Per Mike Fisher: Jerry is worried if he can sell the idea of Mike McCarthy return to fans

He can't, but since when does he give a damn what we think or want?
He doesn't have to care. He knows most of us who have been Cowboys fans all our lives are going to continue to be despite him. He knows that casual fans are going to fill his stadium or at least keep buying their season tickets, even if they end up selling them to other teams' fans when we're bad. He knows his franchise is the most valuable in sports. Jerry does what he wants to do and knows there are no real consequences.

Realistically, whose better? Lots of these young hot coaches are flaming out quick.
Honestly, the only coach I saw having a chance of changing the Joneses' way was Belichick. I base that off Parcells. Jerry actually showed a lot of respect for Parcells and let him do things (mostly) his way. That is apparent with how we reprioritized the draft and how Bill was allowed to bring in his FOBs (friends of Bill) to man the team. Other than Zimmer, Parcells also brought in the coaches he wanted. I believe Belichick would have demanded the same kind of power and Jones, who is friends with Belichick, would have given it to him because he respects what Belichick has accomplished.

That being said, I don't believe in the salary cap era that you give a head coach more than five years to reach a Super Bowl. My research shows that if you are going to win one, it happens within those five years. Now, most coaches don't hold on to their jobs the way they did back before the salary cap era, but we can only use the data available.

Ridiculous. Don’t make football decisions based on what you can sell to the fans. Fans are going to buy no matter what. Make decisions to win the games

Sign him to a 4 year extension to coincide with Dak’s contact. Why not? It’s all going to be the same anyway. If he ends up firing him, he will probably wait till the last minute like he did with Garrett and let all of the top candidates go to other jobs. The alternative maybe Jeff Fisher or Rex Ryan.
What the hell!!! Can I shake your Internet hand please! Post of the year!!! Lol

I'm actually okay with McCarthy coming back, unless we can get someone like Vrabel in here. I love the way the team has been fighting. No they're not a good team, but they are fighting hard. It's Jerry's fault the way the team has played this year, not Mike's.

Yes it's Fish, I know a lot of you don't care for him that much, I just like to hear this insight

This assumes Jerry cares about the fans.

He doesnt. It is very apparent in his actions, how he acts, and the things he does.

He cares about Jerry and the Jones name.

Well. I listened to those two minutes. Twice. Then I went to YouTube and twice read the transcript, which was:

Jerry Item: Jerry believes that this year's injury plague, and McCarthy's three straight 12 and 5s, and playoffs, before this year, are major selling points for the idea of, uh, rehiring him retaining him.
Jerry makes his Ben Franklin list, that he likes to talk about. And those go on the yes list. We got injuries. Not his fault. 12 and 5. 12 and 5. And 12 and 5. Playoff. Playoff. Playoff. To his credit, those things are on the Ben Franklin Yes List, but and this is important to you.
You can take out a number two pencil now. In the words of my source, Jerry is keenly aware, and quote, concerned about whether he can, quote, sell the positivity to, my words, an increasingly angry and apathetic fanbase.
Do you hear me? Do you hear what I hear?
He knows. He is thinking positive thoughts about the possibility but is highly aware of the apathy and the anger. For whatever good it does. We shall see.
Sam Watt: "Fish, this is the best show you've ever done." Well, I'm trying to make up for last night, which is the worst show I've ever done. Last night was raccoons and squirrels. This is straight dope. No <expletive>. Are you hearing me and are you hearing what my source is telling you about Jerry. It's these things are critically important if you care about the Cowboys.

______________

Personally, I believe both Fish and his 'source' are exaggerating anything Jones may have actually said. Jones facts:
  • He did not extend McCarthy's contract prior to the season
  • He has witnessed his team struggle mightily to even be 6-8
  • He can even comprehend the 2024 playoffs (which he could sell) hang by a less than 1% chance of happening
  • He has previously controlled (and *sold*) the head coach changing narrative eight times and in eight different ways
Whatever. I will wait out this speculatory Jones nonsense like all the rest from the past 30 years. Some people continually buy into the atypical Jones narratives. Patience will eventually prove whether this example had any merit.

Jerry's plans are:

A: Kellen Moore
B: Mike Zimmer

I'll risk saying that, depending on how Eagles' O finishes the playoffs, Kellen will get out of reach and Zimmer will be the safest comfort hire for our GM.

Keep Mike but mix it up with the coaches. Solari can retire for instance. Bring in the biggest stud Oline coach you can find. New WR’s coach as well. The offensive staff needs a shake up.

Like Jerry cares what the fans think.
If he cared...he would have fired the GM at least 15 years ago...hired a REAL GM....and let said GM do his/her job. That person would have benchmarks and milestones they would have to meet. If they don't, you fire them and hire someone else until you get it right. I would not begrudge Jerry if he got it wrong...I loathe him because he's gotten wrong for 30 years, yet won't CHANGE!!!!

THEN FOLLOW ANOTHER TEAM!!!
lol all caps.. nice touch. Seriously what’s the selling point for a team that sits out free agency every year, overpays their own guys and aren’t ever close to getting over that hump? You don’t seem to mind the owner crapping all over the players and the fans year after year, that’s on you!

Whether he rehires MM or not is the leasat of my concerns. If he hires a new head coach it will be a big splash in the news and it will overshadows his incompetence in building a better roster in 2025.

If I had a choice of a new head coach, or MM with Jerry making some big roster moves in the offseason, I would take the latter. A new head coach while letting some good players walk and not signing anyone worthy to replace them again would make me sick.

MM is not the worst coach the Cowboys have had. The problem is the annual talent drain while Jerry sits on his hands.
