"Inside Sources" have told me that the deal is all but done.

From what I hear there was a final offer the Bears made that made Danny say yes and the bears say yes.

Here is what I am getting from my sources.

The Bears get...

#6 over all pick in the draft
5th round pick in next years draft
LB Rocky McIntosh

The Commanders get

#31 Pick In the Draft
LB Lance Briggs

And the deal clincher that made Danny go ahead and pull the trigger...

The skins also get...

.

..

...

A nice new High Chair and Step ladder.

Word is that Danny is VERY VERY excited about it.

omg I went on that skins thread and read through some more of this guys stuff.

for some reason he is stuck that because of the point value of the pick that they are only giving up the 16th pick in the draft.

Good God. You have the 6th pick in the draft, you get a blue chipper in that area. If you switch to 31 and then get briggs you have a very expensive linebacker playing a position you already gave up a ton for and then you have to hope you dont miss on that 31 because that pick is risky.

amazing. I will never understand giving up the 6th pick in the draft, when you dont have a 2 or a 3 or a 4 for a linebacker who is good but not great playing with alot of talent in front of him.

I mean didnt edergton hartwell have really good numbers in baltimore, then left got his paycheck from atlanta and has not been heard from since?

Man chasing linebackers with the 6th pick in the draft as bait is just bad business.

I guess vinny cerrato is not the worst front office person in the nfl for nothing.

well, heres just another way to look at it.

The skins dont want to stay at 6. Gibbs and co. have come out and said that they are not comfortable there. So, it is seen that they will either trade up or trade down in this draft.

This trade could just give them insurance in case those deals to move up or move down arn't there.

Obviously they don't think anyone who will be available at the #6 is worth it, so maybe they just want to keep the option open in case a deal cant be worked (just a few thoughts from a slight optimist ;) )

or maybe it's that every top defensive player (well, except landry) has a knock on them, and are falling on the board. Why spend such a high pick on a player who has falling stock?

name me a player that doesn't have a "knock" on them?
face it, danny boy is the epitome of the SOS - shiney object syndrome. he wants to build via FA and will use drafts picks to do it.

then a year later things don't pan out and he has a firesale.

you wanna sit and defend, be my guest. but if that were the cowboys making such a trade, you'd be laughing your skins-feathers off at us.

I am sure they were laughing, and deservedly so, when we gave up two picks for Galloway some years back.

IIRC, players not under contract cannot be fined, so in theory the Bears could not fine Briggs, as he has not signed/doesn't have to sign his franchise contract offer until the games start.

Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but couldn't Briggs wait until right before the last six games of the regular season, and then sign his contract? I'm not altogether too sure on if this is possible/true.

I think Briggs is a better player than many on this board seem to believe, but also don't think his value as a player is remotely close to the value of selecting one of the 6-7 blue-chip prospects in this draft. He's a very good tackler in a scheme designed to funnel plays (mostly running) towards him. But is he an exceptional player/talent? I don't believe so.

the Pats fined Deion Branch for not reporting

wow. that's a giggle fest in the making. would ANYONE trade galloway for those two players? well, would anyone trade those two players for galloway?

that's why you seldom see players go for top draft picks anymore.

and the chargers think that they'll get a 1st or something for turner.

Are you not too infatuated with any of the top defensive players in the draft?

No, I think there are some really, really special players in the draft, and that is why I want the Skins to do this deal. I want them to over pay for a linebacker that may or may not be any good out of Chicago's scheme and without Urlacher beside him.

You guys need Landry to replace Sean Taylor, who you're not going to be able to re-sign. Or, if you could move back a bit, you could position yourselves for a TE to replace Cooley.

What I don't understand, is that there are players of Brigg's caliber available on the open market every FA season, if you want them. Adalius Thomas, for instance. Or Nate Clements. If you're going to give up 20M guaranteed to a player, why not at a position of need in regular FA?

You're basically moving down 25 spots in the first round this year because you can't plan well during FA or because you're not in a position where you can wait for next year to sign the guy in the open market.

Over on the Eagles board one of the guys made what I thought was a good point.

If this trade goes down, it will drastically help a team that is already a contender in the NFC, while hurting a team that isn't really a threat.

As much as I like seeing the 'skins make boneheaded moves, I don't want the Bears to get any stronger because they are more of a threat to the Eagles.

Wasn't McIntosh their ONLY draft pick last year?

I've thought about that, too, but I really think the Bears seriously overachieved last year, and aren't really *that* good. And they still have that Grossman guy at QB. ;)

Exactly. Not sure if Quinn will be there, but IMHO, they're crazy if they miss a chance to get him if he's there.
