Right. Just like Witten and Frank Gore were 3rd round talents. Players drop in the draft for various reasons. It doesn't make them any less valuable.

Oh so now you are going to compare witten and gores play to watkins play. :lmao2:

Hers an exercise:

Which player played closest to their draft status their rookie year?:

A) Frank Gore
B) Pat Watkins
C) Jason Witten

if it walks like a duck.... quacks like a duck....

oh thats nice this is because you say so i take it. i remember all i heard about how much potential rob had because pettiti stonewalled freeney in college. what has watkins ever done other than miss reads in college and the pros?

I don't know why you keep bringing up college like that means a flip

and LOL if some posters tricked you into believing Pettiti was this talented OT, that's your fault for being naive

Are you really this dense? Where did I compare Watkins NFL play to Witten and Gore?

This is the last time I respond to you because I think you're slightly nuts.

Most of this board is subjective opinions. Mine is that Watkins played better as the year went on and that he played better than Keith Davis. Still may not be good play, but an improvement from very poor play against Philly and NY early in the season.

Davis may be done now that Hamlin is signed. I would prefer to keep Hamlin, Watkins, Elam and one more guy over keeping Davis. I was for giving Davis getting a shot a couple of years ago. He got it and shown not to be too good.

heres an idea go watch the atlanta game. you know the one at the end of the season. actually go and look at the three long passes vick made specifically the rod white 52 yarder and pay attention to what Watkins did and come back and tell me his play improved.

I remember back in the Campo days we sued to talk about how players like Ernie Mills, Dimitrius Underwood, Mike Myers, Peppi Zellner, Kareem Larrimore, that CB Frazier, Robert Thomas, Troy Hambrick and a whole slew of others were good enough to start.

you cannot have probowlers at every position we were told. Watkins is just carrying on this fine cowboys tradition. :puke:

BS. he was benched because he played like he didnt deserve to play in this league. He was benched because he sucked not because he was a 5th rounder.

That is NOT why he was benched. He was benched because he was mentally shaken after he blew coverage twice in one game. He was benched becasue BP didn't want a rookie out there that wasn't ready for the pressure. It's been widely said by many DB's that one of the most important traits to have at their position is a short memory...Watkins didn't have that. If he had it, he wouldn't have come out of the starting line up. BP would have let him sort through it himself on the field. This was not a reflection that he wasn't as good a FS as Davis or any other transient we brought in. With the exception of a few games, Watkins played some decent football...as a rookie FS.

He won the starting job as a 5th round rookie in practices for a reason...he has more talent and was the better player. He lost it because his head wasn't right. He got it back because he improved. If he can translate his potential to the field, he can play FS in the NFL. Your anti-Watkins agenda isn't the end-all be-all last word of our FS dilemma.

What is the answer? Seems like all three guys played up their draft status their respective rookie seasons. Gore and Witten had higher expectations based on being 3rd round picks. Witten really did little his rookie season. Many rookies don't shine, especially 5th rounders.

Gore and Witten made a huge leap in production from the rookie seasons to their 2nd years. Maybe Watkins can do the same.

I like how you took just the Atlanta game to judge Watkins the latter part of the year. There were other games that he played in as well. I am not proclaiming him a HOFer, but it was clear the guy was better later in the season than he was in the first. I will say it again, that it is still just a relative comparison.

:lmao2: you missed the point, not suprisingly, he only brought them up to show you that some players drop for reasons only NFL teams know of, even though they were highly regarded at one time before the draft, hell, Witten was thought by many to be a late-1st round pick

everyone from the reasonable posters on this forum to Darren Woodson, think Watkins has to talent to be something if he's allowed to develop

He was not metally prepared to play the game translates to he played well?

Dear lord you people will say just about anything. He wasnt just failing to make a play the few times he wa in position or getting toasted 1 on 1. he was also regularly missing reads.

and wow he has more 'talent' than Keith Davis..... thats saying alot.

when have you ever ever heard Woody ever say anything negaive about any player. hes a constructive leader and those reasonable posters are about 6 or 7 of you that have been spewing these misrepresentations for months. i have argued this for weeks now and its the same 7 of you every single time.

and again appealing to popularity is a gross fallacy. just becuase a belief is popular does not make it true.

theres not just one. hers an idea since I and several others have detailed about 10 plays that were just horrible how aobut you guys anme all these great plays he has made. I certainly hear a bunch of general stuff but NEVER any specifics.

i know two of his picks were not his doing. one was ayodele tipping it that he wa lucky to go his way as he was about 10 feet from the play and the other Roy just ran into the reciever in the end zone. So really where are all these plays he made?

I dont see any comparison really...Watkins just needs more time and reps...he has outstanding physical skills

Petitti was a try hard guy with no real talent for the position
