Johnson was a good choice at the time, but in hindsight it turned out not so good.
Arkin is questionable, but I believe IIRC he had some back issues that held him back too. But not to the degree of Johnson. AOA seemed to be a reach, And McGee was worth a shot, as not too many QB's past the 3rd round have a lot of success.

Yeah, I think some of the picks are perfectly defensible: you can make a great pick who washes out and you can make lousy picks who turn into studs. If you have a good process, your results will be better on average. I think the Cowboys had a pretty bad process when they were picking projects like AOA and Stanback, but I agree that the Johnson pick wasn't a bad one: just didn't work out.

I'm glad they realized Webb's ceiling sooner than later. He had plenty of chances and he offered no signs of growth. The game must've been too fast for him.

Not yet but 90% of them will soon. Go back over the 4th rounds of the 3 years prior and try to name 10 good players. "Common Sense" dictates your not getting a good player in the 4th round unless you get lucky other wise Geno Atkins wouldn't have gotten passed over by teams 3 or 4 times.

We have to start hitting on these picks but it's like we are just willing to throw it away.

Stop looking for high upside and look for guys that can actually play football and have done it at a high level.

There is plenty of guys that go in that area that are just football players and for some reason or another they are getting looked over because of how fast they ran or how tall they are.
