter's interpretation of his reaction, but if true, why was he surprised?

Henson Finally Home

Drew Henson practiced Friday after returning from NFL Europe two weeks ago, and while his European stint was more than a vacation, Parcells said the third-year quarterback didn't make the progress he was expecting.

"I can't say he made a lot," Parcells said. "I think the experience was good for him and playing in the games was good for him but I was hoping for just a little bit more."

Henson worked with the third-team offense throughout practice.

"I got to play games week after week which is what I think I needed most," Henson said. "It feels like I was gone for a long time ,so it feels good to be back in the States and be working with my team."

Henson injured his knee late in the NFL Europe season but was cleared by doctors to play the final game, and said Friday that the sprained MCL no longer bothers him.

How do you know he isn't talking about the lack of talent around him? How do you know he isn't talking about the level of play in the NFLE this year? How do you know it isn't in reference to sharing half of a game with another quarterback?

The answer, the Answer, is .....................you don't.

Little tip for ya. Fishin' on Sundays suck. Too many anglers.

I would think that Coach Parcells knew that he would be rotating with another QB as it is standard practice over there. And I am pretty sure he knows the talent level over there as well. Give him a little more credit than that.

Stanley showed up at his target weight. We'll have to see what Henson shows in camp, because apparently it wasn't shown in Europe.

I think his surrounding cast hurt. The games I saw he was victimized by some pretty bad drops, but he also stared down his targets too much. I like his leadership in the huddle, but again, he just doesn't look prepared to handle complex coverages and still limits his options to the primary receiver too often. I am guessing that is what Coach Parcells was looking for, but didn't get. Everything else appears to be there.

"There, I DID, HE SUCKED! HAPPY NOW?!"

"Wha-wha-wha Henson was pulled too soon, he wasn't given a shot! Wha-wha-wha!"

"I don't care anymore, he's third string. Get it? Got it? GOOD!"

"Wha-wha-wha this just isn't fair wha-wha-wha just not fair at all. Jerry, do something, pleassssssssssssssssssssssse!!"

"Oh bloody hell, alright Jerry, I'll send his *** to Europe for a summer, zzzzzz... I mean yea, I will."

"WOO-WOO-WOO Henson rocks the world so much in Germany! Did you see?! Did you see?! Did you see?! Omigod he's the greatest thing since sliced bread! Did you see?! Did you see?! The future of our franchise is here, hell yessssssssssss!!!!"

"He sucked it up so damn bad but I'm just not going to say that publically. It's like the whole Quincy thing over again...fragile egos need to be protected. He's not Drew Bledsoe. He's certainly NOT a Troy Aikman. I'm sorry Dallas but it is what it is and this isn't going to happen."

"Based on seeing the press conference it looks like Henson will be contending with Romo for the backup spot this year."

"parcells always plays mind games"

"I can see it as a motivation thing with Henson, not to mention a tool to see how reacts to public criticism from the coach. Remember even after a blow out Parcells still can find the negatives in the game."

"Parcells also said Henson is far better off than he was last season because he got that playing experience. His performance in NFL Europe is irrelevant. His role this season will be determined entirely by what happens between now and September."

"The greats do great things, I saw wut BP said at the press conference. I think he did it on purpose just so that it would get to Henson in a harsh way. Kinda like when they tell u that u suck, and u wanna prove em wrong."

"ROTFlmao" Get it straight people, this was the "motivational tool", him being sent to Europe to prove himself whilst his back was up against the wall. The man said it, he did not live up to expectations. How many chances is one of the most hard-nosed coaches in the history of the game supposed to give this joker clown? All i know is many are you are just asking for way too much. Parcells only has so much patience and time to spend wasting on a project player. Two years and a year in Europe, this very well could be it for Henson, and in my opinion, it should be, nuff said.

Exactly the point. Parcells does and says these things to get responses from the players. he's saying he wants more from Henson. That's the right thing to be saying. If he said he's right where he wants him to be, the kid gets complacent and loses the edge.

As a Psyche Major I'm sure you have a better understanding of it than I do, but it's clearly a motivational tool. It works. As you said, Stanley showed up 4 weeks later in much better shape.

On the :money: Hos.

The exact point I was just going to make. This is the same tatic BP has used the entire time he has been here. Why some can't see that is surprising to me. Then again, those who can't probably can't see the forest becasue all the damn trees are in the way.

Trees are agendas. Some need to be chopped down.

Parcells has high expectations for Henson. The key is he made progress, he did improve. But personally, i kindof wanted to see just a little bit more from Henson too.

heh, we can do "this" all day long. and zrin, my friend, saying we'll "never" be happy is kinda a stretch. when TO leaves, there'll be dancing in the streets to many fans. it's just the way it works.

Hos, I agree with you on your point completely. But I looked at it in another way, too. If he comes out and says Henson is all great and is ready to play then that only creates pressure on his boy, Bledsoe, whether Henson is ready or not. He does not want to create any qb controversies where none exists. What do you think the press would do if he even hinted that he was happy with Henson's progress???

Bill said something at the first press conference that intrigued me. He said he had watched all but two of Henson's games in Europe. Why? If he has already written him off, why bother? Obviously he sees something or he wouldn't waste his time.

Anyway what difference does it make in the long run? Bill is probably only going to be here for this year and Bledsoe is going to play unless he is hurt and it won't matter who plays then. It only matters in future years and Jerry is NOT going to get rid of Henson.

In some cases I saw more than expected, i.e. when things broke down, the way he improvised. But at the same time, I do agree, there were times I did expect more from him. But I guess when you have very high expectations from a player, you tend to get dissappointed when they don't achieve that to your expectation level.

Much like I was about Ware last year. Or Roy since his second year. Or Flozell Adams etc.

But wait, Henson is this team's future, the organization is crazy about him, and he can do no wrong, even while playing very average football against guys who have no business playing football at ANY pro level.
