Patriots broke rules

I wonder how high. Which is worse for the NFL? Cheating? Or thugism?

Edit: They still have two first rounders don't they?
In my mind this is worse. The Timberwolves got caught cheating and it really cost them. Of course this isn't the NBA.

I still think it needs to be a harsh shot. Salary cap room reduced, draft picks lost, etc.

I think forfeit is not likely.

Unfortunately the disconnect between what SHOULD be worse and what they actually treat as worse has already been made evident. Goodell has an opportunity to correct that.

They can't and won't do anything about the games already played, but they BETTER yank some draft picks. That's the only way to really hurt them.

I think the punishment should be severe. They should forfeit multiple draft picks and be declared ineligible for the playoffs this season. From the reports, this incident isn't their first offense.

And do it to one of his employers.:D

Pats appeared to have violated NFL rules during the Jets game and this wasn't apparently the first time Pats have done so. Last year Green Bay complained to NFL about the Pats last year. Some people have called the Pats the class of the NFL.

Now the truth comes out. Will be real interesting to see what Goodell decides to do and/or if he accepts Pats apology that they didn't knowingly violate NFL rules and won't do it again.

I hope he comes down hard on them. After all, he suspended Wade Wilson which also meant the Cowboys get punished even though Wilson was working for the Bears at the time.

He could fine them maybe $1M against the cap, take away 1 or more picks in 08, suspend the Pat official who suspected of ordering the video taping, etc., including something even more serious. Hope he orders the Pats to forfeit the game to the Jets but that's severe and probably isn't going to happen but it might be the only thing to get Belicheck's attention cause you gotta know he's behind it.

This is going to be a true test of Goodell's policy that NFL front office types are to be held to the highest standard of all. If hes true to his word they should get the hammer.

Well on the bright side for Brady maybe if they are excused from the playoffs he can spend time with his babies and his babies mommas, you know he's quite the family man once you get past the GQ covers.

Brady should have to give up a child. God knows he has enough.

I think they should be banned from having anyone up in the booth for the rest of the season. They cant steal signals from their own sideline and that would send them a message.

I agree, and if this is swept under the carpet you can bet I'll be trying to get Ms. Hunter to patch me through to Roger.

:p:

The pessimist in me thinks that the Pats will get a slap on the wrist and lose a 6th round pick or something close to that.
However, Goodell has been dropping the hammer on players so hopefully he steps up here and does something to send a strong statement, particlularly since the Pats have been caught time and time again.

This is the first time I heard of them using cameras, what were the other times.
I hope it involved one of Brady's baby's mommas.

They should make NE forfeit the game against the Jets. I know they will not do that but the way I see if a team knowing is cheating to win a game that win should be taken away from them.

Yes. I agree. The game was close for a little while.

On the radio frequencies, were the Pats intercepting the Jets signals?

well im not particularly fond of Goodell's draconian regime but if hes not consistent ill hate him that much more.

Ms Hunter may ease the pain though.

It sounds like either that or using more than the NFL allotted amount.

I'm not sure taking away a draft pick is enough. I was reading on one of the Pats fan forum that they wouldn't care if a pick was taken cause they'd just go out in FA and sign the needed player. Maybe a pick is taken away, given to the Jets instead and/or severe fine against the Pats cap.

If Goodell acts, I suspect he might talk to one of the owners' commissions to see how the other owners feel about what the Pats allegedly have done.

This could actually be more serious then some might think. Nothing is more important then the integrity of the game. If it appears this action harms the NFL's reputation or the game's integrity, Goodell will come down on the Pats like a ton of bricks. On the other hand, they probably get nothing more then a slap on the wrist -- if that much.
