Are we calling him a hit now? He hasn't even secured a starting job yet.

It doesn't seem like there is ever enough of a consensus here on anything to say we but I think he gave us some quality starts at two different positions of need last year. His strip sack while filling in for Ware helped us win that game.

Not yet but 90% of them will soon. Go back over the 4th rounds of the 3 years prior and try to name 10 good players. "Common Sense" dictates your not getting a good player in the 4th round unless you get lucky other wise Geno Atkins wouldn't have gotten passed over by teams 3 or 4 times.

Brandon Hogan Mardy Gilyard Stephen McGee
K.J. Wright Everson Griffen Donald Washington
Da'Norris Searcy Mike Williams Darell Scott
Clint Boling Darryl Sharpton Kaluka Maiava
Jordan Cameron Perry Riley Henry Melton
Sam Acho Alterraun Verner Jonathan Luigs
Luke Stocker Trevard Lindley Mike Thomas
Roy Helu Bruce Campbell Brian Hartline
Christian Ballard Marcus Easley T.J. Lang
Kris Durham Jacoby Ford Victor Butler
Quinton Carter Corey Wootton Mike Goodson
Colin McCarthy Darrell Stuckey Glover Quin
David Arkin Walter Thurmond Vaughn Martin
Clyde Gates Joe McKnight David Bruton
Greg Salas Aaron Hernandez Sammie Lee Hill
Chimdi Chekwa Dennis Pitta Chip Vaughn
Cecil Shorts Phillip Dillard Kyle Moore
Kendall Hunter Thaddeus Gibson Stanley Arnoux
Casey Matthews Joe Hawley D.J. Moore
James Brewer Garrett Graham Brandon Williams
Jalil Brown A.J. Edds Shawn Nelson
Delone Carter Geno Atkins Anthony Hill
Alex Henery Keenan Clayton Rich Ohrnberger
Chris Prosinski Mike Kafka Louis Murphy
Chris Hairston Al Woods Lawrence Sidbury
Tandon Doss Eric Norwood Slade Norris

You're just moving the goalposts around. Fourth rounders generally don't get cut after their first season. To try to make B.W. Webb sound like a typical fourth round draft pick is just ridiculous. Statistically there's about a 20% or so success rate of finding a 3-year starter in the fourth round -- about 6 per year. So finding 10 "good" fourth rounders over three years isn't hard at all. There were plenty of good players in the fourth round that year.

The problem i see with our 4th rd picks is that we have reserved that rd to pick up the scouting dept pet cats most of them who are not highly regarded at all ,this years pick is no different and he looks like a big dud so far.

Tyler Patmon is going to make this team :)

And then he will be pressed into service and find his five foot nothin' gets eaten alive by six foot two athletic receivers and there won't be one person on this board that remembers those two picks against future truck drivers and stevedores.

I brought the issue that our 4th round selections were just god awful. I was vilified for saying that I didn't know what Im talking about. Figured that now the Webb is gone everyone is questioning how we select our 4th rounders.

Fourth rounders bust (as in, contribute little to no value to an NFL franchise) over 50% of the time. People vastly overestimate the hit rate of draft picks.

That said, we really are atrocious at picking in that round.

Maybe they aren't putting enough evaluation into the aspect of simple, football types of guts. When missing, it doesn't grow on it's own if the team doesn't also build that part of the game as well. But two years ago, the team went for team captains and good character. Now, the team players attempt to go it on their own, and have gone to drugs as well.

This position is often a technical addition, and not just a strength player...and with a deficiency in team mental state, could explain a lack of developed talent into an aggressive team.

Some of the other highly purchase defensive secondary have wound down as well...Jenkins, Claiborne, and Carr. Might have something to say about approach in that group as well.

Feel better now?

So are you saying you prefer Webb over Patmon at this point?
That is what this discussion is about, so assume that's a yes?

It's all about incremental improvements and you know that. If someone comes along and upgrades the bench by ousting Patmon, good for them
You're just in a bad mood or something
.
Btw, Patmon and Scandrick or the same height ...and they're only 1 inch shorter than Claiborne.

Didn't feel bad when I posted that, thanks for asking though.

No pass rush, it doesn't matter. This is pretty simple.

Don't assume.

No pass rush, no pass defense. Hmmmm....I read that somewhere.

You're just in a bad mood or something

Not at all. Merely making an observation.

Now here's a blast for you. Scandrick isn't that good. He'd be the 3rd best corner on a good defense. Maybe.

But Scandrick gets beat at the highest point of the ball when it comes into then receiver when he plays the bigs. So this wasn't a ringing endorsement for either.

And I believe I posted a thread about Claiborne already. Just show me something. Stay on the field after you make a routine tackle.

The problem is with the front end of this defense like it was last year. Patmon could be an improvement over Webb. My problem is this team is shuffling cards in a 43 card deck.

Fix the front end and the back end will be adequate.

I liked Webb in coverage but he was as marshmallow soft taking on blocks and tackling.

Cowboys needs to stop picking soft corners like Jenkins, Claiborne, and Webb.

i think they learned that lesson the hard way.
