Payne is the type of player you make the financials work for. This is what the Jones don't seem to understand. Guys like Payne, Smith and Reader are just better than everyone else. That makes a difference and significantly improves your defense on Sundays

making him our GM would definitely improve things…..but of course he’d put Rayne out to pasture ASAP
I was just about to say, if only he were the gm ! lol cowboys might be scary good.
But we have Jerry so forget all that.

Wash probably will tag the guy, especially if they think he would go to dallas. But what if they dont?
Also this is where a good GM might try to work out a trade for him, with picks or players or both.

Offer shultz and zeke and some picks?

You mean like the Eagles signed Suh and Joseph?

I'm not sure Jerry even noticed that happened.

Imagine if we had even a decent game manager QB on a rookie deal and we could sign Payne. This team would really be onto something.

Micah Parsons wants Daron Payne on the Cowboys

Posted by Mike Florio on February 11, 2023, 11:42 AM EST

Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons, one of our favorite in-person player-guests, joined PFT Live from Radio Row in Phoenix for a wide-ranging discussion about football generally — and about his team specifically.

When the time came to ask Parsons what he’d like to see the team do to improve in 2023, he didn’t hesitate.

Parsons wants Washington defensive tackle Daron Payne in Dallas. (In the attached photo, Parsons is perhaps making his case directly to Payne.)

Payne is due to be a free agent in March. And it’s unlikely that he’ll be available, given that the Commanders can use the franchise tag to hold him in place, if they don’t work out a long-term deal.
Glad this agrees with my free agent plan

Actually, the Commanders may have some reservations about pumping X amount of money into the DT position. Remember they recently extended Jonathan Allen $72M. Didn't he and Payne have a little side scuffle last year? Extending Payne at market value would mean they are paying BOTH their DTs close to $20M per year ....don't see that happening.
BTW......recently read they are NOT sure about offering Chase Young 5th year option.

Jerry called Parsons and said, "I got one word for you, Gallimore"! Then promptly hung up. Stephen could be heard in the background say, "we like our guys diddy"!

Yes. It’s tiring watching our FO sign nobody
We sign people just no one that’s any good. We let go of better players than we signed last offseason.

Even if he did become a FA I just don't see the financials working out in the Cowboys favor. Another team will swoop in and offer a deal completely out of range for this teams cap experts. Commanders will use the tag here anyway..
This is why you trade Diggs for a 1 and 3 asap so we dont have to pay this tissue paper 22 million per year to miss tackles

Sign Payne for 20 million per year

Now we have a better player for the less money, didn’t pay the tissue paper and have a premium pick to replace him

That’s what a good GM would do but I doubt we will

He would be my #1 fa target, but don't think the Cowboys are going to get into a bidding war to sign him.

Sorry, I meant Chris Jones, not Smith. Yikes!

This team can afford any free agent it wants. The salary cap and contracts are mailable.

It's our well-meaning doofus of an owner that won't do what it takes to improve the team.

Not sure how we can sign someone like this. He is projecting 5 years 20 million type of contract. We have to pay Diggs, CeeDee, Parsons, and probably someone else I am missing all in the next two years. We would need a real GM to figure out how to manipulate the cap enough to sign him.

I have to say what a spit in the face of your teammates to like actively be saying we need players. Kind of foul.
