I think it's interesting people assume he'll be traded.. They had just as much respect for Ware and he was released. He already had a deal with Denver in place.

I've been wrong alot lately (lol), but put me in the camp that he'll be a designated June 1 cut and released before the next league year.
I think the odds are he will be released and a trade is probably just a dream. But sure would be nice to add a pick, especially from a team like the jets who will pick high in every round. But probably more of a dream than reality

When it comes to cap space, I wouldn't be surprised if Tony were willing to rework his deal to accommodate a trade because he won't likely command a high dollar deal as a FA. I believe he has about a $14M base next year. He would probably be willing to lower that just a little. I have no right to think that he should do that, but down inside, I think he would.

Its 14MM in 2017 and 19.5 in 2018, 20.5 in 2019. If push comes to shove Romo will restructure because none of those salaries are guaranteed and he could be cut outright to eliminate all of it.

Even if Romo had been completely healthy this year and lead the team to a Super Bowl, he still would have been restructuring the remaining years of his contract.

The Texans should end the Osweiler experiment and take Romo.

How about an all Texas Super Bowl for the 2017 season with Romo as their starting QB?

i don't know much about who's coming in from the 2017 draft class, but what i do know is that tony romo's don't grow on trees. and teams that need a new qb are going to be picking from romo, cousins and glennon. romo is going to be a red hot commodity and anything can happen.

Thanks for adding some good info. I don't know a whole lot about cap maintenance, but my belief is that he will either restructure in order to accommodate a trade (which would lower his cap hit (if I understand the process correctly), or be designated a June 1 cut, which will divide his hit over 2017 and 2018.

I just posted on this. But why we move him to denver? Too risky IMO. I would move him if that's the outcome to a non contender. Don't want romo coming back to beat you when it counts. Especially with a team like denver. Do they even have the cap?
The Jones' are loyal and treat their players well. They cut Demarcus Ware early when would have benefited them to do it post June 1 because they respected him and his contributions to Dallas. It is likely they will try to trade/allow Romo to go where he prefers, provided it is not in the NFC East. Romo has more than earned that consideration and the Jones' are that kind of owners.

What if the current OC leaves with a head coaching offer...any chance Romo moves into that role? At this point, I would think retirement and doing what's best for his health and family also has to be part of his decision.

Sam Bradford has an injury history like Romo, and he drew a 1st rounder. Nick Foles, Aaron Brooks, Mark Brunell, Matt Flynn, Matt Hasselback....

You throw out a bunch of names and not one is a valid comp. Give us ONE COMP.

Give us something approximating:
-36 years old
-3,4 back surgeries
-Two clavicle surgeries

Over his last 100 times dropping back to pass Romo has incurred significant injury 3 times.

The risk is just too high for a team to spend massive money AND a premium pick.

Last year against Carolina is irrelevant. He came back way too soon because the season was on the brink of imploding. He tried to save it.

The comps would be Peyton Manning, Brett Farve, Warren Moon, Drew Brees, Carson Palmer.....

Teams with great rosters but no QB don't have a choice. Once they develop somebody, that Super Bowl roster is gone. They have to go all in now.

I always thought Romo would just be cut due to his cap figures the next 3 years. Would Jerruh restructure and trade him to a team with Tony's approval? Does Romo's current contract have trade veto written in it? I would think Romo wants to be cut due to the freedom and bidding war he would see on the free agent market. Trading strictly benefits Dallas, not Romo....

With Wade commanding the defense in Denver and the ability to create TOs and Romo lighting it up on offense, Denver automatically shoots up to contender number 1..
If we are able to get good compensation for him, then I am willing to roll the dice that A) he stays healthy to do that for them and B) we can't beat him anyway.

Better than getting nothing for him.

Yeah, but neither are the 3-7 Jets but they're on your list.

At least with the Jets, they were 10-6 last year and QB play and injuries are the biggest reason why they are 3-7. Chicago, like you said is rebuilding and there is no reason to think they will be a contender with improved QB play.

I don't see the two teams as all that different to be honest. In fact, given age and contracts, the Jets are probably in worse shape long term. The Bears have hit their bottom.

The Romo speculation is understandably rampant. New England fans are concerned Romo could end up in Denver or New York.

Top 5 quarterbacks are rarely up for grabs like this. It's like the Peyton Manning tour.
I honestly think Buffalo is his best spot (if they domt pick up Taylor's contract. Run heavy team will go along way to keeping him upright. Elite HB, and receivers he could make very dangerous. I really think that team could win 11 to 12 games with Romo

I think Tony would like to compete with Brady 2 times a year
