FuzzyLumpkins;1433116 said:oh thats nice this is because you say so i take it. i remember all i heard about how much potential rob had because pettiti stonewalled freeney in college. what has watkins ever done other than miss reads in college and the pros?
Are you really this dense? Where did I compare Watkins NFL play to Witten and Gore?FuzzyLumpkins;1433122 said:Oh so now you are going to compare witten and gores play to watkins play.
Hers an exercise:
Which player played closest to their draft status their rookie year?:
A) Frank Gore
B) Pat Watkins
C) Jason Witten
if it walks like a duck.... quacks like a duck....
joseephuss;1433117 said:Most of this board is subjective opinions. Mine is that Watkins played better as the year went on and that he played better than Keith Davis. Still may not be good play, but an improvement from very poor play against Philly and NY early in the season.
Davis may be done now that Hamlin is signed. I would prefer to keep Hamlin, Watkins, Elam and one more guy over keeping Davis. I was for giving Davis getting a shot a couple of years ago. He got it and shown not to be too good.

This is the last time I respond to you because I think you're slightly nuts.

FuzzyLumpkins;1433103 said:BS. he was benched because he played like he didnt deserve to play in this league. He was benched because he sucked not because he was a 5th rounder.

FuzzyLumpkins;1433147 said:no but you compared witten and gores relative talent level to watkins.
im not crazy you just cannot keep up.
FuzzyLumpkins;1433132 said:heres an idea go watch the atlanta game. you know the one at the end of the season. actually go and look at the three long passes vick made specifically the rod white 52 yarder and pay attention to what Watkins did and come back and tell me his play improved.
joseephuss;1433153 said:What is the answer? Seems like all three guys played up their draft status their respective rookie seasons. Gore and Witten had higher expectations based on being 3rd round picks. Witten really did little his rookie season. Many rookies don't shine, especially 5th rounders.
Gore and Witten made a huge leap in production from the rookie seasons to their 2nd years. Maybe Watkins can do the same.
I like how you took just the Atlanta game to judge Watkins the latter part of the year. There were other games that he played in as well. I am not proclaiming him a HOFer, but it was clear the guy was better later in the season than he was in the first. I will say it again, that it is still just a relative comparison.
tomson75;1433151 said:That is NOT why he was benched. He was benched because he was mentally shaken after he blew coverage twice in one game. He was benched becasue BP didn't want a rookie out there that wasn't ready for the pressure. It's been widely said by many DB's that one of the most important traits to have at their position is a short memory...Watkins didn't have that. If he had it, he wouldn't have come out of the starting line up. BP would have let him sort through it himself on the field. This was not a reflection that he wasn't as good a FS as Davis or any other transient we brought in. With the exception of a few games, Watkins played some decent football...as a rookie FS.
He won the starting job as a 5th round rookie in practices for a reason...he has more talent and was the better player. He lost it because his head wasn't right. He got it back because he improved. If he can translate his potential to the field, he can play FS in the NFL. Your anti-Watkins agenda isn't the end-all be-all last word of our FS dilemma.
Bob Sacamano;1433160 said:everyone from the reasonable posters on this forum to Darren Woodson, think Watkins has to talent to be something if he's allowed to develop
FuzzyLumpkins;1433167 said:when have you ever ever heard Woody ever say anything negaive about any player. hes a constructive leader and those reasonable posters are about 6 or 7 of you that have been spewing these misrepresentations for months. i have argued this for weeks now and its the same 7 of you every single time.
and again appealing to popularity is a gross fallacy. just becuase a belief is popular does not make it true.
tomson75;1433157 said:I can find a crap play by every one of our starting players...should we get rid of all of them too?
