Well, "overpaid" is kind of relative to what someone is willing to pay you. What should the guy who takes the entire NFL fanbase's rage be paid when the real decision makers are bringing in all the billions of dollars?

"Pawn", absolutely. That word is likely in the job description.

Goodell doesn't control the NFL the way most people seem to think he does. The owners do, and they're just fine with letting him be the puppet as they pull the strings.

It's honestly shocking how many people haven't figured out that it's actually 32 billionaires (or multi-hundred-millionaires) that make all the decisions, and Goodell is paid to more-or-less announce them.

Do I like the guy? No. Do I hate the guy? No. I'm entirely indifferent because I know he isn't the one changing the rules (Competition Committee), setting the salary cap (Ownership vs. NFLPA), or making the marketing decisions that have made the game a giant commercial (Ownership & NFLPA). As far as I can tell, he can only issue punishment, but that is also a job given to him by the other 32 geezers behind the curtain.

His only real job is to provide some semblance of neutrality and announce things. His most stressful task is probably getting the players' names right on draft night.

Goodell should have fired for trying to bury the concussion issue. Jerry does plenty wrong, but he was right to want to get rid of the snake in charge.

At the end of the day the NFL is as big as it’s ever been financially and popularity wise. Both those things mean Goodell’s job is super secure.

Ever wonder how the players union (that is supposed to look out for the PLAYERS), didn't demand his termination?
