The bottom line is Parsons is an elite pass rusher and has been since day 1.
If anyone thinks missing training camp will make him less effective as a pass rusher or less effective as a run defender, you’re wrong. He will always be an elite pass rusher and a liability vs the run.
He will play this season because he is under contract to earn 24 million. That’s more than 1.4 million per game. And we all know Jerry can franchise tag him next year for 28 million if he wants. Personally, I wouldn’t pay him yet.
Today, Jerry is in the driver’s seat. He could have saved money by extending Parsons last year or even at the end of the season. Now the best rushers have signed and set the market. Parsons’ pay is not going to escalate much between now and next summer. But now, at this point, I’d wait. 1. I save money this year. 2. I get to see where my team is with Sam Williams and EZ. Neither will be Parsons, but if they both play great, Jerry can resign Parsons next summer or consider franchising him and seeking a trade.
Jerry should have signed Parsons a long time ago. At this point, signing him to 40 million per year only makes Parsons happy, but it’s not necessary.
