If Tyler was brought in to play LT then why did Philbin not give him a SINGLE rep at that position in preseason?

Because it is obvious that Tyler was drafted to play LG first and foremost then maybe LT in the future.

Don't let facts get in the way of your fake narratives.

Tyler was drafted to be the future LT, Seeing how he was a rookie it is easier to come in a play guard as you get acclimated to the NFL. Dallas did that with Flozell Adams. However because of injury it forced Dallas to put him at LT and thus far he has handled it. Personally I would continue to put him at LT

The problem is that the best LT on team is not Tyler.

Peters is still the better LT.

While Tyler is the best LG on the team.

Like Zack Martin, Tyler could be elite at guard.

Tyler is far from elite at LT right now and unlikely to be this season at least.

Cowboys need to put their best 5 in the positions that will maximize not just the individual or OL unit but also maximize the offense and overall success of the team.

Not sure why this is such a difficult concept to grasp.

Tyler can take whole offseason (like Erik Williams, like LA, like Flozell, like Tyron) to learn intricacies of LT position and set himself and team up for success next season.

I'd say that's a sign of a young LT starting to staking his claim.

Totally agree.
I surprised by the criticism and the many calls to move Tyler.
I think Tyler Smith is likely our LT for the next decade.
He's playing very well, why move him. He was drafted to eventually be our LT, we just thought he could play at year at G first, but Tyron's injury blew up that plan.
Think we move on from Tyron in the offseason, and try to find a starting G in the draft.
Farniok is the weak link and Peters is just fine at G.
I'm excited to see how Peters helps him, both with his playing ability and his lending his experience. Coach on the field so to speak.

Tyler Smith in 2 games has given up 3 pressure. The kid is learning with a passing grade. I don't want to see a situation where he being moved around, he was drafted as a Tackle and performing very well at tackle. Peters has experiance as a guard as well and is not a log term solution he is here for 1 season. Smith is the future and if he was struggling I would be more likely to agree with you but that is not the case, he is performing very well with 1 penalty thus far and that was an off sides penalty.

Are you not seeing his struggle with technique and footwork in pass blocking?

As a pass blocker, Tyler win rate is not good.

Peters at LG may be passable and better than Farniok but why not actually upgrade LT position right now and replace Farniok with Tyler and make the OL's glaring weakness an actual strength.

The point may be moot because Peters at LG may be slight upgrade which will satisfy FO, coaches and fans alike.

But I am suggesting weaponizing the OL, put the best 5 in their best positions and make OL simply dominant again, not just becoming road traders in run blocking but become impenetrable wall in pass blocking as well.

Peters - Tyler - Biadasz - Zack - Steele

Farniok (FB)
McGovern (TE)

No I'm not nor are mnay others since he is grading out very well. Dallas is going to do what they feel is best if that is Peters at LT and Smith at LG then so be it but fact is he is getting it done at LT and is clearly the future at LT and I would rather see him playing at Tackle instead of friceken musical chairs. Lastly we have not seen Peters at all as of yet and at 40 he played well last season but not at the same pro bowl level.

They sure are taking their sweet time with the Peters experiment.
How soon was he supposed to come in and know the offense, and gel with the rest of the line? I think the timeline was set at week 3 from the start, in which case...

Maybe they've seen Peters in practice, and saw that he's not nearly as fast as he once was, and decided it would be better to put him at guard, where speed isn't as crucial.

Just say you didn't watch him play with the Bears.

Peters has played for 2 decades because he is an absolute TECHNICIAN.

With POWER.

Peters win rate as pass blocker was ridiculous with Bears in 2021.

Indeed! Lotta Fans here are elevating Peters based on Rep. Best to let Tyler continue developing as LT and let Peters be the utility guy, especially since Tyler is outperforming all reasonable expectations at LT. We still need to see how McGovern is after returning from injury. Some people think it's so easy to move guys around on the OL, it just ain't the case.

Is this evaluation by same guy who thought McGovern was better than Tyler at LG?

Or the one who never played Connor Williams at Center?

Same guy who oversaw the most penalized OL in 2021????

Walls of text.

Must be psychology.

I’ve read War and Peace,

but I balk at an eight line paragraph on the internet.

I lied.

Four lines is

too much.

I know the keep Tyler at LT no matter what posters will attack the PFF grades and ESPN win rates but it is ironic that very many of these same posters who believe their eye tests over stats were decrying the Tyler Smith pick vociferously and relentlessly in the beginning.

Their very own eye tests declared that Tyler Smith was too penalty prone, arms too short, too unskilled and/or lacked the upside to be a first round pick.

Same guys who don't understand what it means to develop a young OL the right way while still putting team success first.

The guys who whiffed on Tyler Smith pick could not see what he was or what he could become.

What position did Zack Martin play in college?

See I can play that silly game too.
Nothing silly about the question. He's proven that he can play LT at a high level, for full seasons. He's never proven that once in a real game.

Oy vey.

It's obvious that your mind is made up.

Were you also one of the posters who felt same about picking Tyler with 1st round pick?

Bet your mind was made up back then too.
