PFT: Parsons wants Daron Payne on the Cowboys

I wouldn’t be mad if they even went the Dalvin Tomlinson/A’Shawn Robinson route & brought back Hankins.

Shid...he'd be lucky to get Hankins. Daron Payne at close to $20M haha.

This when I like key players being vocal. Who also know Payne will get more attention which will give parsons less bodies on him. Either way, if parsons still gets the same attention, Payne will cause some havoc. We need this

Micah Parsons wants Daron Payne on the Cowboys

Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons, one of our favorite in-person player-guests, joined PFT Live from Radio Row in Phoenix for a wide-ranging discussion about football generally — and about his team specifically.

When the time came to ask Parsons what he’d like to see the team do to improve in 2023, he didn’t hesitate.

Parsons wants Washington defensive tackle Daron Payne in Dallas. (In the attached photo, Parsons is perhaps making his case directly to Payne.)

Payne is due to be a free agent in March. And it’s unlikely that he’ll be available, given that the Commanders can use the franchise tag to hold him in place, if they don’t work out a long-term deal.
that would be nice

It's odd that the players who favor certain additions don't take the Cowboys cap situation into consideration. They should want what's best for their team. The Cowboys can ill afford to make their cap overspending any worse than it already is. I'm sure the Dallas FO is 100% aware of that. Micah Parsons and Trevon Diggs are like kids at a candy store who want what's best for themselves.

The problem is that they can franchise tag him.

Hopefully, they can make it happen. I'd like to see it too. It would be a good idea to do that and cut Zeke and work some magic in the draft and resign the right players.
So, what could a new contract for Payne look like this offseason? Using Spotrac’s calculated market value, Payne is projected to earn a contract with an AAV [average annual value] of $19.4 million. Overall, the projection has him earning a five-year contract worth $97.5 million.

With Washington planning on starting second-year passer Sam Howell at quarterback, the Commanders will have more money to use at other positions, including re-signing Payne. While the Commanders have reached out to Payne’s representatives, official contract talks haven’t begun, according to John Keim of ESPN.

If the Commanders and Payne can’t agree to a new contract over the next month, the franchise tag looks like a likely outcome for this situation in 2023. Payne would earn over $18 million on the one-year franchise tag next season if the two sides can’t reach a long-term agreement.

Not happening!

It’s getting tiring watching our players lobbying for players on other teams.

I do too

Daron Payne is someone who can wreck a game without registering one tackle or one stat from the DT position and would instantly make our defense complete

yes complete because once you have a dominate force upfront at the DT position everything else falls in line
I know someone else on this team who wreck a game without registering one tackle either!!!!!!! (#4)

If WAS doesn't re-sign him, DAL will not pay his price.

And why would WAS let him walk when they play in the run division of the NFL?
Oh you'll hear after he signs his deal that the Cowboys PUT IN AN OFFER, while being asked beforehand it's the usual "we like our guys, he's a great player!" lol
