This is why you trade Diggs for a 1 and 3 asap so we dont have to pay this tissue paper 22 million per year to miss tackles

Sign Payne for 20 million per year

Now we have a better player for the less money, didn’t pay the tissue paper and have a premium pick to replace him

That’s what a good GM would do but I doubt we will
I understand the reasons to trade Diggs but if we didn’t overpay others we could afford to resign him.

it’s the lack of quality depth at the CB position that makes this decision not cut and dry

He would be my #1 fa target, but don't think the Cowboys are going to get into a bidding war to sign him.
Probably true but if they wanted to, I'm guessing the money is among Zeke, Dak and Shultz contracts.....

But what is he bringing that Hankins can't for cheaper service

Draft is deep at CB
Sign a mid priced in FA CB
Take CB in rds 1 or 2 since we’re getting a pick in my scenario

Micah Parsons wants Daron Payne on the Cowboys

Posted by Mike Florio on February 11, 2023, 11:42 AM EST

Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons, one of our favorite in-person player-guests, joined PFT Live from Radio Row in Phoenix for a wide-ranging discussion about football generally — and about his team specifically.

When the time came to ask Parsons what he’d like to see the team do to improve in 2023, he didn’t hesitate.

Parsons wants Washington defensive tackle Daron Payne in Dallas. (In the attached photo, Parsons is perhaps making his case directly to Payne.)

Payne is due to be a free agent in March. And it’s unlikely that he’ll be available, given that the Commanders can use the franchise tag to hold him in place, if they don’t work out a long-term deal.
Does he realize signing him means we’d probably lose Diggs unles we cut Tyron?

Keep in eye on A’Shawn Robinson from the Rams, excellent run defender who will be cheap to sign compared to a player like Payne

Von Miller, OBJ, Payne. Micah is gonna have to learn that "we like the guys we have" but maybe he can convince Jerry and Stephen to spend on FAs again

Even if he did become a FA I just don't see the financials working out in the Cowboys favor. Another team will swoop in and offer a deal completely out of range for this teams cap experts. Commanders will use the tag here anyway..
Maybe. But maybe Payne wants to play on a team that actually makes the playoffs and it limits the search for him a bit.

Either way I’d like to see prominent players continue to apply pressure on the front office to add talent to this team. It may not lead to results but I much prefer them to be outspoken and letting it be known status quo is not good enough.

Another scenario that won't happen.

Like the Diggs brothers playing together.

I do too

Daron Payne is someone who can wreck a game without registering one tackle or one stat from the DT position and would instantly make our defense complete

yes complete because once you have a dominate force upfront at the DT position everything else falls in line
Wait, hold up this cat is going to get a Brinks truck backed up to his door, the fans here would have an absolute coronary the say he has an empty stat sheet. Majority of the fans here account dollars to stats, they are like OCD bean counters, someone has to do something that is tangible like a tackle or a sack or whatever the minute he does not the OVERPAID police will flood the forums.

I wouldn't. I know the purpose of a NT. If he can help the rest of fhe team by clogging the middle and shutting down there run, then he's done his job.

What am I getting for $18-19M vs 3-5M with Hankins? I mean we don't need sacks from the position as much as run stoppers and keeping Lbers clean.
Hankins clogs up the middle
Payne clogs up the middle AND collapses the pocket and disrupts the run game and puts pressure on the QB and allows DEs to be more effective
Payne is way better than Hankins
I want both

Payne
Hankins
Osa

Now you have a DT rotation
