Petrino Resigns from Falcons - Going to Arkansas

I can see either Shottenhiemer or Parcells there. It's going to depend on how much money Blank wants to give up. And neither of those guys will want total control. Neither of these guys had total control at their previous HC jobs, they had a huge say in personel decisions and scouting, but not total control.

Blank needs a proven HC who knows how to rebuild a team and can fill the stands. After watching all of the empty seats during the Monday Night Football game, Blank can not afford to screw up this HC hire.

Maybe Parcells

Parcells is way too smart to touch that clubhouse/owner with a 10ft. pole. If he wanted a challenge, I can see him in Miami. Miami is fubar but the Falcons are rotten.

Blank has burned through 3 coaches in less than 6 years. This is a dysfunctional organization that Blank will have a darn hard time convincing a Vet like Cowher or Parcells to take over.

Sort of sounds like Jerry Jones burning through Switzer, then Gailey, then Campo.

It's just going to depend on how bad he wants Atlanta to win, how much money he wants to spend, and how much he wants to fill the stands. Atlanta fans won't go to the games if the product is bad, and Blank knows that.

They can hire Wade after Jerry fires him to retain R.J.

That will clear the way for a Roy to Atlanta trade, but don't ask me how:banghead:

LMAO@ This story. Petrino realized he was in the depths of hell and had an overnight epiphany. DeAngelo Hall still can't cover TO.

Teams need to start paying college coaches more this is embarrassing. Colleges are taking them from us, It should be the other way around, they offer similar money and less media hassle and the coaches are respected there and here they are a joke.

After while, it becomes more than about money. It's dealing with rich, spoiled, me-first athletes in pro ranks. At least in college, coaches have control over players. For some, headache of dealing with pro players just aren't worth it.

Yes it does sound like the post Jimmy Cowboys and the one word to describe them is DYSFUNCTIONAL, and it starts at the top. Jerry has pulled his head out of his arse and made some huge strides as a GM/Owner. Blank had better take a hard look at his GM and ask the tough questions.

Nice to see the man quit on the NFL so soon. What a fraud.

Go back to coaching kids with a HUGE unfair edge in recruiting... leave the salary cap, free agency, and even playing field to the real coaches.

Not to worry... Pete Carroll, the New England failure, is still called a "genius" at USC, right? Hilarious!

Petrino's a *****.

I have no respect for this move, quitting after one year.

What if JJ had quit after being the laughing stock of the NFL his first year with Jerry?

Atlanta lost their QB....that's no excuse for the defense and every other aspect of the team sucking...Petrino should at least try to right the ship. He must really be a horrible coach and maybe he's lost the players totally...that's the only reason I can think of for quitting.

Adam Shefter said the other coaches wanted him out and BP wanted out, so it was mutual. He just didn't have "it" as an NFL coach and he knew it. But you are right, it was a chicken poop way to go. Now run back to the kids where you can reign supreme:mad:

PETRINO DIDN'T ADDRESS THE TEAM

Jay Glazer of FOXSports.com reports that former Falcons coach Bobby Petrino resigned without addressing the team.

Glazer also reports that Petrino held a brief (as in 10 seconds) meeting with his assistants.

"He just said to us, 'Guys I've resigned, I'm going to Arkansas. I'm sorry. I'll be talking with you guys in the future.' And with that he turned and walked out the door. We haven't been told anything else," one assistant coach told Glazer.

Several players called Petrino's handling of the situation "classless."

Petrino: Hey guys, I was thinking last night during that beat-down maybe the NFL is not for me....hey what a second, Im getting a text from Arkansas....Im outta here fellas, see ya!!!

But..But... everything can be made better with money.

This was a complete shock as I actually was interested to what Arthur Blank was saying in his booth interview. He was prepared to draft a QB and then have him sit back and spend a year just learning from Paterino once being a QB coach. Whoever gets this job is going to get alot of leway and have no expectations what so ever. The city has given up on the team. The fans have abandoned it. The players want refuge. They need to get back into winning to restore that franchises name, but no one is expecting anything.

Seems like a great job, Paterino was a bumbling idiot. He hired his friends and tried to revitalize the career of his former bust students while playing quarterback career Russian roulette with a few others. It was pathetic. For the league, this is a good move as well as it is for him.

conclusion: Hes such a bum quitter.

Conjures up memories of the scene in Titanic where the guy grabs the kid and jumps on the lifeboat. :p:

Hmm. I'll have to remember that the next time I'm on a sinking boat. But the kid's on his own once we hit dry land.
