They do, but I can say Parnell is considered a better player going forward because he got twice what Free did. Overpayment by the Jags and Free giving a discount doesn't account for Free getting half what Parnell did. Its a competitive bidding process and those two factors can account for 10%, 20%, event 30%. But not a contract that is 100% more for a player that half this forum was saying wasn't even a starter in the NFL.

Value is in the eye of the beholder... The Cowboys FO got what they wanted.
Parnell got what he wanted. Everybody's happy so no worries.

In this market that appears to be a bargain. If an aging player (Free) with 2 ankle surgeries in a 1 year time span can get 5M per, then Parnell is easily worth 6.5M. By the end of 2015 there will be no question about who is the better player; although, Parnell won't get national recognition playing in Jax.

Also, Parnell can play LT whereas Free was a disaster at LT.

LOL

Beautiful.

the parnell haters are really butt hurt right now. I did not expect that Parnell would basically get twice what Free got.

$6 million guaranteed vs $13 guaranteed. And that is where the real money is in todays NFL contracts.

OK, but you equally can't say that because the Jaguars grossly overpaid that Parnell is somehow a better player.

The Cowboys kept the player they wanted to at the preferred rate. They deserve credit for that.
The Cowboys likely could have signed either for less if they had done it last season.

You can say that, sure. And maybe you believe it. But the rest of us don't.

But you're not factoring in Free wanting to be here and not moving, as well as playing for a contender in a big market rather than obscurity.

Teams overpay for OK players with bad contracts all the time.

Parnell got 13M guaranteed on a 5 year, 32M deal.

Free got 6M guaranteed on a 3 year, 15M deal.

XWalker was right on who the better player is going forward.

Let's take a look at Carr's contract...

WE HAVE ONE OF THE BEST CBs IN THE LEAGUE!!! WOOOOOOOO

Possibly, but we'll never know.

Will you still be a Cowboys fan after this or is your heart now in Jacksonville?

no you WANT it to be true- does not mean it is. We will see this coming season if Parnell is as good as his contract says he is.

Good for Parnell. I think his relative inexperience and "upside" helps him tremendously as a free agent.

The guy basically learned how to play football 6-7 years ago and turned that into 6-7 mil/year contract. Congrats!

The people who said Parnell wasn't capable of starting - until he did and got a huge contract - don't believe it?

The Parnell issue was about my belief that most fans don't really study game footage, especially not of players that don't have the ball in their hands.

I'll move on to somebody like Wilcox that fans underrate.

Absolutely, I'm sure Free took less money and Parnell was overpaid. But that doesn't account for Parnell getting twice as much money. If Free was as good as this Forum makes him (and not the injury risk this Forum ignores) his agent would have gotten him a bigger contract with more money guaranteed.

I'm not beating a dead horse, I mostly think its funny that XWalker had to listen to so many people say Parnell completely sucked and when Parnell gets twice as much guaranteed money no one can acknowledge he was right on Parnell's development.

I don't think we know all the factors. Was Free even interested in going elsewhere? It doesn't seem that he was based on him signing a contract before he could even start talking to other teams. Was Dallas even interested in possibly keeping Parnell over Free? Maybe, but it doesn't seem like it. The Cowboys have always shown a preference for Free over Parnell that could be because of anything from trust to believing he's the better player.

Obviously, I'm not on board with those who say Parnell completely sucked, but I don't think we can take what the Jags paid him compared to what Free got to say it means that Parnell is going to become the type of player some of us believe he can be. Jacksonville is paying him because he proved to be solid as a backup, doesn't have much wear and tear and probably can develop into more than that, but right now, the Jags paid more for a lesser player based on his play compared to Free's in the starting role.

As I've said before, I would have kept Parnell for the same reasons Jacksonville signed him, but I think it's silly to say anyone was right on Parnell's development when we don't know if he'll develop beyond this point, which is good enough to be a starter but nothing more.

Like we said, we're happy for Parnell...He got his starter's money now he just has to keep it every week.
Good luck with that?
