PFW: 10 free agents to watch

Normally I would agree ..... but this is alot like what happened with Deion Sanders in 95

Getting him would not only make us stronger but weaken our main competition.

And we have lost a really good player who plays the same position.

That would be something.

Im good with Canty Ferguson Ratliff with Tank Hatcher and Spears rotating.

Dline is not out problem especially with Big Ferg coming back. We need secondary help, youth at WR, depth for the interior Oline, possibly a RB/OLT and to take care of our own FA. Newman isnt going to be a FA until the following year but we need to lock him up and we have tough decisions to make concerning Flo and Julius.

Dline, LB, FB, and TE are at the bottom of my priorities.

I wouldn't be shocked if Ferguson wasn't on the team next year due to his age, injury problems and large contract.

Ferg's salary isn't going to cost that much against the cap next year, his contract was structured so that he would receive most of that money in the 1st 3 years, I think he was supposed to get something like 21 or 28 mil in the 1st 3 years of his deal

he'll be back

It's a possibility. But we'd only save about $2.5 million if we cut him. If there's a free agent out there that Wade/Jeff/Jerry absolutely covet, they might let him go. I don't know of any sure-fire free agents, though. If not, then it'd be pretty stupid to cut him.

keep dreaming is all I gotta say, he'll most likely be franchised anyways

don't forget we're dealing w/ stubborn mumbles over there

Why would we need a FA NT?

I'm thinking Tank and Ratliff will be our NT next season.

As well as Ferguson has played why would want to basically bench Ratliff? I mean you aren't going to bench Spears or Canty for Ratliff (as much as I'd like to see Spears benched :)).

And are you going to pay Ferguson $4 mill to ride the bench? I don't think so.

An in shape "Tank" is also better than Ferguson.

you know Ratliff can pay DE right? he'll probably beat out Canty

#1. He didn't beat him out this year.

#2. Canty has played well.

Ratliff is better than Canty, he's a better run-defender, and much better pass-rusher, Wade indicated that Ratliff was well on his way to winning a DE spot, I don't know if it was Canty's or Spears', probably Spears', but they needed depth at NT

either way, Ratliff would beat out Canty and/or Spears

That's not exactly what Wade said...

With Ellis playing more 3-4 DE and Tank here-- Ferguson has become expendable. Especially at his age and salary.

Fergy got 13.5 million of his 21.5 million in the first 3 years(05-06-07) so he's still due 8 million over the next 2 years. Not sure how it is structured. Henry's deal was 18 million over the same period with his total contract for 25 million. So henry is only due 7 mill in the next 2 years. I agree with you that if Fergy's hit is in the 4 million range he might have to restructure. Henry is safe IMO at that price tag. But hey, the NT in the 3-4 is critical so maybe Fergy is very safe in Jerry's eyes?

your best NT is never expendable

Ferg at NT, Ratliff at one of the end spots, and whoever proves to be the better out of Spears and Canty at the other, that's a heck of a starting 3-4 line

I haven't listend to or read Wade's PC's this week. He actually said Fery is expendable?

He isn't so safe after the way Ratliff has played. And you through a more talented Tank in there and Ferguson's days as a Cowboy are probably numbered unless he renegotiates.

Spears
Canty
Ratliff
Hatcher
Tank
Bowen

Plus Ellis is playing some DE. Ware can play some DE. Spencer can play some DE.

At this point there is no room for a 34 yo, coming off of major injury, high-priced NT, who's not better than Ratliff and probably not better than Tank.

Ferg's salary isn't astronomical, it's pretty fair actually, you keep those guys, esp. if they're as good as Ferg

No!!!!

I was referring to what Wade said about Ratliff.

Ratliff is not better than Ferg, he wouldn't be starting if Ferg wasn't injured

He's not that good.

And he'll be that much older come next season.

My God, Joe Fans don't think these guys (30 some year-old football players) will ever wear out.
