As league insiders try to divine the identity of the Cowboys player who supposedly was the subject of recent trade talks, the early speculation focuses on tight end Martellus Bennett.

At first, the speculation centered on Bennett and cornerback Orlando Scandrick. But, currently, the signs are pointing to Bennett.

Bennett was a second-round pick in 2008. He's stuck on the depth chart behind veteran Jason Witten.

Earlier today, owner Jerry Jones disclosed that he received a trade offer for one of the team's young players, but that Jones declined to do the deal. Jones said that the offer was not made for one of the team's three talented tailbacks.

I don't see why the trade would have involved Bennett, no one can accurately gauge what type of player he is or will be, just doesn't seem right to me.

I hope that whatever team wanted him tried to lowball on the deal.

If someone would have given equal value, 2nd rounder or higher, this team should have took it and ran.

What's the point in keeping a player around if you aren't going to find a way to use him.

Doesn't know the playbook my ***. He knew it well enough in the preseason and in training camp to get a world of hype, now all of sudden he doesn't have a clue what is going on?

Good move by Jerry to not trade Bennett. Bennett is so under-rated in the running game and has unique skills that if we trade him now we will regret it later. Just because he's not getting X amount of balls his way doesn't mean he's not making a difference in the run game. He's just as good as blocking guys like Deon Anderson is.

For once I agree w/ Jerry.

La Canafora is reporting the Packers were desperately trying to upgrade their running game, hard to believe they didn't call Jerry and make an offer of some type for one of our backs.....

could be and that is not a bad thought process. The media is a great tool to motivate players.

He has said he expects more from bennett leading into the last two games on his radio show.

Its not that far fetched.

can you imagine the reaction to something like that!!!!!

I don't even want to imagine it. From either the for or against it sides the reaction would be insane.

What does that mean?
Bill Jones just speculated that Bengals probably wanted Martellus.

Martellus reponse was "Ha."

That's what it looked like but thought maybe there would be more than "ha".

It means martyb can see blitzes with his third eye.

Definitely an ability worth keeping around.

This is why we did the right thing in keeping him. He's valuable to the run and pass game, but in the pass game it's just not the way we assume he'd be used.
