Per Cami? AND Sturm: Ryan Williams has been cut

The backup only "put up better numbers" because their number of carriers per game/season were very low and the sample size is too small. Joseph Randle had a 6.7 ypc last season as compared to DeMarco with a 4.7 ypc. Was Randle better then Murray?

McFadden played 3 games as a backup and his average shot up to 5.3 ypc.

Preach it, brother x.............

Yeah, it is ok to hope as long as it is realistic hope. Williams has played in 5 games since 2011. Think about that for a second. Run DMC has only played in one full season since 2008. Neither of these guys are/were going to do much here. Our Oline is awesome but they aren't miracle workers. Demarco was a great running back, not elite but really good. The combination with having a great oline and RB is what made us so successful last year and now we have gotten away from that in my opinion. In my mind our only hope right now is Randle and he is a question mark both on and off the field.

We are on the same page with the RB situation. Let's hope we are both wrong. I would like to get a guy like Chris Johnson as a safe backup. One thing about that dude is he never gets hurt. I would prefer a player better than CJ but that would come down to a trade of some sort. I would take a player like Lamar Miller for Leary.

Murray, in all likelihood, was not going to reproduce the season he had last year. Not only because he barely stayed healthy (playing with a broken hand) and because he hit a milestone workload that is foreboding.

It was the right decision to move on.

This has to be related to his availability for camp, but it really bums me out to see Williams cut. I was pulling for him, loved his personality and his rushing style.

Agreed.

They gave his knees every opportunity and medical intervention, hoping for recovery. It didn't happen.

It's sad when a player's career is cut short, but everybody knows it can happen on one hit.

Add him to the list with David Wilson of VA Tech RBs who's health failed them in the NFL. It's a shame, too, because he seemed like a good teammate and a die hard Cowboy fan.

Glad to hear that Stephen reportedly told him personally. That's pretty cool if you think about it.

Archer just confirmed it. Williams had knee surgery after minicamp.

I remember him saying about his knee injury that he couldn't even find his kneecap. That was a very vivid and gory detail.

I wish him well, but I believe his playing days are over.

Cowboys release RB Ryan Williams, LB Cam Lawrence, OL Ryan Miller. Sign RB Gus Johnson, OL Ronald Patrick, LB Justin Anderson

Is this Patrick's second go 'round with the Cowboys? Seems I remember him from before...

Yes - he was in camp last year. Played some guard, and took some snaps at center as well.

They must have liked what they saw.

Given this team's current depth on the offensive line, there should be a lot fewer preseason games where this team is scoring less than 10 points. And there should be no excuses for offensive skill position players being evaluated.

The funny thing is how many Cowboys fans that don't realize Williams was nothing more than a practice squad player. Some of them were even holding out hope he would win the starting gig.

I'm guilty. I think it more has to do with (as you said) "hope." We're desperately looking for someone to step up now that Murray's gone.

Justin Anderson is a UDFA from '14, out of Foley High in Alabama and U.of Louisiana - Lafayette. 6'1", 235#, ILB

Was signed by the Giants last year, but got injured early, was cut, then resigned when Beason (MLB) was injured. Was re-cut in November, picked up by Minny, then waved last March.

So, recently, a few people somewhere thought he could play a little. Pro day 40 was 4.68, with 6.89 3-cone, 37" vertical, and 24 bench reps.

I have hope as well that 1 of these guys step up and show they can do it. I also have concern because the guy who accounted for 40% of this offense and performed very well is no longer here. The guys who are have major question marks. This does not mean those question are not answered positively but they are question of concerns. McFadden track record has not been great thus far in the pros and Randle has so few snaps there is no way of knowing how he will do once he is asked to take on much more than he has at this level

And looking for the silver lining, we find that an oft-injured played who some had considerable doubts about is now gone; so, less to worry about, right?

1st 2 season Murray dealt with injuries. Missing 3 games in his rookie season and 6 in the following. Since 2012 he missed 2 games. I know some feel he is injury prone yet I have never seen a fragile or injury prone RB who was able to carry the ball 392 times along with 57 catches and played the full 16 games. Injuries happen nothing anyone can do about it but I think some of the injury talk of Murray was a bit overblown.

(I was referring to Williams)

So at present we have, Randle, Dmac, Dunbar, Seastrunk (Sp), and now Gus Johnson. As well as 2 fullbacks.

Our third string DE are Gardner and Russell.

Jones, Patmon, Claiborne, Wilson, Rivers, Gachkar, Bishop, Crawford, Whaley, McClain, Mincey, and Gregory too. They should play the poopoo out of Jones.

Safety depth sucks. Vinopal's power metrics are good but his running is marginal. Scott runs better but is small at 190 lbs. We know what Heath and McCray are.

Apparently he cleared waivers and was placed on injured reserve:

Cowboys placed RB Ryan Williams (knee) on injured reserve.

It turns out Williams was waived/injured, not released. Unsurprisingly, he went unclaimed on waivers. Recovering from a June "procedure," Williams just can't get his troublesome knee healthy. Williams will likely be released with an injury settlement if/when he gets healthy in 2015.
