turns out Teams are Leary about a QB with previous lingering back issues that is soon to turn 33 years old. HIGH RISK factor.

Or... The NFL season isn't even over.

This thread is clickbait.. Stafford is going to have a lot of people going after him and the only thing that will cause him to not go somewhere is the Lions asking for too much.

So 10 out of 32 is not much interest.

Seems to me if you take away the teams like the Chiefs, Raiders, etc. that are no way in the market for a starting quarterback, those that have contracts too prohibitive to get rid of their starting quarterback and those who are in the midst of a big rebuild and can't use a 33 year old (on Feb 7th) quarterback and so forth 10 is about all that could "use" him...

I think he's going to the Colts for the #21 pick. They want to compete now and he'll give them a few years of service where they can either re-up on a cheaper vet contract if he's playing solidly or turn the reins over to Eason/a younger QB.

1000%......team owner was just saying his team is in a win-now mode. Implying they wanted a guy who hit the ground running.

https://sports.yahoo.com/top-potential-trade-destinations-matthew-002652439.html --

“Stafford is a Texas native and has the type of physical arm talent that has made Cowboys owner Jerry Jones weak in the knees before. Stafford’s salary with bonuses comes cheaper than what it would take for the Cowboys to use the franchise tag on Prescott once again, and Stafford is fully healthy relative to the younger Prescott."

Stafford's 2020 stats with a putrid Detroit team -- 4,084 yards, 26tds, 10ints.

If the Cowboys have Prescott on the tag or under a long-term deal, the cost against the cap would be prohibitive in 2021 and beyond. It could make it difficult for Dallas to upgrade a roster that has missed the playoffs in three of the past four seasons.

Dallas would have a difference of about $30 million in cap space over the next two years from Stafford to Prescott. What could the Cowboys do with that extra money? Add a safety, linebacker, cornerback or a defensive tackle?

Get the deal done.

Lions have already talked to one-third of the league about Matthew Stafford
Posted by Michael David Smith on January 27, 2021, 2:44 PM EST

The Lions are shopping quarterback Matthew Stafford, and they have a whole lot of potential customers.

About a third of the league has reached out to the Lions about a potential Stafford trade, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Among the teams that have been mentioned as potential trade partners for the Lions are the Colts, 49ers, Broncos, Patriots, Football Team, Panthers, Raiders, Rams, Texans and Cowboys.

The Lions are said to be seeking at least a first-round draft pick for Stafford. With so many teams interested, they may be able to get more than that.
the OP wants to take threat to daks job off the table , no one that even is mentioned as Cowboys destination is going well for Dak slobberers..so this is their way of lashing out..

if things stall with dak, he holds out , tried forcing trade id say Stafford a very good choice to hold down the fort and id give 3rd for him...

If this team doesn't resign Dak and lets him walk for ZERO in return when they could have probably gotten a nice haul by using the non exclusive tag just last year......not only would that be the biggest bone head move in Jerry's history (which says a ton), but would also prove there isn't anything close to an organizational plan in place.

No matter what anyone thinks of Dak....they aren't getting anywhere near the return for him that they could have had a year ago.

If Stafford came here, he'd be going from the Lions to the...Lions.

Well, the Lions with 10x the scrutiny.

Would DET agree to a trade for Prescott if they could get a tag and trade deal done and keep their #1 pick? I see them as comparable QB's and Stafford would be cheaper; however, what QB in his right mind would agree to going to DET?

it would be a 2 year rental because he has 2 years left on his current deal. I hate the idea. Here is why. If we pull the trigger, not only do we get a 33 year old QB that has never done a thing, but has back issues as of late. THEN as a result of making this deal..3 things happen..we lose Dak, OUR 10 OVERALL PICK IN 2020..then we lose Stafford after 2 years then we have nothing but a rebuild at QB going on. NO THANKS.

Why would anyone take Stafford right now. He is one of the losingest QBs in NFL history?

The Lions don't seem to be getting as much interest in Matthew Stafford as expected - ProFootballTalk

When it comes to potential interest in Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford, the glass is currently two-thirds empty. That's the obvious import of the news that a third of the league has reached out to the Lions. A third of the league. Ten teams. For a 32-year-old franchise quarterback who is going to get his wish [more]

This is a nonsensical story.

First, 10 teams is actually significant interest, especially for a soon to be 33 year old QB. I can only really see about 10-12 teams at most that may be looking for a QB, and some of those will look to address the situation in the draft.

Second, it's 10 out of 31 teams expressing interest, not 32 teams as the article indicates. The Lions aren't going to trade Stafford to the Lions. And, again, most of those already have a QB they plan to stick with.

this is an auction. when the first bids start to come in that is when the frenzy will start. teams are interested they just don't want to bid against themselves.

Stafford has two years remaining on his contract. $20 and $23 for the next two years. Think about that for a minute in a reduced salary cap year. We also have an agent wanting nearly $40 million per year. Another franchise tag limits moving forward. Stafford never had a good OL or running game like ours. No wonder he was run over by opposing defences. If the Dak negotiations appear to be headed in the same stand off as last year; offer Cooper and a 3rd then flip Dak rights for picks. Teams with no salary cap issues will pony up picks. Use the savings to get a stud DL and Safety. I mentioned those positions because they are not strong areas in this years draft.
no thanks.
i'm signing Dak and keeping Cooper.

I just saw that about 1/3 of the teams have contacted the Lions about him. I would say that is interest.
Especially considering its still January, SB hasnt even been played yet.
Those that think soon to be 33 year old vet QBs that have stayed healthy in this league as over the hill are being foolish if they think Stafford can't still play this game.
Just needs the right situation, his entire career was spent with the Lions.
A smart team with the right fit can improve with Stafford, much like Colts did with Rivers, and Titans did with Tannehill.

I can see a team like New Orleans taking a look at him. Not sure NO wants Winston starting longterm either. Brees is retiring so that would make sense to me. He has to go someplace where they are ready to win a SB now. THAT IS NEW ORLEANS. That is a fit for Stafford. They have everything in place for him to succeed.

A team who wants exclusive dibs on him. I'll shoot the Lions a second for Stafford. But in my opinion the issue with Stafford is the fact he's a 32 yo QB that's not very accomplished.
With the age that QBs of his caliber have been playing to, he could easily have another 8 years left in him. He is a top 8 QB.
