Patriots fans nervous about Romo's landing spot

I'd root for Tony as long as he didn't play us. I don't even like Denver but I rooted for them last year because of Ware and Wade.

Yeah, the fact that I live in Denver might have something to do with it. LOL. The city is a great place to be when the Broncos win a SB! And if Romo is leading the way, count me in.

I think if he leaves next season (And I believe he's likely to do so) that it will be to Denver.

John Elway will bank on another older, experienced, quality QB getting them another Superbowl ring while they find out if Lynch is their future or if they need to go back to the drawing board and draft another guy.

I also bet its Denver. He would be very dangerous there.

The NFC East plays the AFC West next season I believe. Would be NFL TV heaven if they can get Romo playing against the Cowboys.

Edit: The NFC East would be playing the NFC West as well so if the Cards are the landing spot then Romo versus his old team would happen then as well.

Out of respect and a way to say thank you, I would release him and let him chose the team he wanted to play for.
No way should they do that. I'm guessing the Cowboys don't want Romo to play in the NFC, and definitely not in the NFC East. Local radio here in DC spent a good hour yesterday talking about "If the skins don't re-sign Cousins, would you be open to bringing in Romo?" Ahhhhh!! My worst nightmare. No, no, no, no, no!

If Romo is leaving, please trade him to an AFC team. Thanks in advance Mr Jones!

Oh I totally agree. Like I mentioned in another thread, I wouldn't be shocked if teams just wait for his release.
The key word involving whether Tony will be released or cut can be found in the word "teamS", IMO. Note the letter at the end of the word "team"...there's an "S" there...which means plural. Tony can only go to ONE team not several teams. If teams wait for him to be cut, they will risk losing him to other teams. If any one of them can get him via trade, there is no battle...they have him. Now the key question really is whether there will be multiple teams desiring him as their QB. I tend to think there will be, but have no way of knowing for sure. At any rate, if teams are willing to wait for him to be cut, they're willing to risk that they won't get him at all, and I tend to think that at least one team that would want him would rather not take a chance of losing him to somebody else. I guess it depends on how desperate they are for a quality QB and whether they view him as the guy that can get them to the Promised Land. If he's still on our roster as the draft approaches, and I highly expect that he will be, that'll be the sign that JJ is holding out for a draft pick or two. If that doesn't pan out, then JJ will release him out of pure respect (and cap relief). We'll find out in a few months.

They're all ready thinking about next year? I guess they're winning the superbowl this year.o_O
No, WE'RE thinking about next year. I've not read or heard anything from the Cowboys organization on this topic, and we won't until next spring.

Teams "figured" that before too, and paid the price when they were proven wrong about it. If Romo hit the open market, certain teams that could have traded for him would have little or no chance of signing him.
I posted something similar before getting to your post. I can't help but believe that at least one team would be willing to give something to ensure they acquire his services. One thing did just cross my mind, though. Although it is illegal, we all know that agents go through the back door all the time in trying to get their players the best deal/ideal situation. His agent could have a guarantee with a particular team in place and nobody would know about it. I don't think that'll be the case here, but it could happen.

Not a chance in the world. You don't cut Top 5 quarterbacks.

Sadly there is very much a chance we won't find a trading partner

Consider the constraints:
-Romo won't agree to go to any team that isn't a contender...
-Many teams are happy with their quarterback
-A trading partner would need ample free salary space and the willingness to use it
-A trading partner would need to be motivated for immediate results and be ok with a brief window
-A trading partner would need to take on considerable risks with Romo's age and injury history

And if there aren't TWO suitors for a trade...the Cowboys have zero leverage. The team that wants him may just wait for him to get cut.

Interesting.

Romo has been overly criticized for years by some people. He's no longer the starter but wants to play as a starter. One option being speculated is Denver but seemingly some people feel that he "shouldn't be allowed" to go outside the division and outside the conference because he might defeat Dallas down the road?

So not only did some people want him to lose the job he's dreamed of landing--and did--but some people don't want him to seek his dream OUTSIDE the NFC East and OUTSIDE the NFC?

The guy cannot, literally, catch a break with some people. Selfishness knows no limits. The funny thing is that some people have always said Romo can't win in the playoffs, which begs the question...

If he "can't" win in the playoffs what does it matter which team he goes to next?

What is WRONG with some people?
Well said. I've also seen a couple of Romo haters declaring that we should hold out for a first round pick in a trade for him. On one hand, they claim he can't read defenses, but on the other hand believe we should get a number 1 for him...kinda crazy

I just posted on this. But why we move him to denver? Too risky IMO. I would move him if that's the outcome to a non contender. Don't want romo coming back to beat you when it counts. Especially with a team like denver. Do they even have the cap?
Romo will at least to some degree have to approve the trade.
They need him on board to make it work right.

With Wade commanding the defense in Denver and the ability to create TOs and Romo lighting it up on offense, Denver automatically shoots up to contender number 1..
No brainer for sure.
Houston would be tough too, but not like Denver.

Romo is going to the Jets and they'll be the first team in a long time other than the Patriots to win the AFC East.

Sam Bradford has an injury history like Romo, and he drew a 1st rounder. Nick Foles, Aaron Brooks, Mark Brunell, Matt Flynn, Matt Hasselback....

Teams that are ready to win now buy simply need a QB will overpay. Their window is too small to wait on a QB to develop.

There will be multiple suitors. Denver, Arizona, NY Jets, Minnesota, Chicago, Buffalo, Jacksonville, maybe even Houston.

But don't write him off here yet. Unless Dak takes this team deep into the playoffs and plays well to the end, there will be a lingering question. They have forever with Dak still.

Brock Osweiler is wasting the career of DeAndre Hopkins
Houston would have the best young WR group he's probably ever played with. Hopkins, Fuller, Miller, Strong. Plus a good RB and decent line. And a very good defense with a superstar returning in 2107,

I want him to compete with Dak next year for the starting job, Dak is good but Romo is great and I think he deserves the shot. Next year, there is no guarantee Dak performs at this level next year coming in or would even beat Romo out head to head. We can't go wrong with both here and Romo is 2-3 years from going in his own.

When it comes to cap space, I wouldn't be surprised if Tony were willing to rework his deal to accommodate a trade because he won't likely command a high dollar deal as a FA. I believe he has about a $14M base next year. He would probably be willing to lower that just a little. I have no right to think that he should do that, but down inside, I think he would.
