ware is good for 15-20 sacks; Ellis probably 8; the Rat can get 6-8; James had a real good season but was that a fluke so we do not know. Spencer has shown no sure ability to get as many as Ellis; and we really have no one else now. So actually to me Peppers is almost a real need; given the same people as we had last year I really do not see us equaling the sack numbers.

Ellis took all the third down passing attempts. Spencer was in on most 1st and 2nd downs when they ran the ball. The reason Ellis got those snaps was because he whined about playing time, so it wasnt like Spencer couldn't beat out Ellis..even if he did it wouldn't matter. Wade would still give in to Ellis's demands.

Bradie James also excelled in our 46 looks when he replaced Anthony Spencer there due to injury. James was so effective Spencer didn't get to play in the set that was supposed to get him, Greg Ellis and Demarcus Ware on the field together.

Kevin Burnett played in the middle and Bradie James lined up on the strongside with Greg Ellis in an overload that forced single match-ups for Demarcus Ware and Jay Ratliff.

We first started using the 46 in '07 to get Anthony Spencer on the field at the same time as Ellis and Ware.

James played so well in his spot last season that he didn't get it back after returning from injury.

Peppers would be a wash with Ellis saving 5 million while Peppers would probably be making 5-6 million in 09.

That wouldn't work on several fronts. First, no way Carolina takes just Ellis for Peppers, which means the Cowboys would have to include, at the very least, Spencer ( plus picks ). Once the Cowboys trade Spencer, his accelerated cap hit from his sigining bonus would eat up whatever space trading Ellis' contract creates. Therefor, the Cowboys would be back to square one ( around current cap space ) with not only Ware, but now Julius Peppers to sign.

I supposed that if Jerrah really wanted to, he could rework several current contracts ( Biggs, Gurode, Hamlin ) so they could fit Peppers in and since more than likey there will be no cap for at least next season, Jerrah might be tempted.

When did I say "Ellis for Peppers"? I'm talking about releasing him saves that much.

Your boy isn't that good and he gives up on alot of plays. There's a reason he was a top five pick and now he's fallen off the face of the earth. No thanks.

If Ware is good for 15-20 sacks (and he is), Ellis is good for 6-8 or so, Ratliff 6-8, James does what he did last yr (it wasnt a fluke, he'll get 6-8 sacks) and we also have Spencer, (who WP really likes) how is Peppers a real need? Even going on the low end of their projected numbers, you are looking at 33-35 sacks or so between 4 or 5 players alone.

I think people are really selling Spencer short. Unfortunately he got hurt early last yr in preseason and derailed what was said to be a great offseason and TC to that time. He's going to get double digit sacks this yr if he stays healthy.

People are way to quick to give up on our guys.

Sorry but Spencer has shown NOTHING. You can squawk about injuries or whatever but he has done squat. James had a great season but was that a fluke- so really we have Ware and the Rat and an aging Ellis. Sorry guys but I see a need for another big sack guy.

Sure he has, otherwise he wouldnt have been getting mroe PT than Ellis last yr once he came back from his injury. He also looked pretty impressive at times his rookie yr, but Ellis was having a career season rushing the passer and it kept Spencer on the bench a little more.

Just because he didnt get the sack doesn tmean he's shown "nothing"

And I dont know how anyone can claim James' season awas a "fluke". He had a good yr in 2007 season too, and had shown well under Parcells.

I like Peppers, don't get me wrong, but why are so many people so quick to give up on Spencer? We just gave a 1st round pick for him two seasons ago and people are already trying to just give up on him, entirely, and go with another star name who you'd have to give big time money, along with the enormous money you're about to have to give Ware, and people think this is a great idea?

Do you think Peppers is going to sign here for a nickel or something? He's going to want big time, superstar, money that will be only the next level lower than what Ware is going to wind up with.

Let someone else pay Peppers huge money. I think Spencer is a very good player and will prove a lot of people wrong this year because I have a feeling he's going to phase Ellis out more and more.

I've been saying the same thing, but it doesnt matter. There's too many fans obsessed with "big name-itis" and think thats the only possible way to win a super bowl.

The funny thing is if we did go out and get him, then Spencer goes elsewhere and becomes a solid player, their story would then be "Jerry sux!!!! He is such a fool for letting the 1st rd pick go and pumping huge dollars into a big name!" This is an IRON CLAD lock at how many would respond.

I agree, completely. He'd be racked over the coals, later, for allowing Spencer to get away when he was showing all this 'potential' that they are today claiming he isn't showing because there's a big, flashy, star name out there.
