It’s been proven by the fact he coached six years in Atlanta and only had two winning seasons. He got Atlanta to a Super Bowl and they proceeded to cough up a 25 point lead in the second half. It was downhill from there with Quinn. His team blew a 20 point lead against us two years ago. He was only one game over 500 in six seasons and was 0-5 when he got fired. If Jerry hires Quinn as the HC I’ll be almost as angry as the day he hired Wade Phillips. Another coach who was a real good DC but a crappy HC.
If a coach got us to the SB and lost a 25 point lead that would be the best thing we've done in 25 years lol.

I would very much prefer not reaching a Super Bowl if we were going to blow a 25 point second half. There’s nothing that’s ever happened in the history of this franchise that would tear up the fans more than to see the Cowboys blow a 25 point second half lead in a Super Bowl. Not even the Jackie Smith drop in the Super Bowl or the Dwight Clark catch in the 81 NFC title game combined would devastate the fan base like seeing the Cowboys blow a huge second half Super Bowl lead. I would totally disown the Cowboys if they ever had that happen to them. That would be beyond embarrassing!

No better than McC and with the same kind of players.
One cheats one way (bounties and whatnot) and the other cheats another way (tries to train the OL to hold without holding).
Both are the same tier and the obsession over Payton is stupid and will further vilify Jerry when Sean wins nothing too.

Because they are both the same caliber of coach.
Strong take my friend!

Poor McCarthy.

Guy has done a pretty good job. Did a good job last year, and still can't catch a break.

That said, Payton has been one of my favorite coaches for years. I wouldn't be upset about it. I would just like to see McCarthy get a fair shot.

Payton is coming here. Whether y’all like it or not. Doesn’t matter.

You realize he's under contract and would require a few high round draft picks, if we hire him for 2023, at least.

Don’t agree on Dan Quinn. All his teams did in Atlanta while he was head coach was cough up big leads. He’s a better DC than an HC.
I disagree. He had no control over his drafting as HC in Atlanta, and if it wasnt for boy wonder Shanahan refusing to run the ball against Brady he would be a SB winning coach. Shanahan has also done that again against the Chiefs.

So really. Who is at fault?

Jerry doesn't pay high-priced coaches unless he needs to build a stadium, and he's not about to give up personnel decisions.

Good. Payton is wildly overrated anyway.

I’m fully aware of what the entire situation is.

You could say the same thing about Andy Reid and Bill Belichick in their first head coaching runs.

Andy Reid had a lot of success in Philly. He reached three NFC title games and a Super Bowl. He had 8 winning seasons with three seasons of 12 or more wins. He now has one of the best QBs in the NFL. Bill Belichick never had a viable QB in Cleveland. When it appeared the Browns were about to turn the corner they announced they were moving to Baltimore. In New England Bill Belichick had the greatest QB of all time. I wouldn’t be mentioning those two coaches with Dan Quinn. He had a very solid QB when he arrived in Atlanta and he only had 2 winning seasons with him. His teams blew some huge leads. Andy Reid and Bill Belichick’s teams never blew those kind of leads.

It was laughable some of the leads Quinn’s teams were blowing. How a team can blow a 25 point second half lead in a Super Bowl is beyond me. Trust me if the Cowboys defense takes even a small step back this season no one will want Quinn as the head coach. His defense got punched in the mouth by San Francisco in the playoffs. Everyone here was onto Kellen Moore being the next head coach a couple of years ago and now none of the fans want him.

I just do not agree KJJ ..... Quinn did a lot of good things as head coach as well.
But that's fine ...... Its not gonna really matter anyway with this ownership

It’s not like he’s going to have much control over drafting or anything else with the Cowboys. He’ll just end up another Jerry Jones puppet. He had a very solid QB and some solid offensive weapons with the Falcons and he had only 2 winning seasons.

He did some good things but you judge head coaches on their record and his wasn’t very good which is why he got fired. Jason Garrett did some good things while he was here if you want to go that route. I agree with you that the head coach isn’t going to matter with this ownership. We see the same problems under every head coach because of the Joneses.

Please no. He's no different than Mike. If anything, Mike is better considering he had to put up with Aaron.

Are you talking about Connor Payton (Sean's son)? That has to be who you're referring to. I would assume you are too intelligent to think it could be Sean.... But who am I to assume...

Payton's contract is through 2024 with the Saints (I think, could be wrong) so if he's going to coach again, 2024 seems more likely unless a team wants to trade draft compensation for him in 2023.

Between McC and Payton, I will take McC every time. He got fired, didn't walk off on his team, and they both have the same number of rings.
