I would've definitely taken a high 1st for Bennet, and most likely a low first as well.

He could be great or he could wash out. I just think a first rounder would worth more than his potential

So...you're the only one who's a mind reader? Wade and Jerry must have forgotten to wear their tinfoil hats.

Doesn't take a psychic to see it.

Just take a look at the difference between Fasano and Bennett and its pretty clear.

If Cinci wants to make this deal now then they might be willing to make it in the off season as well. I think it was smart to keep Bennett. Imagine the outrage if we traded Bennett and then Witten was injuried and missed significant time?

If you want to deal Bennett for a premium pick do it in the off season when you'll have time to properly backup Witten.

Mort: Bengals wanted Martellus Bennett

Posted by Mike Florio on October 22, 2009 9:51 AM ET

ESPN's Chris Mortenson reports that the Cincinnati Bengals are the team who was interested in swinging a trade with the Dallas Cowboys and that, as we had been hearing, the target was tight end Martellus Bennett.

It makes sense -- the Bengals have been struggling at the tight end position, due to a rash of injuries that began during training camp, when Reggie Kelly torn an Achilles' tendon and Ben Utecht suffered a serious concussion.

Still, the Cowboys said no. Despite the presence of Jason Witten, Bennett gets plenty of playing time when the Cowboys use two tight ends.

Very tempted? You'd have to be cazy not to jump on that. You really think anyone outside of crazy Al would offer a 1 for Marty B? Dude's not worth a 3 at this point.

OBVIOUSLY, you're wrong about that.

That's why we drafted Phillips. ;)

Martellus Bennett feels loved

Todd Archer/Reporter Bio | E-mail | News tips

If you check out his Twitter page (@jupiterscrunch), Martellus Bennett feels loved now that he knows the Cowboys turned down a trade opportunity from Cincinnati for him.

Bennett Tweeted: "Ha the bengals tried to trade for me?ochocinco Marty b woulda been a ruckus. I love being a cowboy tho this is home I love this team."
ESPN's Chris Mortensen cited a source saying the Bengals called to see if Bennett was available as part of the significant offer owner and general manager Jerry Jones talked about on Wednesday.

From a Bengals' perspective it makes sense because they lost Reggie Kelly and Ben Utecht to injuries during training camp and starter Daniel Coats has shown he has a hard time catching passes.

But from a Cowboys' perspective it made no sense to do this deal.

Yes, Bennett has not put up the numbers many thought he would so far (four catches, 40 yards, no TDs) but he is an integral part of the running game. The '12' package is a big part of the offense and without Bennett the Cowboys would be hamstrung because rookie third-stringer John Phillips could not do the things Bennett does.

And so it remains that Cincinnati is the only team Jones has not made a trade with in his 21 years.

I see sarcasm has passed over you twice in this thread. A little paint sniffing may help you catch it in the future. :p:

I don't see why the trade would have involved Bennett, no one can accurately gauge what type of player he is or will be, just doesn't seem right to me.

Bennett is already a plus blocker and he has off the charts athleticism.

He hasn't put it all together yet but he's exactly the kind of guy you'd like to trade for before his value balloons.

He's also still cheap.

Thank Gawd we didn't trade Bennett, not that Jerry ever seriously considered it. He's the kind of talent who can help us beat the better teams like the Giants and Eagles later in the year.

Actually, no. That makes no sense whatsoever. Nobody trades their #1 WR and a draft pick to get someone else's #2 TE. No, not even the Bengals.
