'SKINS MAKING A PLAY FOR BRIGGS?

Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that the Commanders and Bears are contemplating a trade that would send the No. 6 overall pick to Chicago for linebacker Lance Briggs and the No. 31 overall pick in the draft.

But didn't the 'Skins learn last year the folly of trying to force a Tampa 2 specialist into Gregg Williams' defense? Though we can't fault Adam Archuleta (one of our sponsors) for taking $10 million guaranteed, the Commanders should have considered more carefully the question of whether the player would fit within the system.

Briggs' success possibly is a product of his role as the weakside linebacker in the Tampa 2 defense, which gives him a lot of freedom to roam in open space and make tackles. As the "will" in a traditional 4-3, will he be as effective?

It's a big risk for the Commanders to take, in our view. But we have a feeling that owner Dan Snyder (who has been uncharacteristically quiet in free agency) is itching to make a big deal, especially at a time when he's rubbing elbows with his 31 partners/competitors at the NFL's 2007 Annual Meeting.

The will position shouldn't change too terribly a lot between the two schemes.

That being said, idk if an OLB is worth the 6th pick in the draft, unless he is a pass-rush specialist.

Let them have Briggs, they'll ruin him like every other major free agent they've acquired in the Snyder era.

Briggs to Washington is something I wouldn't look forward to, he's a machine out there on the field...

Where the HELL do they keep getting all this money?

Does Danny Boy have some incrominating photos of Roger Godell or something?

Jay Glazer just reported this on 670 the Score in Chicago. This rumor definetly has merit.

they are going to give up the 6th pick in the draft for the guy? Are you kidding me.

Gibbs is the most stubborn coach I have ever seen when it comes to young players.

I would imagine they will make this move and then try and trade out of 31 to add a third? That 31 pick doesnt have that much power.

good grief. Why would anyone make this trade.

Will there be two adrian petersons on the bears if this trade is made?

this trade really is confusing to say the least. I mean what the heck was the point of trading up for Rocky? I hope we dont do this.

I hate the Commanders as much as anyone, but someone slap the adult diapers on Gibbs and put him in the home before he embarasses himself any further. It's depressing.

They only traded two second round picks for McIntosh becaue they liked his Wonderlic score.

I hope they pull it off. I would much rather have them do that then trade down and gain more picks and then draft Willis or Posluzney.

Chicago will not give them Briggs and pick#31. Maybe their 2nd or 3rd.

I'm gonna laugh if the 'Skins do this.

One OLB (who was protected by Ogunleye and Urlacher) will not change their defense. They could use that 6th pick to get an effective pass rusher, like a Gaines Adams who could possibly change their defense.

Hell, what am I saying ... DO IT Commanders! Absolute steal for Danny Boy. ;)

Exactly what I was thinking.

I pray that the Skins are foolish enough to go ahead with it.

the reason the Skins might be doing this is because they rely on their LBs for their pass-rush, they like their DEs to act like DTs

Gibbs seriously needs to can Greg Williams...but it's too bad Williams is Danny's lackey and is getting paid alot of money

Good Gawd but that'll be stupid of the Skins.

I mean, three stooges dumb. Really, really dumb.

The sixth pick for a 4-3 outside linebacker? Oh that's rich!

Please do it Snyder! :lmao2:

I like Briggs, but #6 overall good? Don't know about that.

To me, Briggs would be around 5th or 6th player on that defense. The weakside LB in the Tampa Defense has no responsibilities other than run free to the football. There's no reason why anyone shouldn't look good in that position, but Briggs was never a difference maker like Derrick Brooks was.
