Hamlin signed a one year deal so the youngster has all the opportunity he needs to prove he belongs, if he can't cut it it will show. He'll have this camp, this season and likely next camp to prove he can be a starter for the Cowboys.

Watkins is not another Petitti.

Hamlin is likely another Fabini.

Well then.. L. Davis is likely another Rivera...only different.

Probably so.

He was a washout for the 'Hawks.

Looks like Davis is going to be fighting for the #2 spot at FS.

My money is on Watkins. He played well after he regained the starting job.

Form your own opinions all you wish. Just don't cry when they are marked for what they are: Inferior to a guy's who actually knows what he's talking about.

And, yes I'm speaking of a #1 OVERALL selection that had, comparably, a worse rookie season than Watkins (who was selected in the 5th round). The learning curve for FS in the NFL is no cakewalk. They are called the QB of the defense for a reason.

Oh wow the i know what I am talking about and you dont defense. That sure gets them every time now doesnt it. Ad hominem at its finest.

First of all in the entire history of the nfl you can count on one hand the number of QBs that have come in and succeeded in their first season.Safeties on the other hand are a completely different story. For example our very own Ken Hamlin, a second round pick, came in his rookie year and excelled. The two are apples and oranges. I really do think its good that you guys are finally admitting that Watkins was awful last season however. But resorting to this?

Furthermore in our defense it is the MLB that calls the plays in the huddle and if you think that Watkins was out there telling people to line up.... Well lets just say thats funny. Regardless of all that I wasnt saying it was his leadership skills that are in question. It is more like his coverage skills and recognition which he was putrid at.

Well lets look a bit deeper at the 'Aikamn sucked too so Watkins will be a hall of famer too' argument. Lets just say I admit that youre right --which I dont by the way,-- and say that Watkins indeed will have a learning curve similar to aikman. According to you guys Aikman was worse his second season so that mean as bad as Watkins was last year he will be worse next year. And then to boot we have to wait 4 years for him to play at a high level because as you guys say Watkins = Aikman. Well if this were true it still wouldnt be worth doing because our defense would be hamstrung for the next three years.

But I dont gran the argument its ignorant quite frankly. If it wre true every player who sucked should just be allowed to play for four years even if they continue to suck and we all know that is not true just like we all know that the two are incomparable.

Im 6'4" and I dont hate him being on the team he just needs a lot of work before I want him starting. he was the worst player on our defense last season. At least James was good up until the Saints game.

And i really wouldnt be so animated about it if wasnt for all the people saying he played well at the end of last year. Propaganda is bad enough but worse when their flat out lies.

If you have a problem with Watkins play, then you should bench Roy Williams. Replace him please, he gave up more touch downs then Watkins and Davis combined. I'm glad you're getting all the attention you deserve, maybe that'll make you fell better.

I'm done arguing with a child.

Wow more maturity smack. Stupid is stupid whether it be 5 or 55 years fo age. And can you please provide some link or proof that Roy gave up more TDs?

I cant wait til Joyner finishes his work so we can see how bad Watkins truly was.

There you go ladies and gentleman! Anything else is wrong, right, Fuzzy!

Give em hell, Fuzzy...don't let them brow beat you out of YOUR OWN OPINION! "Argue" them all day long...in the end...YOUR OWN OPINION is what is the most important, and what is right, ******!

Get after em, Fuzzy...you got them all backed into a corner now! Deliver the knock out punch, big guy!

Ahh how could i forget to put yopu on ym fan club? I must say you are my favorite poster here. :banghead:

Regardless, once again you completely misquote me. Thtat was in reference to the everyone agrees that Watkins is great so were right argument,b ut hey thats what I like about you: you just make stuff up.

If you can provide any shred of evidence to contrary my position then I will change my view but its just that the Watkins = Aikman thing just isnt very compelling. Im not so ironheaded that I wont change my mind but you guys provide nothing to change my mind. I thought for example that the Jags had a better passrush than the Seahawks but Summer proved me wrong and hey i admit it but this tripe? Cmon..

First of all, I was speaking of Darren Woodson's opinion. Not my own. Try and keep up there, Mr. Wizard. Here's the quote from the article:

As far as Woodson is concerned, Hamlin is just a bigger Keith Davis, a guy who can give you what you want playing in the box against the run but with limited coverage skills. Certainly not a guy who can jump into the slot in coverage nor be left in a whole lot of single-safety high coverage while Williams prowls around underneath.

For Woodson's money, Watkins is the guy.

"He has more upside than any safety out there," Woodson said. "They just need to give him time. He was a rookie, and he made some rookie mistakes."

This is not to say Watkins is the next Woodson. But let's face it, Watkins was but a fifth-round draft choice, and the Cowboys asked him to start nine games this year, along with one in the playoffs. That's a lot of responsibility for a 23-year-old kid. Woodson, a second-round pick, started two games his rookie season, and he went on to five Pro Bowl appearances.

But the Cowboys should remember they made a nine-start investment in Watkins, and really, when he regained his starting job the final three games of the season he looked much more comfortable out there and his play vastly improved.

"They just got to tell him, 'You are the quarterback of the defense and you got to become more vocal,'" Woodson said of Watkins. "It doesn't matter that Aaron Glenn is out there or Terence Newman or Roy Williams. He has to take over and line guys up." End quote.

So why don't you call up Woodson and wow him with your prowess of pro football knowledge. I'm sure you could teach him a thing or two. Make sure to remind him of who the quarterback of the defense is.

Second of all, no one compared Aikman to Watkins. Aikman's rookie shortcomings were brought up to illustrate the stupidity of your "past performance" philosophy after a rookie year of pro football. It's painfully obvious that comprehension isn't one of your strong suits.

That is all.

Please explain to me where i was talking about anyones opinion in that post. i was talking about the Watkins = aikman argument and im glad to see youve realized how dumb it was.

As for Woodson that is great he likes him but appealing to popularity is a fallacy and not a way to base an argument. So you go ahead and be a sheep and ill think for myself. I think it bodes well that Woody thinks Watkins can get better lord knows he needs to but i will quote some one else, Wade Phillips at the Hamlin presser.

"We were looking for someone that could handle roaming the middle." He was saying that we dont have anyone that can. or more specifically Watkins cannot handle roaming the middle.
