PFT: Trade talk speculation focuses on Martellus Bennett...(Bengals wanted him)

Bennett is already a plus blocker and he has off the charts athleticism.

He hasn't put it all together yet but he's exactly the kind of guy you'd like to trade for before his value balloons.

He's also still cheap.
Absolutely. As frustrated as I am about his inability to break out yet, unless the offer was greater than what we spent to acquire him, then there was no reason to deal. A first round choice would have been a simple decision, but I doubt it was that high.

That said, if the season concludes with Bennett still unable to make even as much impact as he made at times in his rookie season, I would make a move if the Bengals are still interested. This might be the pinnacle of his value point if he remains a tease.

Bennett has been open plenty this season, he's just usually the last read and Romo never gets there, has the time to get there, or the need to get there.

I was surprised to hear they'd never practiced the endzone fade to Bennett, that's kind of silly.

Report: Bengals wanted Cowboys' Bennett
October 22, 2009 9:59 AM
Posted by ESPN.com's Matt Mosley

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones told reporters Wednesday that a team made a significant offer at the trade deadline for a "key player" on his roster, but he didn't reveal the player's name. ESPN's Chris Mortensen is now reporting that the player was second-year tight end Martellus Bennett.

Bennett has gotten off to a slow start this season after having an excellent training camp and preseason. At 6-6, he's a huge target and he's one of the most athletic players on the team. Jones indicated the Cowboys could have landed a premium draft pick for Bennett, but he chose to stick with the player.

Perhaps the Bengals' strong interest in Bennett will cause the Cowboys to actually throw to him occasionally. Bennett joked Wednesday that he's "the most popular four-catch player in the league." He was referring to a recent front page story in the Dallas Morning News that dealt with his prolific Twitter habits and fledgling rap career. Bennett has emerged as one of the most entertaining personalities on the team, but he hasn't been one of Tony Romo's favorite targets.

However, I'm told that he's been excellent in the running game. Bennett's already considered a highly effective blocker in his second season. I'm sure the Bengals felt like he could immediately be a front-line tight end for them -- and I believe that he would've been a tremendous complement to Chad Ocho Cinco. As long as Jason Witten's in Dallas, Bennett will continue to play second fiddle.

Packers LB A.J. Hawk only played nine snaps against the Lions last week.
He's healthy, but no longer plays at all on passing downs. When opponents are trailing Green Bay, Hawk is simply a role player and is clearly less of an IDP factor than ever. He's sixth on the Packers in tackles with 23, 18 solo.

Marty B has first round talent.... Too bad he has UDFA talent that can't throw him the ball.

Good job not letting him go for a 2nd Jerry. Best decision tp date byu you all year.

UDFA talent is a guy who's thrown 87 TDs in 3+ years as a starter?

If that's the case, I'd rather have UDFA talent like that than 1st round talent like Tim Couch, Akili Smith, Ryan Leaf, etc.

And Brady Quinn.

It doesn't take long to stop judging players one when they were or weren't drafted and what they actually do. Romo was not drafted, but has been to pro-bowls. Currently he is not playing up to the standard he has set. There are plenty of 1st round picks in the league that never came close to living up to their draft status and plenty of lower round draftees that have exceeded their draft status.

I would take a 2nd for Bennett.. the guy is a backup and just hasn't been a factor.

That standard is being set right now.

He should be judged off of a season without a HOF WR to throw too.

No more masking his defeciences with the scapegoat.

Going to the Bengals...haha that's funny. In my Bengals franchise in Madden I traded a 2nd and 4th to get him.

He was my 2nd leading receiver that year haha

Who is the "now impact" player that Dallas was offered in the Trade for Bennett?

Ocho Cinco?

Maybe one of their corners?

Jonathan Joseph is a baller.

Romo is sitting middle of the league right now graded against NFL starters....
He has also faced the top 2 pass defenses in the NFL to date.
He has face 1, 2, 7, 11 in the 5 games he has played. He has not yet faced a defense that is ranked in the bottom 7.

SO... he grades right now as average against far above average pass defenses.

Let's see where he ranks after the next two weeks as he faces pass defenses both ranked below 15.

Okay the standard should be set now, which has nothing to do with him being an UDFA. See the point. Other guys who were drafted have struggled with that HOF WR to throw to on their teams. Drew Bledsoe, Brad Johnson and now Trent Edwards did very little with TO as their WR.

Just think if he had a great 1st round QB like Brady Quinn throwing him the ball. Hahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

Stop it you're killing me! Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahaahahah.

Supposedly we had our choice of a pick or player, and Jerry mentioned it was a player who could help us now.

So if it was Bennett and the Bengals, I wonder which Bengals player it was who could help us now?

Joseph?

I would do that trade.
