I'd bet Costa can bench a lot of weight. Short stocky guy. They're the best bench pressers.

Plus I think his dad is a body-builder.

That vertical jump is excellent.

All of his work out numbers were good. In the end it is all about producing on the field which is why I tend not to put as much on workout numbers as I do actual play.

Having said that I also know Costa is a young player. Last year was his 2nd in the NFL, he played some in his rookie year but it was at G not center. Clearly his overall play last year was unacceptable but I think it is a bit premature to rule him as incapable of doing the job. I fully expect the Cowboys to have Costa compete for the job but would not rule him out

In addition to their Cowboys ties, Phil and Randy are both former Maryland Terrapins. I'm sure they have a lot to talk about.

I had forgotten that.

Costa had some struggles in his second year. GIVE THE GUY A FREAKING BREAK! The guy works his tail off non-stop. He's smart and since he got here he's taken every opportunity to learn as much as he can about how to get better. Talked Ratliffe's ear off and worked on every scrap of info he could get to improve. Now he's got the ear of a hall of famer to pick up minute details to get better. He's got one of the best technical Offensive Line minds with Callahan and the Cowboys signed a couple of massive guards to work beside him. Give him a chance. It's this kind of commitment in a player that we need.

I for one am very interested to see what happens in training camp. Effort and work ethic counts for a great deal at that position.

And hell, if Randy White thinks enough of him to spend time working with him, then I challenge any dissenter on this board to walk up to the Manster and tell him he's an idiot for wasting his time.

Come on!! Any takers?

Pretty much what I said. I think Costa is a young player who had a rough year. I don't expect him to be handed the job I expect him to compete and I have no issue if he wins the job which I think he has a chance to do. In the end I want the guy who shows the most to be the starting Center. I don't have a pet cat in this and I have no dog house. I expect guys to go out work hard, compete and who ever wins the job to go out and produce.

I was hard on him last year, but I'm actually pulling for the guy. There is no question about his effort, work ethic and desire to get better. I want to see/read about a good competition during TC, but if he wins the job, more power to him. I was impressed with Killer in the limited time he got so the competition should be interesting.

Oh I know we're on the same page. My derision is aimed at those who think it's a joke to even give Costa a second look.

Some fans get impatient and do not forget or forgive. We see it in Mike Jenkins, he played poorly in 2010 and had that non tackle and in some people eyes that says it all about his career. Yet 2011 he showed better play and toughness playing through injuries. I have no problem saying if last year was the best Costa has to offer then that is not good enough but when talking a young player I give them the chance to prove themselves to come back from a rough year.

I like that he is doing this, but I'll be more impressed when he is working out with Mark Stepnoski.

Its easier for a back up to play behind a starter because the level of expectation is usually lower. If you are back-up you will do everything you can even mess up to make an impression. Killer was a backup so our expectations for him were lower so if he does something "remarkable" it stands out as much as when a starter does something badly

I think it is a joke to let him try again. He was horrendous and his supposed 'improvement' got him to maybe a couple of steps below mediocre.

His short arms and slow feet cannot be changed. He will never be a quality starter.

i wouldn't classify stuffing Costa in his own locker "working" with him

Randy is still in beast mode for his age. I wonder if he has pancaked Costa yet.

Get a load of the non-roid guns on the Manster at 60.

Thought y'all might like this.....

we talked to Randy White this past weekend and he confirmed that he is currently working with Phil Costa a couple times a week. I think this could reap huge dividends. It's good to hear that Costa is at least doing all he can to improve. I love it when Legends work with current players. Charles Haley's been working with Ware for a few years now.

You know how lions try to pick off the weak members of the herd?

Appears the Manster does the same thing.

I think I read that in the mid 90s Charles Hailey was visiting Randy White's Restaurant. Hailey started getting belligerent, and he and Randy White "squared off." According to the book "Boys will be Boys" -- White basically decked (and knocked out) Hailey.

Randy White is a bad dude . . . .

I love the devotion our legends have to this team. Leon Lett and Charles Haley working with the pass rushers, Randy White tutoring Costa. Erik Williams working with the OL.

Cowboy pride. I love it.
