I agree with you. Trust me. I see your point. It just gets complicated when we're dealing with generational talents. Besides that, I think they can structure a contract that wouldn't be so different than letting him play out the contract and 5th year option. I've seen it before. As I've mentioned, Zeke is one of them. Why bother risking the disgruntled player?
Complicated for sure. Parsons is a game changer. He basically fixed what was a historically bad defense overnight. I am sure we will pay him out. I just hope that he can continue to play at this level for the life of his contract and that we can find enough low cost talent to fill out the roster around him and win.

He plays too hard.
They all do that when they are trying to get the first big contract. What should worry every Cowboys fan is whether or not he will continue competing at that level after he gets paid. Zeke regressed and Dak made numerous empty promises that he hasn't come close to fulfilling. Jerry is going to massively overpay Parsons and cripple the team even further, we all know that day is coming.

Have doubts Parsons is only in this for the money? Read his tweet in this article.... https://athlonsports.com/nfl/look-m...r Micah Parsons, annual salary of $4.3 million.

My only concern is how his body holds up over the next few years.
He'll be fine. Once he gets paid he will slack off and preserve whatever is left in the tank.

Is he a LBer or an Edge? It matters......Stephen Jones has often said he will never set the market. Parsons's next contract could significantly change that .........

He's got a 2 or 3 years left before we have to sign him......let's see if his body can put up with the beatings he takes every week. My guess is he will wear down at this pace....if the Cowboys want him here for the next 10 years, they need to be smarter on how they play him.

The thing is you have 1 year left to decide. He will hold out after next year as he should. Honestly not even sure why he would show up for this year. He is getting paid about 25 million less than he should right now.

I 100% agree with you on how he is used. Especially if you pay him a massive deal. Do everything you can to keep him fresh for the long haul.

Picture having a choice between the following:

Gilmore, Wilson, Kearse, Cooks and two first round draft picks.

Parsons.

IMHO this is pretty realistic in terms of what the Parsons contract will look like. We really need to take advantage and win this year.

I'm soooo not emotionally prepared to talk Micah's contract. Please.
I’ve already seen fans on this board that want to trade him because they don’t want to pay anyone. Parsons, Diggs and CeeDee would be gone when they’re up for their contracts if it was up to some Cowboys fans.

We keep him throughout his 4 year contract.
We activate his 5th year option.
We use the Franchise tag on him for a 6th year on the top 5 average which keeps him below the top guys. If we haven’t won anything after having him for 6 years, let him walk. I know that’s crazy to some fans, but why set the market with a guy who is likely going to start breaking down between years 7-10. You’d be paying him for the past instead of the future.

He is entering his 3rd year. We don’t have to do anything but the 5th year option and one franchise tag to control his rights through 2027.

It isn't a matter of not wanting to pay someone. It is a matter of choice. If I offered you the following in a vacuum what would you pick:

25 million to spend on players and 2 first round picks.

25 million to spend on one player.

I realize this is a pretty abstract concept but a player on a team friendly deal is a positive force in the pursuit of winning football. The exact same player on a player friendly deal is a negative force in the pursuit of wining football. I did not create the system but I am willing to accept the reality of it. I want the Dallas Cowboys to win and as such when it comes to contracts I want every Dallas Cowboy player to lose.

I have said this before and I know that it falls on deaf ears but I will repeat it again. Lets say Parsons is given the largest defensive contract in the NFL. That means he has to be the defensive player of the year just to become net neutral in terms of his contribution to winning.
it's not abstract. everyone understands it. it falls on deaf ears because people disagree especially when it come to a player like parsons. if you're accepting reality, then you also accept that teams adhere to market circumstances and work around unavoidable mega deals rather than avoid them with elite players.

if that tweet was proof that he was only in it for the money, we'd see him working to become a qb lol. that's silly. i have no clue what the future holds, but micah seems to have an extreme competitive nature. money is coming regardless, legacy will not.

You're absolutely right. This is not a plyer you want to mess with. If I'm the GM, I do what you suggested with Lamb. Pay Diggs, pay Parsons, let Lamb play out his 5th year option and hit the road. He's got less leverage than the generational talent Parsons is. We can try to replace lamb in 3 years. Much easier than replacing Parsons.

A lot of fans don’t want one player taking up a big percentage of the cap. They would rather opt for a cheaper option, even if it’s a lesser player. They would rather sign two or three players rather than give all that money to one player, even if it’s a great player. You’re not going to have any chance of winning a championship if you void your team of great players.

I think they realize they are dealing with a different kind of cat in Parsons. He would just as soon go play for a PA team, if the money is right.

They can 5th year option him and then go tag but they better tag him as a DE.

Are the Cowboys built to have one of the highest paid D players in the league and still have their offensive stars? They have always been out of balance to the offense with money.

Parsons agent will go in and say he doesnt give one damn if they try to say he is a LB. Parsons has a mouth on him that never stops and talks about everyone's contracts from other teams... Parsons is going to want to be the highest paid defender in the league. Put that in the bank
