As they say in the beer commericals "Drink Responsibly"

Another example of someone doing something drunk that they would not do sober. :laugh2:

People do things drunk that they would never do sober. Mostly regrettable things.

"Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy." - Ben Franklin

"I feel sorry for people who don't drink. When they wake up in the morning, that's as good as they're going to feel all day." - Frank Sinatra

I'm at the 'drinks once a month' stage now. Usually just social drinking at someone's house, at a dinner or similar get together. Had my share of drunken episodes while younger. No blackouts, but enough bad situations to get me to decide to forgo the heavy drinking.

I also prefer the zippy side of things to the depressive one. Yay Expresso!

There's some strong attraction to the break out of the shell crowbar that alcohol can be. Certainly, historically, you find that the attraction goes way back into prehistory. Was reading an article about how they had just found the oldest record of a wine press. 6000 BC!

I would agree ones judgment is not fully functional. I recall a buddy of mine dancing with a big girl one night at a club when the bartender asked me if that was my friend out on the dance floor I told him yes and he told me you may want to let him know that chick is a dude.

Thanks for the great discussion, however I do not want to get into a "ramifications of abusing alcohol" debate. The original idea was to get your thoughts on or how you interact with those who don't drink.

. Alcohol just makes you lose control of your judgement and ability to rein in irrational actions before they happen.

You used this quote to support your opinion ??

It seems to line up with what I am saying.

Anyway, you don't seem to think that alcohol has played a role in anything negative that has happned, .. I do.

I don't drink either.

I just never developed the habit of drinking. Probably has to do with the fact that I was never really the partying type, so I wasn't around alcohol as my mother and my two siblings don't drink either.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with drinking if you do it in a responsible and you don't do it for negative reasons.

What ramifications of abusing alcohol?
There are no ramifications of abusing alcohol.
Everything was your choice and would have happened whether you drank alcohol or water.

I wish I did have sand in my eyes at times, .. I have seen way too much damage caused by alcohol.

C'mon man, wake up, you're totally missing what I'm saying.
Obviously drinking in excess can make you lose control of your judgement and ability to rein in irrational actions. Hell, that's part of the fun of it. But if you have bad intentions, you have them before you drink or hold a gun.
Like it or not, it's the way it is. Too often people pawn off their responsibility on something else, like the alcohol, or the music, or the tv, or the drugs, or the smell of the food. It's pathetic.

For the most part I agree but I do know people who are pretty mild manner people when sober and yet tend to get in fights whenever they get drunk. Seem alcohol makes some people a bit braver when they have had a few too many than their normal behavior.

Absolutely. It's not called "courage" or "beer muscles" for nothing. I'm not disputing this. It's part of the alure of drinking....increased self-confidence. But the reason they're getting into fights when they drink isn't because the alcohol made them do it. It's much deeper than that. They have issues that they're dealing with and it's manifesting itself when they get drunk.
I know pretty mild mannered people when sober that do not get into fights when they get drunk. Does that mean the alcohol makes them not fight? Or could it be that they are confident and peaceful people inside?
I also know pretty mild mannered people when sober that freak out at the smallest things and it ruins their whole day, and everyone around them, because they can't deal with it. They're stone cold sober the whole time, but just get "set off" by some stupid little thing and it throws them into a tyrade. What makes that happen? Alcohol? Water? Gatorade? Or just a messed up head?

Chances are it is deeper than just alcohol but does not change the fact that having too much to drink plays a role in it. I'm not for banning alcohol and I think whatever action you take sober or not is that persons own responsibility but there is no doubt in my mind that alcohol is a contributing factor in people’s behavior

Again, I'm not arguing that alcohol doesn't lower your inhibitions. It does. Some would argue that holding a gun gives some people confidence, and a feeling of invincibility. But it doesn't make them shoot people.
You can say that alcohol makes you drunk, or it makes you fat, or it makes you sleepy, but you can't say it makes you fight, or makes you rape, or makes you drive drunk. It's simply not true.

If any substance contributes to non normal behavior then it is a problem. If you act one way when sober and act out of character when under the influence then it is playing a role. As far as I'm concerned it still comes down to a personal responsibility for their own actions but to act like it is not a contributing factor is a bit naive. I don’t think a gun changes a person’s personality

I drink every now and then, just because I like some specific kind of beers, the taste, and all that. I drink beer just like I eat at MC Donalds or an asado (a typical dish here in Argentina). I dont drink to get drunk, I dont drink a lot, just to drink a can or two glasses of my favourites beers and thats all.

And which job do you do? Im studying to be a Therapist, I found your post interesting.

I'm getting a degree in Clinical Psychology. I did a practicum with our autism clinic, an autism summer camp, and Williams Syndrome music camp.

One thing I do like is this one chorizo and potato crusted halibut dish with a pecan cream sauce that has Jack Daniels in it.

How much do you know of Asperger's syndrome? I guess some people say it doesn't really exist. I wonder if I don't show signs of it from time to time, not always interested in people a ton as much as random things.
