I think we're all capable of acknowledging that Kyle Orton is both one of the better backups in the league *and* a major step down from Tony Romo, aren't we?
The guy got paid a lot to be a backup, because there were teams legitimately looking at him to be in competition as a starter. It was a mild coup at the time he was signed that he was willing to come to Dallas to hold the clipboard, but he came here for a bit of career stability to go along with a healthy paycheck. If you have to play without your franchise player, he's about as good a backup plan as you're going to have in a QB starved league.
And, while I haven't read as many posts this week with the holidays going on and all, but I'd be shocked if there were posters who both appreciate Tony Romo and want the Cowboys to lose this week without him. The guys who've spent years defending Tony do so because the criticism of the player is so ridiculous. Pretty much without fail those same posters defend the organization from the more ridiculous criticisms people try to trot out. The two go pretty much hand-in-hand. I know for a fact that I defend both groups, and I'd like nothing better than to see Kyle break every single Cowboy QB single game record in the book this weekend. If he can be significantly better than Tony Romo in every regard from here on out, I think I'd be pretty ok with that.
