GODFREY BLASTS BELICHICK

Tom Curran of NBCSports.com reports that Commanders linebacker Randall Godfrey is upset with the manner in which the Patriots continued to pour it on while comfortably ahead of the Commanders on Sunday.

"I said something to [Belichick] after the game," Godfrey told Curran. "I told him, 'You need to show some respect for the game.' You just don't do that. I don't care how bad it is. You're up 35 and you're still throwing deep? That's no respect.

"You look at all the great head coaches . . . I'm just disappointed," he said. "You gotta show some class, show some respect. Joe Gibbs? We wouldn't have done that. Bill Walsh? You wouldn't see those types of guys doing that stuff. I've never seen nothing like that. Most teams, you get up like that you sit on the ball and try to run the time out. They're up 30-some points and they're throwing deep. That was blatant disrespect. I hope we can see them again, definitely. You don't see Joe Gibbs doing that. You can't even imagine that kind of stuff coming from him. Joe Gibbs. Bill Walsh. Bill Parcells. This isn't like college going for power rankings. This is the pros you show some respect, show some class."

But Belichick made no excuses for his team's reputation for pouring it on in a Friday interview with Curran.

"I've been coaching too long," Belichick said. "I remember being on that side. When I was coaching defense it was my job to keep the score down, not theirs. When you're playing defense it's your job to stop them. It's not [the offense's] job to not score. It's like I tell the offense, what the [bleep] do you think I send you guys out there for? To punt? We have a punt team for that. That's not your job. Your job is to go out there and score points. If you come off the field and you haven't scored points you haven't done your job."

We still think there's a line, somewhere. And though we don't know precisely where it is, we think it was crossed on Sunday.

But Belichick made no excuses for his team's reputation for pouring it on in a Friday interview with Curran.

Belichick is absolutely right. If you don't want a team to run up the score on you then stop them from scoring, it's that simple.

If you simply can't get it done then take your beating like the wimps you are and move on.

I've been on both sides of a serious beating in sports and you just deal with it and move on. Whining about it won't help in the least. Coming out next time determined to stomp someone is the only thing you can do about it.

I do think BB needs to be careful. One coach/player may not like what's going on and take matters into their own hands.....I can see someone diving at Brady's knees.

You hate to see stuff like that, but just as running up the score happens, so does dirty retaliation.

Personally, I really hope we meet Brady and Co again. That means we're in the SB. I would like nothing better than to beat an 18-0 team in the SB.

It's very dangerous to not play your hardest. If you have a team that's losing and busting their behind, and a winning team that's loafing, someone's probably going to get hurt.

Listening on the radio, when I heard they were going for it on 4th and 1 at Washington 15 or so up 37-0 with 9 minutes left instead of kicking the field goal...thats as bad as it gets...pathetic on belichecks part really. no respect for the other team at all...the Commanders were beat...kick the field goal...belicheck has his coming...it would have been wonderful to see brady knocked out for the season or something on the next play all becuase belicheck is a scum bag. I am sick of the cheating, lying, manipulative, scumbag egomaniac...in a perfect world he would be the one out with a season ending injury...

I guarantee you big bad Bill would have benched everyone and went to kneeling the ball if the Skins put their scrubs in and did the same.

Bellichik is dead wrong on this. Godfrey is right. I hate the skins to the nth degree, but you have to show some respect. Bellicik has an agenda with the NFL. Hey Bill, don't mess with the NFL. The NFL can always call out their Steeler/Seahawk super bowl referees. After the Pats performance today vs the skins, I wouldn't be surprised to see every call go Indy's way next week. You know, sort of like how mysteriously every call went against the Cowboys. I think the refs might be looking real close at the Pats Offensive line. You can find holding on every play in the NFL (if you look closely enough, wink, wink).

yeah or maybe they knew they were beat and were just trying to get a touchdown on the board and make it look respectable....

there is a big difference between running up the score and slapping your opponent in the face with his own jock. Going for the touchdown on 4th down when your up by 5 scores already with 9 minutes left to play...thats not running up the score...thats being an *******

My older brother was always saying, "No lead is safe" when we played a sport. We lost a number of games after having big leads because we took it easy on them but one memorable game where we came back deserves to be brought up...

My two brothers, my sister, and myself played in a 4-person co-ed volleyball league in SoCal back in the 80s. We went undefeated for 3 years straight and no one could beat us no matter how many ringers they brought in. In our final season together (my sister and I both got injured after the season and never played in a league like that again) we were playing in the final game of the tournament and were down 13-1 in a game to 15. This was against a team specifically built to beat us and it looked like they would. My brother called a timeout and said his usual line, "No lead is safe". We went on to beat them 17-15 and won the championship yet again!

Since that day, I have run up the score every chance I get in any sport I play. I don't care what people think about me but I am never going to lose a game like that by letting up on a team like those guys did. They thought they had the game in the bag and started to take it easy on us... until the score was 14-10, then they started to fall apart, yelling at each other and blowing easy plays.

I have no problem with a team running up the score because I will if I get the chance and I don't give a damn what anyone thinks about it. I am NEVER going to lose a game like those guys did!
